While this hotel is not in the heart of the old city, it was a welcome retreat from the exhausting bustle and the noise/crampedness of the main tourist attractions. The old city can be reached by free shuttle bus from the hotel and a pick-up from the Jaffa Gate (around 5pm) to return to the hotel is also available. There is also a brand new tram line behind the hotel which connects with the old city, traditional markets near Ben Yehuda and Yad Vashem Holocaust museum (which is some distance to the west of city centre). This hotel is modern, sparkling clean and has all the comforts of home, which are so often craved when far from home. The breakfast comprises of a huge buffet with almost every possible food you can imagine. A huge dinner buffet is also available in the evenings but we passed on that as it was expensive for smaller appetites. There are so many other places to dine in and experience in Jerusalem anyway. There is also a bar area with delicious hummous, israeli salads and light lunches. (Food served in the hotel was added to our room and was discounted at the end of the week due to an Israeli VAT refund policy for tourists?) The hotel itself is expansive with a beautiful pool area and it can get busy with bus tours. Although it gets busy, the staff do not economise on individual attention. Eyal in the concierge was a wealth of information on where to go and how to get there, local customs etc. Although we had problems with the room we were first given in the B Block (there were noisy refurbishments taking place which woke us up three mornings in a row from 7am), our complaint was handled very satisfacorily in the end. Unfortunately, we had to to wait an hour for our complaint to be dealt with as a bus tour showed up around the same time and we had to wait for passengers to be checked in. But in the end one of the nice receptionists got permission to move us (no quibble) to a beautiful room on the 6th floor overlooking the city. It had a large, beautifully sunny balcony so it made our holiday in the end. Overall, it was a fantastic place to stay. We had plenty of energy for sightseeing and walking around during the day as we got very restful and peaceful sleep in a comfy bed every night. One other suggestion, as Jerusalem almost comes to a standstill for shabatt which is Friday night until sundown on Saturday (transport shuts down, and it's a bit of walk into city centre; also many restaurants shut down etc), we went on an organised trip to Masada and the Dead Sea on Saturday, so even on the shabatt, there's no reason to feel isolated, bored or hungry! Enjoy your trip to Jerusalem!
