“Decent, but a bit distant from Al-Aqsa”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

Decent hotel, clean throughout (apart from ants on our carpet), helpful staff, free wifi was seamless. Hoped for a bit of an authentic local breakfast but was just a buffet spread of toast and various other spreads. Quite a hefty walk to the old city and Al-Aqsa. But it was overall average.

We spent one night in the Mount Scopus Hotel, and it was a lovely, roomy hotel. Fantastic views over Jerusalem. And although it might at first feel a little far away, it is less than 2 minutes from some really great restaurants and a short walk from the old city. The rooms were big. Service came with a smile. I would recommend this hotel, particularly those in groups as they have lots of rooms.

Mount Scopus Hotel is in the middle of the Arab neighborhood called Sheikh Jarrah.
The hotel is clearly very old and has not recently been updated, but it has a very nice lobby with free Wi-Fi and the breakfast there is very large and comes for free with your room. I was served two hard-boiled eggs, multiple types of cheese, 5 pieces of toast, and 4 pieces of some kind of sweet bread.

The rooms have a decent view due to the fact that the hotel is at the bottom of Mount Scopus, but most of what my room overlooked was Modern Jerusalem. The beds have thin mattresses and only a single pillow on each, but if you look in your closet you are likely to find (at least I did ) more pillows if you want them.

We stayed in Mt Scopus hotel. It was comfy and rooms are spacious but well used. Found this hotel to be good value for money if you are looking for clean and spacious accommodation. The breakfast was good there was a variety. We also enjoyed buffet supper there.

This arab run hotel has seen better days but its rooms are just what you need if you indend to be exploring Jerusalem. Bed, shower and airco. The free Wifi in the comforable lobby is a plus. Nice views of the city as well. It serves a good breakfast with toast, salads, yoghurt and cornflakes.

There some shops and a few restaurants nearby in the street 'below' the hotel (Shim'on Ha'tsadik), so if you're tired and just want a bite nearby that's possible too.

This hotel is outside the old city. Walking to Herod's gate (closest) is about 15 minutes. You can also take the Jerusalem Light Rail from Shim'on Ha'tsadik station to the Damascus gate or the city center. Or take a taxi.

Bring earplugs if you stay on a saturday, the neighbourhood can get noisy then.

Rooms were in need of updating. No tea/coffee making facilities. No fridge. Staff not particularly friendly. Breakfast adequate. Shower dreadful. On the positive side, good view over the city and didn't mind the 15-20 minute walk to Damascus Gate.

Stayed here for 3 nights whilst on a group trip. Good views from the rooms and lobby over Jerusalem.
+ 2 computers with internet free of charge for use, free WiFi in the lobby.
The biggest disadvantage is the distance to the old town. It is 15-20min walk to the Damaskus Gate (uphill on the way home). But it felt save walking even late at night. Withhin 5min walking distance (down the hill) there are 3 OK prices european restaurants and 2 late open corner shops/ supermarkets, otherwise nothing around... till you reach the old town.
It was built in the 60' and very little updated, but the rooms were spacious and clean. Most of us had problems adjusting the airconditioning, and the shower didn't provide a lot of water...
No kettle/ tea or coffee in the rooms and the breakfast was basic.
The reception staff was helpful (mostly lounging on the sofas though) and the prices at the tiny bar were similar to the supermarket, which was great.
