There is nothing so amazing as to stay in a city that is thousands of years old. The locations is superb, the accommodations clean, simple, appropriate to being in Jerusalem. Even though it was very warm when we were there we had an electric fan which was fine with the windows open. The garden was delightful and a visit to the oldest Christian church in Jerusalem an added bonus. The food was excellent and friendly staff were very helpful. You can not only easily walk anywhere in the Old City within minutes, there is a modern shopping mall right out of Jaffa Gate convenient to any needs. This is the place to stay to enjoy a 2000 year old experience!

I loved staying at christchurch guest house. The location is fantastic, the garden and the buildings were lovely and the staff were friendly and always helpful. My room was small, but that doesnt bother me, no A/C as others have noted, but as my room got a bit warm i just opened the window more. I met a lot more other travellers, mainly at breakfast, than usually happens, and as a single traveller that was great. I dont think it was just chance, i think it was partly the clientele, and also due to the outdoor area where people mixed more. I love jerusalem, and would definitley stay at christchurch when i visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a balcony.

You cannot beat this small hotel for location.
It is located inside the old city and put EVERYTHING within walking distance.
If you are a "Boots on the Ground" kind of adventurer, this is the place to stay!
the food is fantastic and you simply MUST eat at "Mose's Resturant" two doors down!
Order the Shishlac...It is beyond divine!

Christ Church is a bit of a mixed bag - and I suspect this may be due to an identity crisis in its business plan.

The good things - the courtyard is still an oasis of peace and calm, and the guest house does feel like a real sanctuary. It is fantastically located within the Old City and has free parking; a brilliant combination if you're touring Israel by hire car. The staff are helpful and accessible. The free wi-fi internet was a Godsend for us, allowing us to plan our trips around and out of Jerusalem. There is a community feel to it - other guests are up for a chat with plenty of singles staying, so if you're travelling alone it can be good. Although most guests, if not all, appeared to be over the age of 40. It was also very secure. Plenty of complimentary toiletries. Fridge in the room (albeit a very loud one).

The areas they need to work on - the room was dated; the bathroom was old, stained and smelled of damp with a bit of a pathetic shower. No air conditioning in our room. Coffee and tea making facilities were communal. The cleaners were not as attentive as they could be. The buffet breakfast was adequate (though I've had better breakfasts in cheaper hostels).

It markets itself as a guest house and has a kind of hostel feel to it - which would be fine, if you weren't paying hotel-level prices. And this is the source of the areas for development above... it seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. It feels like it's not sure whether it is a top-end hostel, a guest house, or a hotel. Much of the work is done by volunteers (it's a venture that raises money for a Christian mission to the Jewish community), which is clearly not going to be able to provide the same level of service as the hotels in its price-band (how do you deal with cleaners that forget to change the towels if they're unpaid volunteers?).

If you don't mind paying hotel prices for a top-end hostel (albeit one with some excellent facilities, such as the parking, security, wi-fi and the unbeatable location), then this stuff isn't a problem. To get good value out of Christ Church, you kind of need to be a 'pilgrim' visitor to the Old City who is there to see its sights and not wanting a hotel spa, great restaurant, etc, and with decent trip funding.

If you're travelling on a tight budget, there are cheaper places in the Old City.

We had a super stay for 4 nights in this guest house. The location inside the Jaffa Gate is perfectly convenient to the Old City sites. The hearty breakfast (included) and options for lunch and dinner gave us easy and reasonably priced dining.

The staff provided helpful information and warm hospitality. It was particularly moving to have Palm Sunday service at Christ Church. The rector's sermon pulled together our experience in traveling through Jesus' areas of Galilee and Jerusalem.

Since we are both tall, we found the double bed a bit small. So, we also used the roll out sofa bed.

The Tower of David across the street has some of the most innovative museum exhibits that we've seen.

Room Tip: Room 14 was a wonderful location on the upper floor in the courtyard--beautiful views with patio and quiet.
