“What a place!”

I found a jewel in the center of Tel Aviv. An amazing artist who painted in humor. He also built the smallest movie theater and all the equipment by himself. A very exciting life story of a couple that saved hundreds of people and were very humble. It is a must place to visit in Tel Aviv.

“Moving and Unique: A must visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2013

I lack the words to express what I felt while sitting in this two rooms apartment that was the studio of this genius and exceptional man and listening to his two daughters telling his story. Joseph Bau, born in Poland, was an artist, an inventor but most of all a hero who used his talent to save his fellow Jewish from the Plazow concentration camp inmates during the Holocaust.
He had a talent for forgery, so he forged documents to help the resistance against the Nazis, at the same time while the Nazis where employing him to illustrate their maps. His unique personality allowed him to survive the horrors of the Nazis concentration camps and support others in the camp. He invented a game cards that he used to dissuade inmates from committing suicide. His weapon was humor. He wrote poetry and he even fell in love and get married in the camp.
I was moved and amazed by his creativity. In Israel he wanted to do
cartoons, so he did. He built by his own hands the machine to create his cartoons and even the cinema to project them. He used parts from sewing or medical machines... Talking about multitasks and multidisciplinary … He even forged documents for the Mossad.
He had a rich philosophy in life the most predominant, as I see it, was "Laugh and make Laugh"

Sweetest place with funny paintings and amazing life story of this artist who survived the holocaust thanks to his art and then worked for Israeli security forced. Lovely place, enjoyable for both adults and kids. I've been there with my family and friends and we all had a great time, even bought paintings and his book.
