“Nice amenities & close to town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 December 2012

Our french window was open when we checked into the room. We didn't find out until 2 nights later as the curtains was blocking the windows. Thought that it would be good if the french windows were closed during our check in. Nice view of Jerusalem. wifi available at the lounge. kettle available. good service too.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the special touches of our executive rooms, especially the enchanting surroundings of spectacular old city view as you mentioned.
Thank you for bringing to our attention the matter of the open window, it was dealt with immediately, and will of course be monitored.
We look forward to your return in the near future.

This hotel's room was spacious and comfortable. It was very clean and had many american-style amenities. However, the shower style was ridiculous. It had just a small glass pane to stop the water from getting splashed everywhere, which needless to say was pointless, because as small as it was, water always splashed all over the bathroom everytime someone showered. The location of the hotel is about a 1-hr walk from the Old City, so if you're looking for a hotel with a convenient walk to the old city, this isn't the place to stay. The breakfast buffet they served was delicious and sufficient even for american standards. The VIP lounge was also very nice and served delicious snacks and beverages. The spa area was really cool: they had a hammam, a very hot steam room (which was excellent!), a sauna, a jacuzzi, a couple pools and a large gym. My disappointment with the spa/gym/steam room area was that they closed so very early, so tourists who were out most of the day don't really get time to enjoy these amenities. I noticed Israelis are notoriously cheap/stingy so I assume that they perhaps closed early daily in order to not have to waste extra time tending staffing the spa to let travel weary tourists actually enjoy it without rushing. They should at least stay open until midnight like many american hotels do. Most of the staff at this hotel had sour faces and looked very unhappy to be working here. The majority of the staff didn't smile and looked as if they were bothered to help you when you needed something. We were very disappointed that for all the money we paid, we didn't get nearly the value we should've gotten at this hotel. Even though the hotel has plenty of parking and is a spacious, nice-looking hotel, the customer service is seriously lacking. The staff need to be trained better at how to treat customers with respect and actually smile while they work with clients. One nice touch, however, was the fact that this hotel actually had good security, making it feel safe.

Room Tip: Choose a room that actually has a shower that is fully enclosed instead of partially open like ours...

Dear Andrew M,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us regarding your recent stay at the Dan Jerusalem.

It is extremely encouraging to learn of your appreciation for the finer details that we spend so long creating in order to enhance our guest experience. Our brand new Executive Rooms and Executive Lounge offer the perfect setting to relax and soak up the peaceful surroundings that the Dan Jerusalem has to offer. It seems that you enjoyed just that. Equally, being the largest in Jerusalem, the hotel takes great pride in the Spa and Health Club, and it is wonderful when our guests enjoy it. Regarding your mention of the Spa opening hours, please be assured that this is what is currently acceptable in Jerusalem. The spa is open on weekdays till 22:00 and closes early on the weekends. Your comments were noted for consideration, so thank you for highlighting this.

It is a concern to read of your disappointment in our staff, all your comments have been noted. Please be assured that we conduct regular training and interactive sessions, continuously investing in our team.
The Dan Jerusalem houses a dedicated team of friendly and willing workers, who work round the clock to ensure our guest satisfaction; we are sorry you felt differently on this occasion.

We sincerely hope that you choose to return to the Dan Jersualem, please be in touch directly prior to your next visit.

This was one of my best vacations! I stayed st the hotel for 4 days.
During my entire visit the staff was friendly and helpful, service at the front desk efficient and pleasant.
My room was clean and I enjoyed very much the face that it was relaxing yet modern, and the beds are very comfortable too!
Breakfast and Diner - both great service and very good food.
I visited the King David lounge which has a unique atmosphere. I loved the view and design!
The hotel is located a few blocks from the light train station - definitely another advantage if you are looking for a dat tour in the city.
All together a very pleasant stay!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 5th floor are very nice

I stayed for 10 days as part of a team leading a group in early November 2012. I had a deluxe room and didn't see a standard room so cannot comment on those. The room was very good, spacious, well furnished, the bathroom was excellent with a good shower and lots of storage space including a large drawer which meant the surface around the sink could be kept tidy. Housekeeping was good and the room was very clean.
The public areas of the hotel are excellent with a large lobby/lounge with free wifi, plenty of seating and food and drink service. Two outdoor seating areas were also very attractively furnished and provided a good view over Jerusalem. Breakfast and dinner are both buffet-style and the food is pretty good.
The hotel was mainly filled by tour groups although there were a number of family groups in over the weekends. For couples or families travelling independently the groups may get a bit annoying although they tended to be made up of more 'mature' people so unruly behaviour is unlikely to be a problem.
The hotel is a couple of miles out of the old city but the hotel provides a free shuttle once a day. The tram system is about a 10 minute walk away and is reasonably priced (about £1 a journey).
The spa facility was very reasonably priced but was very tired and shabby, with broken drains round the hot tubs and discoloured tiles in the pool. The outdoor pool was fine and I appreciated the free lounger covers that were provided. It was a pity that the route to the pool was through the spa lobby and across a grassed area that needed some attention.
The negatives I have are mainly associated with the staff. The lobby bar staff were friendly on the whole and no one was actually rude or difficult. However, reception staff never smiled or offered a friendly greeting. They usually dealt with my requests, but their assistance was often accompanied by a sigh, or an eye-rolling to a colleague. The hotel provides no tourist literature so guests are forced to approach staff for information and then made to feel like they are a nuisance for asking. The one exception to this was Ben, the concierge. He could not do enough to help me sort things for my group and I don't know what I would have done without him. However, he seemed to be the only concierge so when he wasn't on duty there was no way of arranging a tour, enquiring about transport, finding out local information etc. His hours of work seemed somewhat erratic and on two occasions I waited an hour for him to arrive to man the concierge desk, having been informed of his start time by the reception staff, and during my vigil not one of the many staff members who could see me waiting spoke to me or offered to help, or apologised for the fact that there was no concierge service. In fact there seemed a marked reluctance on the part of staff to make eye contact with guests. There was always a staff member stationed at a desk outside the main entrance and in 10 days I never figured out what their job was as they never moved or greeted anyone as they passed through the door. One of the girls at the desk was armed so perhaps it was a security role - I don't know.
So, in conclusion, the Dan Jerusalem is a very nice hotel and if helpful, smiley service is not high on your list, you will be fine staying there.

Dear Midlifecrisis,

Thank you for your detailed review; It is clear that you took the time share your thoughts and we truly appreciate your constructive feedback.

Our team takes great pride in providing each guest with a memorable experience. As such, it was wonderful to read of your kind appreciation for the finer details of your rooms, spacious public areas and lavish buffets.
Your highlighted observations regarding our team have of course been noted and are being addressed; thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I am extremely pleased that you enjoyed our concierge services. It was a shame that during your stay you were not made aware of the digital information stand that we offer for pure guest convenience. It offers updated, local tourist information at all hours of the day, this could have been helpful. Having said that, the experiences you mentioned do not sound in keeping with the service standards we strive to deliver as have been highlighted for furtehr retraining exercises. On the back of invaluable guest feedback as yours, we are able to monitor and develop our service delivery, so thank you again.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Dan Jerusalem in the near future.
