“A Treasure in the Old City!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 November 2009

We spent almost a month traveling in the Middle East and everyone in our group agreed the Lutheran Guest House was our FAVORITE place to stay, hands down! Location is ideal in the old city...close to Jaffa Gate, yet tucked in a quiet alley that reminded us of days gone by. The guest house is full of charm, character, and staff is helpful and hospitable. The facilities were very clean and modern with great AC. We had some wonderful quiet moments on the rofftop courtyard, enjoying the view. Free use of computer coupled with a decent breakfast buffet make this a winner of a place! Next time we return to Jerusalem, I know where we're staying!

Very centralized location in the old city. Very clean, great buffet breakfast, helpful staff, quiet at night. There was a volunteer every morning at breakfast who asked us if he had any concerns, complaints or questions and helped us with trip planning. The only thing we could have used was laundry service which they did not have, but there was a place in the old city that did that for us within walking distance. There is free wi fi in the lobby or you can hook up your laptop in your room.

I stayed for a week in February 09 having stayed there about 6 times before.
The setting is perfect for exploring the Old City but I cannot recommend it to fellow travelers for one important reason.
I know culturally it's very acceptable there but the open lounge areas and lobby area reek of cigarette smoke from the staff smoking ..
I won't be back as this makes for an unpleasant stay...

Stayed at the Lutheran guest house for six nights. With the clean enviroment I considered what I paid a bargain. I heard of cheaper places, however the quality I would not consider a match. The location I consider a plus because I was able to beat the crowds at the sites in the old city since they were just a short walk. The only down side is if it is your first visit it may be hard to find at first. I had 2 bags that I was able to carry. To get there you will have to climb MANY steps so roller luggage will not be a good idea. PACK LIGHT! The food was average, however I felt the staff was good. They gave me a insite of the atomsphere in the old city.

My wife and I just returned from a 3 night stay here in the Old City. Overall we were very pleased with this hotel although we found it very difficult to find and transport luggage to initially. Taxis are not allowed in the old section so be aware that you must transport luggage down steps and cobble stone streets for some distance. Pack lightly! Directions were difficult due to the nature of the winding walkways and broken English spoken by some of the hotel staff. All that being said, once we got our bearings the location was really OK. It is ideally located if you want to stay in the Old City.
The hotel was clean with adequate but tight bedrooms. The bathroom had above average room with a walk in shower.
Positives of the hotel in addition to location are the very helpful staff, a good breakfast, as well as a delightful relaxing garden area that has a beautiful view of the Dome of the Rock at night.

We (couple) stayed there for 6 nights in August 2008. The hostel is really in the old city, i.e. you have to go through the souks to go there and you hear the sounds of the different church bells and mosques and smell the different aromas.
We got a freshly renovated room with a twin bed.The interior was new, simple and convenient. There was no air condition,i.e. we had to sleep with windows opened and although we had 27 C in the room at night.
There was no TV in the room, the TV in the coffee /meeting room didn't work. There was no daily newspaper in the house. That's a negative point for me because I like to be informed about the world news /politics travelling in Israel.
Breakfast was good, typically Israelian.
There's a roof top terrace from where you can enjoy wonderful views about Jerusalem.
They sell some mineral waters and alcohol at reasonable prices.
Staff was helpful and friendly.
