Description: An old time dairy bookstore cafe restaurant in the city center, Tmol Shilshom is a popular, kosher culinary and cultural institution favored for its warm ambiance, delicious food, plethora of books and very friendly service. The cafe is well known for its delicious dishes including their famous shakshuka, a favorite amongst tourists, along with the salmon fillet in fig sauce, The Lover Salad and the cheese cake. It is located in a 150-year-old building and hosts readings by Israel's best-known writers. Tmol Shilshom is named after Nobel laureate S.Y. Agnon's novel (translated as "Those Were the Days"). It is open Sunday-Thursday, 8:30 am to 11:30 pm, Friday until before Shabbat and Saturday from after Shabbat.

“A very pleasant, alternative corner”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

It is located inside an old house with courtyards in the centre of Jerusalem so it may take a couple of minutes to find it (keep asking). However, it is really worth while. It is a cosy, nicely decorated place with both indoor and outdoor tables and it has a romantic, old-fashioned atmosphere. The quality of the food is very good and it includes traditional dishes along with more "usual" ones. All that we tried was good, desserts included. I recommend going there.

“Delicious and intellectual”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

Although this café is somewhat difficult to find if you are tourists as we were (you access it not from the street, but from the back alley went), it is well worth persisting in your search. The food is vegetarian and delicious. I am not a fan of Borscht soup, but the beet soup they served at Tmol Shilshom changed my mind. Our teenage daughter was equally enchanted with the sweet potato ravioli, and my husband with a tasty vegetarian stew on bulgur. Most of all we were delighted with the atmosphere (no music, but lively talk) and the friendly and efficient service. An added bonus: the owner, David Ehrlich, who is a writer, let us peruse one of his books while we were waiting for the food. We hope to come to Jerusalem again and will certainly return to this restaurant.

“Charming atmospher/ great food”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

This restaurant is located in a quiet side alley way in the center of town.

Filled with books and old wooden furniture, it is a perfect place to unwind. The menu has interesting vegan and gluten free options, service is attentive and friendly, and the food very good. Coffee is excellent too.

There is also a private room that makes it a great choice for groups. Literary events are often held here.

My husband, an Israeli tour guide who is familiar with lots of places, and I consider this place a little gem. Make sure to check it out- you'll be very happy you did.

Please note though that it is not wheel chair accessible.

“A Hidden Jewel - Worth Finding!”
Reviewed 28 February 2014

T'Mol Shilshom is not a secret for Jerusalemites, but it might be challenging for tourists to find. Make the effort. This is a lovely bookstore, cafe, restaurant in a quaint old Jerusalem building. Go for coffee, go for lunch, go for dinner, just go! You'll have trouble deciding on what to eat. Try the T'Mol Shilshom tea - it's memorable. Wi-fi is complimentary - ask for the code. Service is friendly and efficient. Everyone speaks English. This restaurant is kosher.

“Romantic small coffee shop and bookstore”
Reviewed 27 February 2014 via mobile

I know this wonderful place since my days as a student, although nothing has changed and only good memories I have , it is still a great place to grab a coffee or to sit with a beer and a fine book,
