I have been here many times. Its usually simple and fantastic sushi. This last time i was there, it was fantastic. The Rice was perfect, the fish was fresh. The handroll was crispy. I cant say anything was sub great. The issue is, i was here a couple months ago and the sushi was rather bad, so i hope they are back at the highest level.
We had the tuna tataki to start. It was AMAZING!! The tuna was super fresh and full of flavor. My guests didnt understand how it staed so good. They said "this does not taste like tuna". It was reminiscent of a steak. That is what great tuna is supposed to taste like, without any fish flavor. Good tuna is very hard to find, especially in israel. Take a look at the photo.
The macki was great. They keep it pretty simple with the combinations. The hand rolls was amazing. Symmetry was right on and they got to us while the nuri was still crispy, thats how a hand roll should be served. BTW, if you want a quick measure of a sushi joint, thumbs up or down, the hand roll will do it. A good handroll will tell you the following.
1. good symmetry and rice content: means the sushi man is a master. has to make the cone free hand so he needs to be very experienced. You cant wing it here as there are no tools to fix the symmetry or add or take away rice. its one shot.
2. Crispy at your plate: The hand roll needs to reach you while its still crispy. The seaweed takes about 60 seconds to get chewy from the moment its in contact with the open air. So if you get yours crispy (the only way to have it) you know it was made about 30 seconds ago.
Service was great. As i mentioned with the hand roll, if the service is not great, you will not get your hand roll crispy.
Price was a bit high. We paid 600 ILS for three of us sushi and 4 beers.
