“Great Location! Bare bones accomodation.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2010

The hotel is situated in the perfect place, right near the Ben Yehuda pedestrian mall. The hotel is on street closed to traffic. I stayed here for 11 nights at the end of January. Easy access to the whole city. The front desk staff is very helpful. The lobby is tastefully done, but the rooms are very basic. No toiletries provided, nor is there even an alarm clock in the room! There wasn't even a bathmat in the shower! One simple chair provided in the room, along with a small desk. Not much in the way of a view. On the plus side, the windows open to allow fresh air, and the HVAC system works well. The breakfasts are meager at best. Better to go to one of the numerous cafes nearby for food. If you're traveling alone and want clean, simple and affordable accommodations, this is the place for you.

If you need just a place to sleep, it is OK, but you should be able to do better.
Booked four nights in this hotel at the end of March 2010. The first night I was given a room on 7th floor. The room was unfurnished, small, noisy, with unclean bathroom. Was moved to a different room on 2nd floor. The new room was bigger and without problems. Small breakfast was included in the rate - good; though the choice was extremely limited, mostly cereals and canned fruits !!!
At the end of my stay I asked at the reception to order shared taxi (sherut, shuttle) to the airport. Since my flight was at the verge of Passover I asked a day before. Was told - no problem, sherut will not be affected by Passover, they will order. Checked the next morning - sherut was not ordered, but I can come back back at the evening and sherut will wait for me. Came back and was told that sherut stopped at 3 pm. At this moment my only option was to hire a (more expensive) taxi. Had a chance to practice my bargaining skills, but overall the reception should have known about Passover.

The Hotel Montefiore is just ok; nothing special. The location is good with relatively short walks to various points of interest, and it is on a no traffic street, so it is fairly quiet. It was unseasonably warm during our stay and the air-conditioning is off for the winter. They gave us a fan which was better than nothing. The room was spacious and nicely furnished. Breakfast was the worst out of the three hotels we stayed at on this trip. The selection was limited, (no fresh fruit?) and they didn't replenish very well after 9:00am even though breakfast was served until 10:00. They did accommodate us with a cot in the room when our son came to visit for a night. Also, and this is a good tip to remember, the front desk here exchanged U.S. dollars for NIS at the rate of 3.33 shekels per dollar. This was the worst rate we got anywhere. ATM's were giving 3.99 shekels per dollar. That's a big difference.

Clean, comfortable and very pleasant. Breakfast a lot better than I expected after checking here before traveling. Amazing location, easy walking distance to Old City and right next to Ben Yehuda pedestrian mall. Surprisingly quiet, given the location at the center of the action.

My husband and I stayed at the Montefiore for 10 days and we had an excellent experiene. The rooms are small but clean. The beds are very comfortable which is not usual for many hotels. The staff are outstanding. They are friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make sure our stay was a comfortable and pleasant one. The location is the best. Close to the Old City and Ben Yehuda without the huge noise! Excellent coffee in the room every morning. Coming back to the smiling faces of the staff late every evening and to a very comfortable bed made our stay even better.

The hotel is situated on a quiet side-street next to the old Knesset building and a couple of blocks away from the Ben Yehuda shopping street. It is a 15-minute walk to Yafo party street and a 20-minute walk to the Old City. It's a basic hotel with clean, normal-sized rooms (normal for Israel). The service is fine. The conference facilities are small and leave something to be desired. The Wifi is not 100% reliable as we lost our connection many times and had to reestablish it. Breakfast is from 7-10am and includes eggs. The restaurant is reasonably nice and the cafe across the street makes delicious coffee and pastries.

If you get a room in the back of the hotel, it will face directly into other people's windows. Many times we caught people staring into our room, so we had to close the curtains. There is a safe in the room which is easy to operate. We did leave stuff lying around and nothing was taken.

All and all, a good option for the price.

I picked the Montefiore Hotel based on recommendations from both TripAdvisor and Expedia. The hotel is very basic but is clean, includes breakfast, is in a good location, and has free WiFi. On the downside, the breakfast is just so-so but there's a small cafe across the street with good coffee and pastry. I'd stay here again even though there was construction on the in-house restaurant that started at 6am one day. I'm sure it was exceptional but, as I said, I'd stay here again.
