Next to Zion Gate- we visited for a fantastic french organ recital just before Xmas- the performance and place were magical . As was said - great little shop with warm , communicative staff. Cafe looked buzzing and good food too- we ment to rtn for this but time was tight. Fee for loos I think.

“A charming church with it's own unique aura”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 December 2012

I first took my wife here during our short visit in May 2011, since Virgin Mary occupies a very special place in her mind and soul. When I came to Jerusalem again next year, she wanted me to visit this place again - and to show it to my step-daughter. Both times we were lucky to visit at the very moment when certain (different) groups of pilgrims were singing in the church; heavenly!
The spiral staircase leads down to the supposed place of Mary's dormition (this is where she passed away - not where she was buried - if you want to see her tomb, visit the Orthodox church right beside the Garden of Gethsemany).
There's an excellent small shop, - the best I've seen in the whole town, - where you can buy all kinds of religious souvenirs, regardless of the particular confession you belong to. Salespeople seemingly speak all possible languages! Also a cafe - very expensive, but still... Finally, in front of the entrance there's a small yard and chairs where you can take a rest while watching people coming in and out this very special place.

“I was many times and the place is mystic and quiet”

The problem in Dormition Abbey in the disputed originality of Mary's sepulcher with a chapel in the Turkish country, near to Ephesus.

“One of three burial places of the virgin Mary”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2012

A tastefully decorated German Catholic church. The virgin's tomb is in the cript, surrounded by chapels donated by different countries. Look at the beautiful ivory figures in the chapel built by the Ivory Coast. Closed at noon for services.
