The room and bathroom are nice, somewhat small for a five star hotel, but functional and adequate for 2 people with 2 large suitcases. Hand towels arrangement in bathroom a little awkward. The breakfast is outstanding. The service is excellent. They let us check in at 4 AM in the morning upon our arrival from the airport without extra charge! It is about 20 minutes easy walk to the old city. Car parking is free. The lobby is nice. Overall we had a good experience.

I stayed at the Inbal for 4 nights in January 2012. The room was very large by European standards, was very comfortable. The only let down was there was a hole in the sheets. The room was clean, and there was a complimentary bottle of water in the room, which was very welcome after the long flight. Breakfast was a very large spread and it seemed even when dining late in the morning that the selection was well stocked. I stayed on a corporate rate and may not have been as happy if the hotel had been what I had seen it advertised for on a travel site. The hotel is a short walk to the Jaffa Gate, which, if walked in summer, may not have felt so close, but for January it was perfect.

We are just completing our second stay at the Inbal this time having stayed her for 10 days. There is little that I can add to all of the reviews here that justifiably praise this outstanding hotel. Everything about the Inbal is first rate. The front desk staff are unfailingly patient and helpful, the rooms spacious, clean and high quality, the food (especially the breakfasts) terrific and attention to detail is evident every inch of the hotel.

I am concerned about the views expressed for this Hotel as my experience was a tired and uncomfortable hotel which was 15 minutes uphill walk to the Jaffa Gate. The comparison to the David Citidel is not credable. The furniture in the lobby is tired and needs upgrading as to all the common areas. The rooms we had facing outwards towards the old city were meant to be the best however my experience was that they were dark and had small windows. The food was excellent and most of the staff were very pleasant. My advice is that you are far better staying at another Hotel and give the Inbal a miss.

Dear London Pilot

I would like to thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention .
I regret that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion; every effort is made to ensure the highest levels of guests experience throughout the hotel, so I was very sorry to hear that we fell short.
To your comment concerning our furniture, i would like to offer the following; the hotel is currently undergoing various changes including renovations.

As for the uphill walk to Jaffa gate, any direction you come from in Jerusalem will eventually become an uphill walk towards the Old city as the whole of Jerusalem including the Old city and Jaffa Gate, are built on the mountainous area of Judea.

I appreciate and thank you again for taking the time to post your comment.

Based on the star rating, the location and the reviews we read, the Inbal was an easy first choice for our week in Jerusalem in Feb., 2012. We were not disappointed. Everything about this hotel spoke “elegant,” “user-friendly” and “hospitable.” We booked two simple adjoining rooms and the hotel had them ready before noon on the morning of arrival. The rooms were sunny, tasteful and comfortable. The bathrooms had pleasing amenities. There were plenty of towels. The windows opened onto the courtyard.

Amazing breakfast
We were told to expect a great breakfast and the Inbal exceeded our high expectations. There was fresh fruit, amazing preserves, cooked food, Israeli food (salads, vegetables), Jewish food (lox, whitefish), wonderful bread, very friendly staff – especially the omelet maker, what a sweet guy – constant serving of coffee and hot water in the dining room. A real feast.

Incredibly responsive staff
The rooms were cleaned impeccably and extra towels were offered almost every night. Desk staff was helpful without being obtrusive. Breakfast room and room service staff were lovely. Only the lunch, despite the fact that it was only soup and salade, was served quite slowly. This was in keeping with our experience at most restaurants in town.

Swimming pool
The Inbal has what seems to us the only hotel pool in Jerusalem accessible in winter. Using an apparently custom-made Italian canvas cover that lofts over the pool like a bubble, the hotel has created a year-round pool off the very nice workout room. Very special.

Excellent location
We walked almost everywhere:

• to the Old City, the Mamilla Mall and to other hotels
• to the Mahane Yehuda market (though it took a while)
• to the windmill and Yemin Moshe.
• to Emek Rafaim and its shops and food stores
• and just next door, to the Liberty Bell Park and all of its climbing and exercise stuff – great for kids

Strong internet
Wi-Fi was included in the price of the room and was accessible from the entire hotel, even by the outdoor pool.

Garage – and free car!
The garage was spotless and there was usually plenty of room to park. The service in general was so good, we had the feeling they would make room for us even if there wasn’t any. For certain stays (the web site says in winter), Inbal has an arrangement with Hertz down the street to give guests a free rental car. We chose to upgrade from a subcompact Mazda 3 to a more spacious Mazda 5 for $17 a day and we had to pay an additional $15 for the insurance coverage – since the car was free, the credit card plan we usually use would not cover it, we were told. But the added freedom to get around was priceless. GPS (another few bucks, very easy, spoke English – mostly) was very useful once we were outside the core of the city. Google Maps were better for getting out of the center.

Just two caveats:

Don’t sleep above the breakfast room
Don’t book a room in the area of 560 if you plan to sleep past 8am. The room was just above the conference and breakfast rooms and there was not sufficient sound isolation. One day I was woken out of a sound sleep by the loud sound of chair scrapes. I was using earplugs so I know the sound was loud. This is likely true of the rooms on either side of 560 (558, 562) and almost certainly true of those below it e.g. 460.

Shabbat is not quiet time
It’s a quibble, but the hotel became incredibly full on the Shabbat we were there. The families that moved in acted as if the hotel were truly their home and made no effort at all to quiet their kids in the halls or in the rooms. Loud.

Booking quirk
And one quirk: it was not easy to get the best rates for this hotel any other way than through an agent. This seemed to be generally true for hotels in Jerusalem, many of which do not even have online booking systems. We went through an agency, and their work was fine, but it took some getting used to for an American accustomed to booking everything on the web.

A last plus point – soliciting our opinion
The Inbal made a more vigorous effort than most hotels to truly learn what we thought about our stay. So despite being in a bit of a hurry, I filled out the form that the desk clerk provided at checkout. While giving the hotel perfect ratings in most categories, I was honest about the issues mentioned here. A few days later, a manager emailed me in impeccable English, thanked us for our stay and assured us that next time we are there, we will receive an upgrade to a better room. The kicker: the email itself included a button for publishing a review on Trip Advisor. Nice touch. We’d stay here again in an instant.

Room Tip: Stay away from the rooms directly above the conference facility/breakfast room.

the Inbal is a great Jerusalem hotel. It's in a wonderful location, easy walking distance to the old City/Jaffa gate, through Yemin Moshe and the park. They are very centrally located. Services are very good, the staff was very conscientious to our needs. We had 2 rooms, housing myself and my husband, and the other room had the kids in it. They were adjoining rooms through a hallway....it was a corner set up, where you entered a "main door" off the main hallway, and then there was a vestibule and 2 doors, one to the right, one straight ahead, so we could totally lock the "outside" door and still hear the kids, etc, and they had room to move around in. The pool in the bubble was a huge hit in the month of November. The breakfast is second to none! Huge buffet breakfast, varied fruits, veggies, cheeses, yogurts, eggs. Everything a wonderful Israeli breakfast should be. I would highly recommend the Inbal. You get what you pay for, and the Inbal, while not the least expensive hotel in Jerusalem, is not charging what some of the other "luxury" hotels charge, and you get a good value.
