Description: An old time dairy bookstore cafe restaurant in the city center, Tmol Shilshom is a popular, kosher culinary and cultural institution favored for its warm ambiance, delicious food, plethora of books and very friendly service. The cafe is well known for its delicious dishes including their famous shakshuka, a favorite amongst tourists, along with the salmon fillet in fig sauce, The Lover Salad and the cheese cake. It is located in a 150-year-old building and hosts readings by Israel's best-known writers. Tmol Shilshom is named after Nobel laureate S.Y. Agnon's novel (translated as "Those Were the Days"). It is open Sunday-Thursday, 8:30 am to 11:30 pm, Friday until before Shabbat and Saturday from after Shabbat.

the restaurant is just slightly off the main street in some kind of alley, but it's really no biggie to find. my friends and i had the various shakshukas and they were all delicious. we would have tried the desserts and other dishes, but it was quite filling, what with the bread and accompanying salad. in all, a satisfying meal. pleasant ambience with the restaurant humbly sized and decorated with shelves of books. cozy and warm - perfect for a small evening get-together.

came here again unexpectedly two days bringing along some newly made friends, trusting that it would live up to the first visit - and it didn't disappoint either. service was also impeccable. splendid experiences in all. keep it up!

Looking for somewhere for breakfast/early lunch about 1100, before driving to the airport, and stopped in here.

We sat outside in the last of the sunshine, and had the Shakshuka as recommended. Both the location and the food were first class, and I will be going back again. A great job all-round.

This cafe-restaurant can be found at the top of some stairs in a quiet side street of one of the busiest nightlife areas of Jerusalem. It has a small outside seating area but inside is the charming warm cozyness of a living room. Its walls are lined with books which can be read and bought. The atmosphere is special and the service is very friendly. The food of chef Sylvio is excellent, with a choice of fish and dairy/pasta, sandwiches, soups etc. (kosher so no meat here). I loved the smoked trout salad and the tasting dish of three soups, and also memorable was the home made plum tart desert. Warmly recommended.

The place is a favourite of mine in Jerusalem. It's tucked away in a trendy neighbourhood, but it's cozy and friendly. The food is great, and uniquely Israeli - make sure to have the Halva for dessert (it's the best I've ever had). A great selection of books to read, live music, and other perks, depending on the day. Try it!

It's a bit hard to find - follow the signs - off Yoel Moshe Salomon, turn left into alley then left behind the storefronts to the end of the alley. Go up the stairs and you're there!

...All combine to make this a fun, off-the-beaten-track option for a casual yet sophisticated dining experience in the center of Jerusalem. It's part loft, part book store, part lounge but all about great food and service. Good luck finding it!
