“Shades of 1980s department store canteens??”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014

Located approx 800 metres North of Herod`s Gate in the old Jerusalem Wall, this hotel provides an impressive frontage and reception area. On the other hand, the bedroom was rather average whilst the en-suite, whilst providing all the usual facilities, was rather cramped in size and in need of refurbishment. It appears that the hotel concentrates on providing for tour groups which reflected particularly in the standard of catering for the breakfast and dinner buffets. For the latter a wide selection of salad dishes was provided but this was accompanied with a rather poor offering of meat dishes which with the table layout reduced the restaurant to being reminiscent of the old department store canteens.
Regrettably service was also very patchy. The maitre de` and one lounge barman provided a good level of service, but it was necessary to ask reception for attention to the room fridge and to replace a chipped cup three times before a response was forthcoming. Also a simple request for a portion of the ubiquitous falafel to accompany a salad for lunch was apparently quite beyond the hotel`s capabilities as "it was not on the menu"!

I stayed at this lovely Hotel for 4 nights. I was travelling with my husband on pilgrimage to the Holy Land with a large group, with a diverse age group, young people as well as elderly.
The hotel is located a fair distance away from the old city, but for our stay it was perfect as we were taken to all the sites by bus. The Hotel does get busy with a lot of pilgrims, but it has been so beautifully designed that even with so many people it still remains spacious, never crowded. The breakfast and dinner buffets were wonderful with a great selection on offer. If you have a sweet tooth you will love the mouth watering desserts and cake section of the evening buffet. Even with all the many guests at one sitting, I never had to wait for coffee. The wait staff were efficient and courteous. I did stay in the hotel one whole day, due to a minor health issue, whilst my fellow pilgrims went on tour. It felt as if I had the whole hotel to myself. I was able to walk around and really enjoy the facilities. It was so peaceful. The decor downstairs in the lobby area is really very special, gorgeous furnishings and fittings. The floral arrangements are awesome. There are two shops in the hotel complex. I recommend the shop inside the hotel. The owner is a very kind and honest man and will answer all your questions. He is not pushy and is extremely polite. The souvenirs here are not pricey and are good value for money, and there is a lot of choice on offer. I enjoyed lunch for one, and my tuna baguette was huge. There also is an ATM one street away in the back of the Hotel. I found this by just walking around the block. There is an ATM inside the hotel, but you can only withdraw small amounts of cash, which isn't ideal when the fees and conversion charges are then added on top. It is a large hotel catering to very large groups. There are lifts. It is a modern and very beautiful hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and spotless. My room overlooked the atrium, and it did tend to get hot in the afternoon, but most people are out and about at that time, so you wouldn't even know. The amenities were fabulous, beautiful bath products. One problem that we did encounter was that the water was turned off at 6 am one morning. The hotel was experiencing a plumbing problem. But it was rectified after an hour and a half. An absolutely gorgeous hotel.

Nice hotel....helpful staff. Our room had a balcony..friends did not. I suggest requesting a room with a balcony. Buffet had large selection of food. Good location. One drawback free wireless was only down in the lobby area. Had some nice shops in and next to the hotel.

Room Tip: Request balcony

My wife and I stayed at the Olive Tree Hotel on part of our trip through EO Tours. We were with 18 other church members. THe Olive Tree was an excellent place to stay. The staff was very helpful in all areas; front desk, dining area, porters, etc. I used the laundry service provided and it was done perectly and on time for a reasonable cost. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. Our meals were mainly buffet style but the food was very good and plenty of it. The dining room staff were friendly and checked on us frequently. The location was within walking distance of the Old City and Garden Tomb. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Olive Tree.

Stayed as part of 3 day tour of Jerusalem. First impressions good, but then at the evening meal told we could only sit at tables allocated to us, each tour being given their tables. As there were so many tour buses staying at the hotel it felt like a scrum actually going for the foodwhich was ok nothing special and not always replaced.Rooms large and adequate but waiting staff not always helpful. However reception staff came up trumps when I needed a pharmacy to obtain missing tablets. Within 30 mins.of me asking my tablets were delivered to reception - excellent service, thank you. I did see a quieter a la carte restaurant which looked better. Bar was a pleasant area to sit after a long day sightseeing and seemed to be well used.

We stayed here for 4 nights with an Educational Opportunities tour and found this hotel to be very good. Clean, friendly staff, great shower and fantastic and plentiful food on their buffets. We used dollars in the hotel and all over Israel with no problem. Never needed to exchange for shekels. EO tour was very good. Well planned and well worth the price. I would highly recommend both Olive Tree and EO Tours.
