Stayed here as part of a tour and really enjoyed it. Staff are friendly, professional and very service oriented, especially the front desk where Nirvana's extra mile attitude shines indeed. Our room was very large and looked over an interior courtyard so was very quiet (which may not be the case for all as the hotel is located directly on a busy street corner with no setback from the curb). Decor was modern with calming colours and cool tile floors. Bathrooms were of a good size, good water pressure, and well equipped. We especially enjoyed the location in east Jerusalem with the busy street scene (especially in the evenings) and window into the other reality of Israel. We found everyone friendly and welcoming. It is also an excellent location for visiting the Old City - Herod's Gate barely a 10 minute walk away, and Damascus Gate only slightly further. Tours have their breakfast in a lower level room, which is not especially scenic and as it is a little small can get crowded and noisy in the earlier hours as tour groups are rushing to make their morning departure times. However there is a good selection of American style (eggs, cereals, toast etc) as well as middle Eastern style(hummus, labneh, cheeses, fish, olives, halwah, breads etc) breakfast choices and you should be able to have a bountiful and delicious meal plus enjoy variety if you are staying over more than 1 day. The chef usually is in the room overseeing the selection and obviously taking pride in his work and the guests' enjoyment. We also ate one breakfast and one dinner in the top floor dining room, a spacious and comfortable room with lovely views all around and a nice outdoor balcony. Food was fresh and delicious, with extra variety and more personal touches at breakfast (eg. omelette station). The dinner menu had lots of local dishes which we enjoyed and found very reasonable. The service was excellent - attentive without being obtrusive.

The only negative thing about the hotel is the fact that once you get out of it, you find yourself in the dirt of the crowded arab part of town. The hotel itself is super clean, the rooms are nice, the breakfast is decent. Staff is amazongly friendly and helpful. Free fast Wifi and free parking for a more than attractive price. A real recommendation unless you care about the "less attractice" surrounding.

The staff was very polite, Nirvana is an amazing host, a very warm, prompt and professional front desk manager and I loved the way they handle requests. She has a very good memory, she remembers guests' names and every detail of their reservation / requests. She clearly enjoys her job and is committed to offering the highest quality of service.
The area was not noisy and I felt safe and I had a good night sleep. No Muslim prayers in the middle of the night even if it is located in East Jerusalem.
Great location, close to the Mount of Olives, Damascus Gate, Herod's Gate, Old City, 15 min. To Jaffa Gate. I received a map and fruit platter and water on my first night. Great way to welcome guests. The hotel is very clean. I especially enjoyed the mint tea, the falafel, the hummus.
Many thanks to the staff. You are wonderful !

My wife and I chose the National for its proximity to the Old City and the Damascus Gate where we were to arrive and depart Jerusalem via sherut. Less than 15 minutes by foot to the sherut station and less than 10 to Herrod's Gate and the Old City. The hotel is nicely renovated and modern. Our room was very roomy and had an entrance to the shared large patio on the second floor. A big bonus was the complimentary mini-bar in the small refrigerator! We also received a plate of assorted fruits on our first evening. The breakfast buffet was impressive in quantity and quality and is served in the very airy and bright restaurant on the fifth floor. We were especially impressed by the friendly greeting we received from Nirvana, the desk agent, upon our arrival and from the hotel owner/manager who we shared an elevator ride with on the way to breakfast our first morning. Also nice was its location in a vibrant (except on Fridays) section of East Jerusalem with lots of restaurants and shops. We really felt like part of the neighborhood by the time we left four days later!

We would definitely stay here again!

Me and my family came here first to have some food on the top floor restaurant of the hotel. It was our first day and we were feeling a little down after two whole days of travelling and a less than auspicious welcome at our chosen hotel. All those feelings dissipated once we arrived. I am physically disabled and came in my wheelchair, the staff helped me up the entrance without being asked, they showed me to our table, had some beautiful food and commenting on how beautiful the service and staff were... Once we had ate, we were in conversation with a nice man (a little more on him later) and his son who made us have their desserts. We told him how amazing this hotel was, how welcome we felt, how even though we didn't know them at all, we still felt a bond with the place... He replied, telling us how this was a hotel rich in history and how it was one of the very few, if not only, restaurant in Jerusalem that was did not sell alcohol. For us as a practising Muslim family, that was a great thing to hear.
About half an hour later, we all decided we loved the place so much that we wanted to change our booking. When we got to the desk, we were told that the hotel was fully booked for one of the days, but the receptionist said she would speak to the owner of the hotel... When the owner came, it was a surprise to us that it was that nice man at the restaurant! And that is what I love about the place, it is one of the bigger hotels in the area, with hugely convenient location, but everyone at the hotel retains a humble nature. It has all the mod cons, but it retains that warmth of a small hotel.
The owner arranged it for us to stay here at a heavily discounted rate, and when we arrived, we were given a complimentary food basket on top of everything else. I just don't think there's a limit to their generosity, it will stay with us as a family for a long, long time...

My mother and I had an amazing stay at the Hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the restaurant was top notch. However, the hospitality shown by all the staff made us feel so welcome. Nirvana and others at the front desk went out of their way to offer helpful tips and even bring us breakfast when we missed it one morning. The restaurant staff greeted us every morning and treated us so warmly we decided to keep going back for dinner. Mr. Kahrain the general manager was available whenever we needed anything and made the atmosphere friendly and truly enjoyable. His kindness was unmatched. Lastly, Mr. Nasser made it possible to extend our stay at the Hotel (because we were enjoying it so much) and, like the others, went out of his way to make sure that our stay was perfect and that we felt welcome and safe. I would absolutely recommend the Hotel, not only for its wonderful location and updated features, but because of the wonderful people who own and work at it.

As for location goes this is a fine hotel in East Jerusalem for its proximity when it comes to visiting religious sites.
Buffet breakfast abundant but then the same everyday is a bit tough on the palate. However, the terrace view on a bright sunny day is lovely.
Rooms: old and needs a bit of attention, bathroom outlets are filthy requiring attention from the housekeeping staff. Beds were clean and comfortable.
The room I stayed in was rather noisy hence would recommend that one choose a room away from the street (windows are not well insulated to limit sounds from the outside).
Point to note: laundry, they do mention of prices on the laundry sheet but then when you pay your asked to pay in USD, when I opted to pay in ILS (local currency) they went into a conversion which costed more than the stipulated laundry charges. So remember prices mentioned on the sheet are not necessarily going to be what you pay for.

Overall experience was good and pleasant no one bothers you, and you can stay in your room at ease.
