Came to israel with friends for a reunion and we stayed at the Leonardo because of its excellent proximity to town and the old city. Shira was very helpful reccomending where our party could go to celebrate. When we got back it was very late but they were helpful anyway even though there was much less staff on duty.

An older hotel in a great location- near Old City Mamilla & King George St. Elliott & Adi were very helpful. The breakfast was varied & delicious. You could as healthy or indulgent as you like. Lots of salads & an omlette station. My biggest disappointment was the inconvenience of not having free internet.

This hotel does not offer a 3/4 star relaxing experience. On the plus side, it is a good location, the room had a gorgeous view of the old city, the outdoor pool patio area is beautiful and the concierge gave us good local dinner referrals. Beyond these features, the vacation niceties end.

Unpleasant surprises include, an outdoor patio that attracts many stray cats and annoying big crows. Also, at poolside, there is no beverage service. Going inside doesn't help -- both the patio and indoor lounge service is too slow; only 1 person is on duty to take the orders, prepare the drinks, deliver the food and clear the tables. The lobby lounge is unkempt with used newspapers, used cotton swaps, crumbs and discarded food. It also smells awful -- like a mixture of vinegar and perfumed incense. I think it is piped in. The room is small and cleanliness is not a priority; our bathtub did not drain properly, the sink, toilet and floor areas had a sticky residue, and the counters a full of old glass rim stains. The hotel boasts a huge breakfast buffet spread but it is average fare at best and messy; the staff is not trained well to offer coffee service, setup or clean up promptly. You'll experience more of these issues if your stay includes a weekend as there is virtually no one staff on hand to help you. The staff that tried to help looked stressed and overworked. Overall, not a good value or experience.

Although the hotel is one of the tallest buildings in Jerusalem and has a nice pool....that's about it...

The lounge area is typically dirty...we saw a challah bread and used Q-tip on a couch...besides numerous tables with food scraps and half empty glasses. This is due to inadequate staffing which is mostly indifferent to guests. Except for one concierge, Adi, who checked on us daily.

The rooms are on the small side..and the bathrooms are slightly larger than phone booths...I had to duck my head in the shower...and although our room had a lovely view of the Old City...it was directly across the hall from a bomb shelter...which doubles as the room to iron clothing in....very comforting...

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the Old City

This hotel was a disaster to us. In a word, the "service" was horrible. We stayed for 4 nights and my problems with the hotel seemed to grow and grow with each day. We stayed at three different hotels in Israel and this was my only bad review. I say this for a number of reasons:
1. The service in the downstairs restaurant was horrendous. Although we did not have breakfast at the hotel, getting a pot of hot water for a cup of tea was a nightmare– with all of the servers they had it typically took 15 minutes to get a pot of hot water. Most of the waiters and waitresses seemed to ignore the guests and were rude. It seems that the service provided by the entire hotel was poor except for one concierge who was helpful. 2. The hotel seemed understaffed and the “attitude” of the employees seemed to be one that they didn't really care about their guests.
3. When we arrived at the hotel, we had to carry our luggage and had to wheel them in from the parking lot (located down a flight of stairs outside of the hotel). The bell boys didn’t even get out of their chairs in order to help us.
4. The hotel does not have a concierge on staff during the important times (8 - 11 am). The concierge did not arrive until 12pm. They claimed that the staff handling the registration and check-ins could also act as the concierge; but they were always so busy that they did not seem to be able to provide the time to go over itineraries with their guests.
5. There were papers strewn out on the ground on the lower level of the parking lot and it appeared that no one had cleaned the parking lot or been down there for several weeks.
6. To top off the lack of service, when I checked out, the hotel had inadvertently double-billed me and had not caught it (I had to catch the error). It took about 10 minutes for them to get a staff member to even handle the check-out process.
The bottom line is that It seems as if this hotel is only set up for tour groups and fairly orthodox Jews; but it sure didn't seem to cater to individual families.
I have never stayed at another Leonardo Hotel; but based upon this experience, I would not be inclined to stay at any Leonardo Hotel.
With all of that said, there are some positives to the hotel. The hotel is fairly well located within the downtown Jerusalem area and the actual rooms that we stayed in were well maintained. And oh yeah, the elevators were pretty cool. But, that's it.
