This is a beautiful traditional family-run hotel, just a few minutes away from Damascus Gate.
The rooms are stunning with high ceilings, and ornately decorated with traditional pictures, and wooden furnishings.
The garden is one of our favourite hang-outs in Jerusalem and is a melting pot of all nationalities and walks of life who come to enjoy the cosy convivial atmosphere.
Things don't always run perfectly but the staff try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. This is a place that we continue to return to year after year and we never consider staying anywhere else. It has become home away from home.
If you want to avoid chain-run hotels and support a Palestinian family owned business, this is a great place to go - it's a 19th century Arabic mansion, that has been owned and run by the same family since 1960.
The Jerusalem Hotel is extremely well located for visiting the Old City, just a 5 minute walk from Damascus Gate. You enter via a lovely garden terrace and bar, which serves decent local food and into the atmospheric, traditional style hotel. Rooms vary in size, some have lovely small balconies, but all have rustic charm and mine, although not large, had a great shower! Free wifi throughout the hotel.
The staff could not be more friendly and helpful.
The hotel has strong charme, old, with original furniture, family atmosphere, ideally located few steps from Damascus gate, the hearth of Jerusalem. But room was not perfectly clean, and people outside in the terrace could easily look inside through the window. Breakfast, due to end at 10.30, was with no bread and not much left already at 10. Very nice staff.
I have stayed at the Jerusalem Hotel twice, both when the city was experiencing extreme weather (a snow storm and a heatwave). They are super welcoming and helpful with checking and advising on onward travel arrangements, storing luggage, etc and I hope to go back. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for solo female travellers.
The rooms are beautiful and atmospheric, although if you stay there please be considerate to your fellow guests and don't talk too loudly in the central hallway, as noise does travel...
I would rather stay in this captivating and charismatic hotel than a sleek and modern accomodation with no soul and personality. Friendly staff and unique rooms with a rustic and unpolished style. Simple but nice arabian style breakfast. Nice beds and A/C working excellent!
