Stay 15th-22nd May 2014
I have stayed at the Gloria on several occasions after trying other hotels and guest houses in Jerusalem. The others all faltered on different issues; e.g. breakfast finishing at 8 30am, cleanliness (lack of), location, poor service or unsafe food. The Gloria answers all these issues. I am a slightly older traveller requiring comfort, safety, location, cleanliness and good facilities. The staff have been unfailingly helpful, the rooms are spotless, food is not haute cuisine but is very good considering the number of large groups they cater for.
The lobby décor is a tasteful Middle Eastern style with a collection of very interesting artefacts and warm colourful stencilling. The rooms are being upgraded as far as facilities are concerned and now most have a safe, refrigerator and kettle with tea and coffee. Tea first thing in the morning is an essential for a Brit. My room has always been spotless.
The two brothers, Samir and Shukri, who run this hotel and the Knight's Palace take a personal interest in all aspects of the running of the hotel. Most of the staff are long serving which speaks for itself.
The only slightly negative comment is directed, not to the hotel, but to tour groups who do not engage in conversation outside of their group. Single travellers like myself often appreciate a little chat with other visitors. Thank you to the couple from Cleveland, Ohio who did engage in a conversation with me.
