We chose this hotel for its very affordable price, especially compared to prices of other hotels in Jerusalem, regarldess of very contradictory reviews we had read about it. However, once we were there, we very happy with almost everything about the hotel - we had a superior suite (containing a very spacious living room with a small annexed kitchen with a electrical tea kettle, a bedroom,a bathroom and a balcony). The suite was furnished very nicely, the furniture was not as old as mentioned in some of the previous reviews. One morning we woke up to see many many small flies and ants coming out of a small hole in the bathroom, but it was taken care of quickly. When we came back to our room, there was nothing. Beds were extremely comfortable. Breakfast was good, offering a couple of types of juices, various local spreads, but also "common" butter and marmelade, vegetables, but no fruit at all (what came as a surprise especially after we saw such a variety of fresh fruit sold at the local markets) and no bread rools, only sliced bread from a plastic bag which had to be toasted. But even better than breakfast itself was the breakfast room - calm, cosy and extremely enjoyable. Some people took their breakfast in the lovely garden.
The location of the hotel is just perfect- it is only 10 minutes walk from the Damascus Gate (the Old City) and close to tram, bus and sherut stops.
The staff was very professional. I would mention Mahmoud in charge for the dinning room and breakfast who was taking care that coffee was hot all the time and that everything was there as needed by the guests, Ibrahim from the reception and another receptionist (wearing glasses) whose name I ddi not get, but who was especially helpful with various pieces of advice about getting around and whose English was just perfect.
WiFI was not working at all, at least not at my mobile phone (I also heard other guests complaining about the same thing), but there was a PC in the reception area with a free Internet access.
The room was cleaned every day, but rather carelessely I would say. One day we found a cleaning cloth on the table in the living room, left over and forgotten by the cleaning staff. The wash-basin was left completely uncleaned one morning with traces of make-up and everything.
All in all, I was very satisifed with the hotel and I would gladly recommend it to everyone.

The hotel is quite old-fashioned but good for a room-only fairly cheap hotel.
The breakfast was about the measliest I've ever experienced in Israel and a very average dinner is prepared for an exact time and an exact number of people. If you want to invite a guest for the extremely average meal, you have to inform the hotel hours in advance.
Overall the hotel is staffed by a desk manager and a part time waiter plus a part time cook. That's it. No coffee or tea available unless you buy in a supermarket, no wine or beer for dinner - the same.
Bear in mind that the hotel is situated in the Muslim quarter north of the Old City - quite a good location but there is nothing to do or nowhere to go at night. One bar exists a short walk away in the YMCA and another at the very exclusive 'American Colony Hotel'. The desk manager was courteous.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are suites, but cluttered with garish if somewhat '1001 nights' furniture...

Hotel Location: Main entrance Nablus Street, opposite American Colony Hotel (first luxury hotel in Jerusalem), near British Council and U.S. Embassy facilities, quite location, walking distance to Damaskus Gate (10 min easy walk). Good starting point for excursions to Jerusalem Old Town!

Hotel Atmospere: Oriental style lobby, friendly and relaxed Front Office staff. Nice and well organized breakfast next to the lobby with possibility to eat in the garden. Competent staff enables relaxed breakfast and a good start into the day.

Room: We stayed 4 days in a small suite, however the suite was quite large with one living room and one bedroom. Nice balcony with space for 2 chairs and a table to sit outside with view on the French "Tombeau des rois". Recommanded for sunset pictures.

Staff: Reception / Front Office & Dining Room were managed by friendly and helpful staff, ask for Mahmoud (Dining Room / Food & Beverage) or Ibrahim (Front Office)

Swimming Pool: Havent seen one.

Assessment: Good Hotel for the price compared to other rates in Jerusalem

by Gunnar (Germany / frequent traveller)

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the upper floors for better view. I also recommand the Junior Suite(s). Spacy f...

We choose Addar for our "Home in Jerusalem" while on vacation in Israel for 10 days. The front desk service was exceptional and Mahmoud in the Dining Room was the absolute best! Dining in the garden and chatting with Mahmoud during breakfast was one of our favorite moments! Also, we loved being within walking distance of Old Town. I highly recommend this budget friendly hotel!!

I came upon Addar Hotel by chance via the internet, not only are the charges reasonable and the place quiet and peaceful, more importantly, the staffs are all so helpful and courteous, pleasant and helpful right from Abraham and Mohamad at the front desk, who are ever so gracious and helpful, to Mahmud, at the dining, who is so cultured and obliging. They are GOD'S Beautiful People ! On my day of checkout, I was late for breakfast one hour after the closing and he still served me and my mother so graciously, he is a Blessing and a GEM !
GOD bless all of Addar !

Our stay at this hotel was a nightmare, and we ended up moving after the first night to another place. The room was in disrepair, and the service was appalling. We were missing basic items, like towels, phone, and even electricity in the bedroom. The staff falsely assured us it would be taken care of, and we had to go down to the front desk twice just to get a towel. The front desk manager, Abraham was rude, dismissive, and condescending when we voiced our grievances and desire to check out early. As if he didn't believe us, he asked me to walk upstairs with him and point out everything that was wrong with the room.

Even after acknowledging the problems and with absolutely no regard for the rights of the guest, he had the nerve to give us two choices: stay or leave without a refund of the nights we were not staying there. He refused our request to speak with another staff member or manager-- either in person, by phone, or electronically.

It's a shame that the first impression that my family got of this beautiful city was the Addar Hotel nightmare, but such an egregious lack of hospitality and respect for the traveler is not the norm here.

I would advise anyone considering the Addar Hotel to explore other options.

Good:

- Mahmoud (dining room) and Abraham (front desk) were so helpful
- limited free parking
- 10 to 15 minute walk to The Old City
- free breakfast
- quiet room

Not so good:

- hotel furnishings have seen better days
- difficult to determine where free parking is permitted

Mahmoud was so friendly and helpful. He, and Abraham at the front desk were always available to help us find things and arrange a driver to take us to Bethlehem. They were very good resources during the first 4 days of our Israel trip.

The trip to The Old City (Damascus Gate) is an easy walk (15 minutes maximum). We were able to find a pharmacy, small food stores and restaurants within a few minutes walk.

Our room was quiet. The furnishings were old, and the pull-out that my son slept on was not comfortable at all. I had trouble controlling the air conditioning. It was only full blast cold, or off.
