Description: An old time dairy bookstore cafe restaurant in the city center, Tmol Shilshom is a popular, kosher culinary and cultural institution favored for its warm ambiance, delicious food, plethora of books and very friendly service. The cafe is well known for its delicious dishes including their famous shakshuka, a favorite amongst tourists, along with the salmon fillet in fig sauce, The Lover Salad and the cheese cake. It is located in a 150-year-old building and hosts readings by Israel's best-known writers. Tmol Shilshom is named after Nobel laureate S.Y. Agnon's novel (translated as "Those Were the Days"). It is open Sunday-Thursday, 8:30 am to 11:30 pm, Friday until before Shabbat and Saturday from after Shabbat.

“Great little cafe in Jerusalem”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

The place is a favourite of mine in Jerusalem. It's tucked away in a trendy neighbourhood, but it's cozy and friendly. The food is great, and uniquely Israeli - make sure to have the Halva for dessert (it's the best I've ever had). A great selection of books to read, live music, and other perks, depending on the day. Try it!

It's a bit hard to find - follow the signs - off Yoel Moshe Salomon, turn left into alley then left behind the storefronts to the end of the alley. Go up the stairs and you're there!

“The location, the menu, the vibe, the atmosphere...”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

...All combine to make this a fun, off-the-beaten-track option for a casual yet sophisticated dining experience in the center of Jerusalem. It's part loft, part book store, part lounge but all about great food and service. Good luck finding it!

“Cool Cafe within a Book Store”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

I had heard this place had great food and great Hot Chocolate so I went in search for it. It is hard to find as it is on the second floor but the entrance is further down the block through and alley past a nightclub. It is up a flight of stairs. The atmosphere is really neat and you are surrounded by books. The Service is friendly and the food is excellent. Hot chocolate is not the best. Service was fairly good and they have an expansive menu. I had the soup which was great, my friend had the Sweet potato ravioli which she said were excellent and another friend had a mushroom sandwich.

Would definitely go back there the next time I come

“Toooooo expensive”
Reviewed 20 October 2013 via mobile

This is a great place in a wonderful location at jerusalem city center. Its an itimate caffe, with smoking and non smoking areas outside and inside. Great for intimate meetings. Intellectual vibe. I wouldve given it five stars if not for the prices which are 20% precent higher than most other caffes, which are already overpriced in israel. Wont go there again just for that. 16 shekels (4.5$) for a cup of latte is a bit rude.

“Chill”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

This hard to find cafe, restaurant bookstore can be found through an alley off of Yoel Solomon street in central Jerusalem. This place is perfect for soup, salad, pasta, coffee or just to hang out in the backroom bookstore. Great atmosphere and super friendly service which is pretty rare in Israel was in abundance here. The food was good and the place was populated by a combination of middle aged locals, students and few tourists. It was also reasonably priced for this neighborhood. The soup sampler is really recommended.
