“Sad place however we all need to be reminded of the horrors of the holocaust”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

I walked in shaking and left with tears in my eyes. The exhibit and design of the museum are done to show the horrors of this time period. Our guide was terrific and knew alot of history I am happy I went to see this because it relights a candle in your Jewish soul of the countless souls that were killed during this time and that we have to remember this so it never happens again.

“This Memorial should be compulsory”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

There is absolutely nothing to like about Yad Vashem, the name itself sends shivers down my spine. It is pretty much impossible to visit and not to cry at man's inhumanity to man. Yet, a visit is cathartic. Frankly, there is no Museum or Memorial to the Victims of the holocaust that comes close to the level of detail and understanding of Yad Vashem. No-one should fail to visit here so that when, in future, they hear people refer to genocide they know the meaning of what they are hearing and can listen in context.

“Thoughtful”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

I came out not heavy hearted but praying the holocaust never happens again. Very thought provoking. Very well done not too make it into a tear jerker but to make you think. It does!

“Very moving”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

The museum is shaped like an arrow shot through the hill. You enter and slowly descend to the lowest point of the building and of the holocaust and then you rise up until you exit into the light and the view of Israel. The exhibition shows life before the holocaust, photos of happy people enjoying life with their family and friends, it explains very clearly in Hebrew and in English what happened to the different Jewish communities in Europe. Much of it is hard to take, especially the video interviews with survivors. On the right before you leave id the Hall of Names, a circular room which holds the names of all the victims of the holocaust, in the centre is a hole hewn out of the rock which looks down into darkness. Very powerful.
Outside there are other memorials including the Avenue of the Righteous, trees planted in honour of non-Jews who have risked their lives to help Jews. Also there is the Children's Memorial, a dark room underground with a single candle flame lit, and reflected with mirrors 1.5 million times to represent the number of children murdered.
Not an easy visit but an essential one: you will come away in deep thought.

“A Must See”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

Yad Vashem is a crucial museum to see while visiting Israel. The stories conveyed, artifacts displayed and the limitless information is incredible. If you have the opportunity, go with a private guide. That takes the experience to a completely different level.
