The American Colony Hotel

This hotel, while not cheap, is worth every cent and superior to any other hotel in Jerusalem. Every corner of this hotel is designed with perfect taste and been thoroughly thought at, the beautiful pool-side, the bar, the small botanical garden and of course the rooms which are incredibly large, welcoming, luxurious and actually gives the feeling of a colonial master, especially with a working desk, old-style, in the middle of the room and the huge wooden doors...our room faced the pool which was very beautiful and pleasant at evening on the small balcony. Staff is very friendly, breakfast is rich and if the weather is nice can be eaten at the lovely garden. The hotel has also managed to keep the place up to date and modern while still keeping the uniqueness of this historical building on every corner. we really wished we could have stayed another night.

Room Tip: rooms differ in prices but if available try and book one of the Pasha's wives rooms facing the p...

The American Colony Hotel is among the very top Hotels of Jerusalem, with splendid service and a very attentive staff. Rooms are in general of a very high standard, and contains all what you need for a comfortable stay. Food in restaurant is very good, dining in the backyard garden put an extra dimension to the experience (open in summer months). Breakfast also very good. Very nice and newly upgraded swimming-pool area.

I did not stay at this great hotel, but to use the bar and ate here on one occasion in the bar.
Walking in through the gates you can tell this is a quality hotel, which matches the prices you will pay.
The reception and lobby are immaculate and colonial, which just makes it very impressive.
The bar is reached by walking down a flight of stairs and into a dimly lit room with rooms off it for chairs, or choose to sit at the bar. Sadly smoking is allowed and if you remember the morning after smell of tobacco then you understand how unpleasant that is.
The food served here is not cheap, but is good quality and plentiful, with a fair option
The options as far as drinks go are good, also when you first think your paying over the odds, with a bit of research and seeing what others charge pro-rata for quality/quantity, it is actually fairly priced for this area/Jerusalem
I really would recommend popping in here, even if you cannot stay for a glass of wine and meeting the friendly staff

Room Tip: If you can afford it, it is worth it

Unfortunately we did not stay here on our visit to Jerusalem but we will do next time!
We enjoyed a drink in the garden bar which is very stylish and relaxed. The tables are well spaced out, the service was quick and very friendly (see my review of Metropolitan Hotel, Tel Aviv) and the price of drinks surprisingly reasonable given the hotel's status and reputation.
It is clear that the Swiss management is having a significant impact on the standard of service.
We had already eaten so only saw other clients' food but this all looked good and seemed to be going down well. The wood-fired pizza oven situated near to the bar was used constantly during our stay.

There cannot be any other lace in the world like the American Colony! Its understated class and charm exude from everywhere. Our room in the Palm House will never be forgotten. We had drinks each evening in the outdoor bar, and cherish that memory even now!

Room Tip: My wife had the BST massage of her life at the hotel!!
