“inexpensive, clean and convenient”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2011

Cheap, clean and convenient with friendly helpful staff. It is convenient for the airport, 25 mins, has the mosaic church within walking distance, Mount Nebo 10 min drive, Dead Sea, dependant on the resort or beach is 45 mins or so and Jerash about 90 mins so all good day trips. Rooms are basically furnished but clean and comfortable. There are only a dozen or so sunbeds by the pool but then this is not a hotel for pool and sunbathing and what it is there for is most welcoming, a cool dip at the end of a days sightseeing. Buffet breakfast, not too good so we didn’t eat at the hotel in the evening. Madaba centre is only a safe 10/15 mins walk and there are several restaurants to choose from and a couple of kebab and pizza takeaways if that’s what you fancy. And even a bar in town if you want a beer, or beer and wine from the shop directly opposite the hotel. The hotel does not serve alcohol. Internet in the hotel but there is also an internet cafe 100 metres down the road turning left out of the hotel. A good town Madaba, it had an easy feel to it as a base if you don’t want to stay in Amman and have city driving every day.

The staff is very friendly and the restaurant on the top is not too bad, but that is about all there is to this hotel. The rooms are not particularly nice and noise travel quite well. We stayed here on our first and last day of our trip as it was easy to arrange taxis to the airport, which all worked very well. However, I am sure there must be much better out there for 40JD.

We stayed 3 nights in total at the Miriam and had a comfortable stay. The guidebooks really build up this place and emphasize the friendly customer service from the owner. However, the hotel has grown in size, the owner was no where to be seen and the service was good, but not amazing! On our first 2 nights we had a room in the new addition to the hotel. I quite liked that room, clean and modern, however outside noise was still a problem. On our return to Madaba, we had a room for one night in the old part of the building. This room was not quite as comfortable - we had an old bathroom, floors had the odd cracks and noise was once again an issue. Breakfasts at the Miriam were very good. Taking into account the price of the rooms and the location of the hotel, the Miriam is still a good choice for the area. There is free wifi, a swimming pool and a very resonable priced restaurant. Just don't expect too much if you have read the Rough Guide or Lonely Planet reviews.

A great base for the journey since it is closer to all the main sights than Amman, but the staff forgot to give me wake up call (twice!), luckily I have my alarm clock with me :D

Hotel is busy with French & Spanish tourists, advance booking is recommended.

We found Mariam hotel to be a warm, comfortable, and welcoming hotel. When you enter the hotel, there is a very nice communal sitting area. There are 2 computers with internet (1 JD per hour). The staff was also very nice and polite and did everything to help us. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was sparkling. What we enjoyed most was the quiet neighbourhood, the great breakfast, and the efficient way of working. You can clearly see this is a well-run hotel which has as its goal to make people feel comfortable: what else does one look for in a hotel!? A perfect place to use as a basis from which to explore the northern part of Jordan.

We really enjoy our stay (3 nights). Clean, good beds, safe in the room, swimming pool, good breakfast with many choices. Very friendly staff. Very good taxi service at the reception ( really not expensive and very good drivers). Highly recommended!

The Mariam Hotel in Madaba was our first stop after arriving in Amman -- and it's definitely a good idea to stay somewhere besides Amman your first night if you've never been to Jordan. The people at the Mariam are endlessly helpful, kind, and honest. The breakfasts in the rooftop restaurant were the best we had during our entire trip! Especially the coffee. Their driver will fetch you from the airport for only 14 JD. We ended up having him drive us all over Jordan, the Dead Sea, Ajloun, Wadi Rum, and finally to Petra. He even taught my son how to tie a keffiyeh. Our triple room was plenty big enough for me and my two 20-something kids. We also found the best prices in Madaba for Jordanian things, much better than Petra (and also Jerusalem, where we ended our trip). Ask the owner of the Mariam to steer you to the store in town owned by the guy whose niece was on Ab Fab.
