“Manager Jeremy, very helpful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2013

My husband and I arrived at the hotel at 8:30 a.m. after a long overnight flight. We were very pleasantly surprised to be let into our room immediately! I was expecting that they would hold our bags and we would have to wait until noon time if not later. The location of the hotel is excellent and the rooftop pool is a dream (when in the pool and looking out at the ocean it feels as if you are on a cruise ship.) The Israeli buffet breakfast was one of the best I have ever had, in addition to all the salads, omelet station, fresh breads and pastries, they even had a self-serve frozen yogurt machine! I particularly would like to compliment the manager Jeremy. Our first room had to be switched after the first night, as it was on a smoking floor, had an awful view from the balcony and the lighting was either all on or all off ( not allowing for one light to be left on to read by as the other person slept). Our second room had a lovely view but after a few hours we realized that the air conditioning was not cooling off sufficiently. Not only did two engineers immediately come up to try to fix it, but Jeremy, realizing we were the same people who had a problem the night before came up to our room too. He offered to switch our room again, but ultimately the air conditioning was fixed. Jeremy treated us to drinks at the bar for our inconvenience. Wifi is very expensive at this hotel. I knew about it from reading another Trip Advisor review and we brought our own Mifi device. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay here.

We stayed at the Carlton for the first two nights of our trip to Israel and really enjoyed it. First, it is one of a few hotel that are actually the beach. Many beach hotels in Tel Aviv are actually across Yarkon Street from the beach. The room was kind of small, but clean and well appointed with an amazing view of the sea over the marina and a balcony. The layout of the lobby and each floor give the feel of a smaller hotel, without long hallways of rooms. We thought the pool on the roof would be a scene, but it was really lovely and relaxing with an incredible view in all directions.

So why not Excellent? Maybe we am being too picky, but it was because of the charge for WIFI. Really??? So far this is the only hotel of the several in which we have stayed in Israel on this trip that doesn't include WIFI. In fact, we had to pay for each device each day we were there. I know this used to be a standard charge several years ago, but not now.

I really hope that the hotel adresses this issue quickly. We will be staying there again next week on our last night in Israel and I'd be happy to revise this review to Excellent.

Room Tip: Face the water, or ask for a room facing south on a high floor.

Dear Phil W,
Thank you for your review and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. Our WiFi is provided by an outside supplier and our charges are lower than in many hotels in the surrounding area but we have passed on your remarks on this topic to the management team. We sincerely hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel on your future trips to Tel Aviv.

The Carlton hotel has many good aspects however it is definitely lacking in some departments.
I'll start off with the good parts. First of all it probably has the best location out of all the beaches along the Tel Aviv boardwalk. It is equidistant from both the Tel Aviv port and the restaurants and shops in the direction of Jaffa as well as the Ben Gurion and Dizengoff streets. The rooms were very comfortable and had a great view of the entire boardwalk in both directions and the marina. The breakfast was probably one of the best breakfasts we've ever had at a hotel. It had a wide variety of food and it was very tasty. Finally, the pool area was beautiful and had great panoramic views.
Although all of these things made our trip very enjoyable, there were a few flaws that they must fix. First off there was no free wifi. The wifi was extremely expensive and when you are paying top dollar to stay at a very high end hotel they should give you free wifi, even if its just in the lobby. Next, the housekeeping staff didn't always listen to the do not disturb signs and when we walked into our room we found two housekeepers standing there talking to each other.
All in all it was a good hotel and we would go back and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: if you need two rooms make sure to get an adjoining, it has one main door and then you can leave bot...

There is no doubt that the hotel is really great. Moreover if I compare the location and direction of rooms with Hilton which is next to the Carlton, the Carlton wins.
Stayed on the Royal floor (11th and up), rooms are small, but cozy.
Definitely you have to try the rooftop pool. Unfortunately the opening hours are ony from 7am to 7pm, so you cannot enjoy the evening at the pool. Right in front of hotel is beach. It is prohibited to swim there (dedicated to water sports), but most of people do not care about that, so feel free to go there.
The breakfast is served at the facility on the beach.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with direct sea view. It is worth it.

I only spent a night here while on a business trip, but the short experience was very positive. The staff were friendly and efficient, my room was comfortable and quiet, bathroom well stocked and I had a nice view of the sea. Would stay again.

My family did a 12 day trip to Israel which culminated in a four night stay in Tel Aviv to relax before getting back to the real world. We had previously stayed at the Dan Tel Aviv and loved it a few years ago and were assured that the Carlton would meet the high expectations that the Dan set. Unfortunately, it did not. While the staff, specifically the general manager, was quite nice and accommodating, things never went quite right. Every step of the way where there was a bump the manager offerred to fix it with free drinks, free spa services, free internet etc. While these were nice perks, at the end of the day, I'd rather get what I pay for, rather than being offerred free services to make up for the standard amenities that were missing.
A main plus is its close proximity to the harbor. We had wonderful dinners on the water and nice strolls back each evening.
I will say, despite the negative taste in my mouth, this is still a much nicer hotel than some of the older resorts on the Tel aviv promenade. They have gone through a major renovation and the rooms are certainly more updated than other hotels in similar price brackets. I cautiously recommend this hotel, and I assume it will run much smoother as the renovation project comes to a close. Additionally, since many of the other reviews are so positive, we may have just experienced an off moment.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the nicer the view!
