“Great Location and Great Experience”

The Saint Mark’s Lutheran Guest House is a great place to stay in the Old City. We were treated wonderfully, helpful and friendly staff, great room, free computer/internet access, good breakfast, and I talked to the staff at least an hour each day. The most amazing thing was the architecture of the building and after walking around the Old City it is very quick walk back to your room for a quick break or even a nap. I highly recommend this guest house and I will stay there again in the future…and I hope you enjoy it too.

I have recently stayed 5 nights at the guesthouse. What a special place to stay in the old city of Jerusalem! Location is fantastic- 7 minutes walk to Jaffa Gate where tourist information centre is located and 10 minutes to the posher Mamilla shopping complex which is across the road from Jaffa gate. St Marks Road is a quiet residential street off David Street which is part of the market in Christian Quarter. As the guesthouse is situated so close to Jaffa Gate inside the old city, you get the charm of old city and yet convinient access to the new city's restaurants and bars. We felt very safe to walk to and from the new city in the evenings.

Our twin room on the ground floor facing the courtyard was quiet, clean, spacious and comfortable. Radiator in the room made the room cosy and warm. There's also an air condition. Bathroom was also clean and spacious. Only bar soaps and towels are provided so make sure you bring your own toiletries. Our room was cleaned and serviced everyday.

In the common room on the first floor, there are one TV with hundreds of channels, tea/coffee facilities, chairs, a piano and books. In another common room, there's one computer with free internet access. There's free wireless in the reception area. Courtyard is very pretty and has a good view of the old city. Breakfast buffet included in the rate was basic. Cold meat, olives, fruits, yogurt, eggs, bread, hummus and hot/cold drinks were offered.

Reception staff were all very friendly and helpful. The guesthouse booked our Nesher shuttle bus to Ben Gurion airport from Jaffa Gate for NIS50pp- the journey took more than an hour in traffic. I suggest give plenty of time before your flight because traffic can be heavy and security checks are indeed very thorough at the airport.

Overall, Lutheran Guesthouse offers an excellent location, comfortable room and friendly staff. The place is atmospheric. I would highly recommend this guesthouse to my friends.

I stayed at this charming guest house recently, the first time I have ever stayed in the Old City. While I continue to recommend the New City for a variety of reasons, primarily access to restaurants and night life in the evening, if you are interested in the Old City, this is a delightful and, in my view, the best choice.

It is impeccably clean and well run. The rooms are modest and a bit spartan, but very acceptable. Inexplicably, they did not provide shampoo or more than one bar of soap. That's about it for the room complaint. You can access Internet at no charge via ethernet cable (provided), and the breakfasts are just fine.

Desk staff, particularly the delightfully helpful George Sa'adeh, are very good.

I really loved this little place. If staying in the Old City again, it's a no-brainer.

When walking down the souk to get to the hotel I was wondering if we had made the right decision to stay at the Lutheran but when we walked inside the huge door to the hotel my fears were all allayed. The hotel have managed to update to clean modern standards whilst keeping all the traditional feeling of the place. My favourite place was out on the terraced garden which is lovely to sit in and look out over the tops of Jereusalem right up to the Mount of Olives. The atmosphere is very restful and I would recommend it to anyone who visits Israel and wants to stay in the Old City. The only fault that I could find was that the shower curtains were not long enough to fit in the trays and therefore the bathroom floor got quite wet when being used. But I can put up with that. We did not have evening meals so I cannot comment on the food but it is nice to have the option there if needed. The breakfasts were typical Israeli breakfasts which we enjoyed in a nice dining room. The service from all staff was excellent. The reception staff especially were very helpful with advice and booking taxis for us. All in all we had a wonderful time at the Lutheran and we will definately stay there again.

We spent almost a month traveling in the Middle East and everyone in our group agreed the Lutheran Guest House was our FAVORITE place to stay, hands down! Location is ideal in the old city...close to Jaffa Gate, yet tucked in a quiet alley that reminded us of days gone by. The guest house is full of charm, character, and staff is helpful and hospitable. The facilities were very clean and modern with great AC. We had some wonderful quiet moments on the rofftop courtyard, enjoying the view. Free use of computer coupled with a decent breakfast buffet make this a winner of a place! Next time we return to Jerusalem, I know where we're staying!

Very centralized location in the old city. Very clean, great buffet breakfast, helpful staff, quiet at night. There was a volunteer every morning at breakfast who asked us if he had any concerns, complaints or questions and helped us with trip planning. The only thing we could have used was laundry service which they did not have, but there was a place in the old city that did that for us within walking distance. There is free wi fi in the lobby or you can hook up your laptop in your room.
