“I had a bad time!”
Reviewed 12 February 2013

This hostel is quite bad! the cleaning ladies never actually "clean", and the hostel is extremely dirty. Especially the showers! it is REALLY REALLY dirty! The showers are grey of dirt! It was quite difficult for me going to shower because I didn't want to get dirtier! The rooms are dirty and old, gloomy and quite dark! It was really weird because there was a family that "lived" in the hostel but the kids (a boy and a girl, both very young), were young brats, and kept screaming and throwing things in the main room. It was really annoying and their mother didn't say anything, so it kept going...
However, the hostel is very well situated (in the city centre so it's cool because you can go almost everywhere on your own by foot), you have a lot of shops, nice markets and touristic sites close by. The prices are also very low. I paid very little money for 4 nights and I was very warmly welcomed in this hostel. The manager is really nice and always ready to help you (to translate things, to indicate what to do, where, how....). The hostel also organizes a lot of little trips quite cheap (to the castles in the desert, to Jerash and Ajlun). So it's cool. It costs around 20€ for a daytrip to the castles in the desert and the car waits for you so it's cheap and good!
Furthermore, I paid cheap for a one-bed room and I ended up with a 2 beds room + huge balcony so it was really cool and nice!
So this hostel is half bad, half good!

We stayed here for a six days during our trip to Amman before we head south to Petra and then to Israel. Location is definitely the strong point for this place. Its right in downtown, so it allows us to stroll around markets and look for cheap eats after we finish with the day trips. Plus the staff are pretty friendly.

The rooms are not too bad, worn out carpets and furniture, but acceptably clean. Beds are comfy enough. But the first room they gave us doesn't have a working TV, a working A/C (at least the fan works), and the lock on the door doesn't really work. We told them the next day and they moved us to another room pretty fast, so that's cool. If you are a light sleeper you might want a room that doesn't face the streets or bring ear plugs. IT IS downtown with heavy traffic, so its pretty noisy even with the windows closed, and it doesn't die down until 1am. Plus its 2 blocks away from the mosque, so the morning prayer call (around 04:45am?) might wake you up. And hot water isn't available all the time, half the time I have to take cold showers. And there were a couple of times when there is no water at all.

Breakfast is nothing to brag about, just a few pieces of flatbread, jam, one hard boiled egg, and a bit of cheese. Plus your choice of coffee or tea. Its not gonna amaze you but it will fill you up.

And they have a pretty good free Wi-Fi connection most of the time. If that fails, there's always the computer in the lobby that you can use for free.

They also offer day tours, we took the one to Mt Nebo/baptism site/dead sea, and its pretty good, we enjoyed it.

The double rooms cost us 35JD/night, which isn't much but you don't really get much either. I am sure you can get something better with that money but it might not have the convenience of being in downtown.

I stayed here for 4 days during a backpacking trip before a journey to Iran. I found the hotel from lonely planet book that I bought before the trip. Generally, what I need was only a room to put my bag, having shower, and rest. Because most of the time I was away visiting tourist spots around Amman; roman amphitheater, Umayyad mosque, Hercules temple ruins, and also the hotel is in walking distance from Malik hussein mosque.

The hotel is basically dirt cheap (11 JOD for room with shared bathroom). Bathroom is very standard and decent cleanliness. Room is not squeaky clean but enough for having decent rest. Room is also not very spacious.

Breakfast is very simple with boiled egg and bread plus jam with tea). What I like from this hotel is its locations (In city center hustle and bustle zone), and also the fact that they organized tours (with good value for money). You could choose from Madaba, Medieval castles around Amman, Baptism site/Mt. Nebo, dead sea, etc. I went to Madaba city, a medieval mosaic site and church, also baptism site plus dead sea visit arranged by the hotel with a very good price compared to other place. The driver arranged from hotel is also speaks decent English and reliable. You will meet other travelers in this trip and those I met still in touch with me after all this years.

The lady at receptionist (Mrs. Fatma) is very helpful and keen for being a translator to the drivers of Amman taxis I ride during my visit. Hotel has a decent internet cafe with cheap price. It also very near to resto/cafes where the local actually eats.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel for anyone doing budget traveling and looking for a value for money. I would stay here if I ever visit Jordan again in the future.

Room Tip: Every rooms looks same to me. Ask for private bathroom if you can.

This is a backpacker hotel, so do not expect luxury. But it is very conveniently located, the staff is helpful and efficient and the breakfast is OK. If you are going to Madaba they have a hotel there for the same price, transport included, which is a really fantastic deal.

Room Tip: Spend a bit extra and get private bathroom.

The rooms where dirty and the showers and toilets where even worse, they overcharged me the first night, probably they gave some money to the cab driver who drove me there. ( even though i choose the hotel my self) Two of the guys who was working there was very nice and helpful, the third guy didnt seem to interested in his job ....... or maybe he just didnt like. And one more thing, whatever you do. Dont let them laundrey your clothes, when i got them back they were still dirty ... i couldnt even use them before doing another laundrey.

Location is great- down town Amman (Ballad)

Staff try thier best to help you.

WiFi was poor, not until 4AM which I have able to access Internet- seems like no one is using by that time.

Room was way bellow my expectation, it was old and looks dirty and aircondition cannot keep the room cold. Good thing is the bed linen are OK.

Hard boiled egg and kubous (arabic bread) for breakfast + coffee.

Overall, you will get what you pay... maybe less!

Room Tip: OK if you are in a budget, and looking only for a place to spent the night

Great location, you can walk to the roman theatre and citedal.

Hotel very basic and not that clean. Some staff at reception were really helpful and others not so much.

I couldn't book any tours with them as there were never enough people, which probably worked out better in the long run as its much cheaper going with local buses.
