Arrived during eid holidays to this "palace and spa. "

Check in was fast and smooth although a marching band came a long in the middle and played music which made it impossible to communicate. Proceeded to room via buggy. Room is in need of rennovation.

Went for lunch at their rimal restaurant. which was a buffet which had a decent albeit small selection. The food was okay. Service was sub par. Was charged twice. I paid by cash at the restaurant and they charged the room again and have yet to refund the money (BHD 40 approximately).

You should know that everything is overpriced and on top of that they add 15% service charge and 5% government levy. Hashbrowns are some 3.5BHD for example. Thats over 10$ for hashbrowns with fees. This wouldnt be bad if they actually were amazing or if the service was any good.

The rooms were spacious but worn and dated. The couches looked like they have been stampled with black shoes and chewn by a dog or used as a scratching post by a cat. The lights for the pool wouldnt work and they brought a spotlight to use at night. This would cause a fuse and the bathroom lights would go out and I had to go to the fuse box a couple of times to remedy the situation. The air conditioner blows cold air then hot humid air. I didn't get what it was doing and I had to keep adjusting it. The mini fridge contained nothing but they gave us a few cokes complimentary the first time and some water the first time as well.

The bathroom drain would expel soap which leaves next to the jacuzzzi and spills into it. The shower has a door inside of it that leads to an outside shower. Moths and small lizards made it into the indoor shower from this door. Tje water has a dusty smell. The towels have stains.

The pool and jacuzzi have bird feathers in them and ants and crickets and bird droppings floating about. A pigeon even took a bath in the watrr filtration system of the pool. The cleaners came a few times (on request) and still was dirty after. You have to have it cleaned frequently to even use it. It seems like they haven't drained and refilled the water in ages.

Ants, moths, crickets, pigeons etc.. Are all about. And bird droppings are around and inside the pool and jacuzzi. They need pest control and to do what dubai does and have a falcon fly about to take care of their pigeon problem.

The service... You have to call them 5 times to get anything done. The workers are hard to communicate with some of them and I speak 3 languages. Some of the staff are impolite and clueless.

I would not stay here again. It's a shame because it has a lot of potential, but it's obvious the management dont know what they are the doing. The driver of the transport service from the airport to the hotel even said that it was better when it was banyan tree and not al areen. He was probably right but I'll never know.

The only reason I gave this a 2 is because it has potential if they renovate and get their act together. Maybe this means new management.

I cannot recommend this place in its current state.

Check in was quick and polite. Room was spacious and clean. Really loved the pool and jacuzzi which is the reason for booking this hotel. Room service menu extensive. Buffet breakfast was good and chefs very friendly. Tried Asian restaurant - nice food and good service. Tried couples massage Swedish it was nice but not amazing. The garden and open areas of the hotel could be spruced up a little it's seen better days.

Disappointed with two things:- we had asked for medicine container (diabetes injection) to be stored in the freezer and upon check in they seemed to understand this and confirmed it would be frozen. When checking out it was only cold and not frozen, therefore not stored correctly and this meant the vials of medicine were ruined.

Credit card deposit taken on checkin (150BD) pretty standard stuff but upon checkout reception said that it would take maximum 2 weeks to put money back on the card. This is a ridiculous amount of time to be put wait.

I'm not sure I would stay at this hotel again.

We stayed for one day, the process of checking in/out need to be expedited. The villa is very large for tow people, pool with reasonable size. The room is out dated a bit & need more cleaning. The price is a bit expensive. Breakfast was Ok, overall very nice hotel but they need to take care of cleaning and service and pay more attention to them.

We stayed at Al Areen for 2 nights during Ramadan. We had been thinking about treating ourselves to a stay there for a while so when we found a special promotion on booking.com we decided to go for it. We were looking for just peace, quiet and complete relaxation for a couple of nights.

We arrived and our check in was dealt with smoothly by Johanna on reception who was very helpful. She explained about the spa and breakfast etc. Being Ramadan we asked if food was still being served etc and she said breakfast would be in Senses and there was a list of those dining.

We took a golf buggy to the villa and it immediately became apparent that the resort had maybe seen better days. We went through an underpass where there appeared to be old, discarded kitchen equipment just left outside - not what you expect to see at a world class hotel. There were fountains in the main courtyard and garden area but these were not working and dirt/dust had built up in the ponds.

We arrived at our villa and were shown around. The villa was nice but again, there were just little things that you wouldn't expect at a resort like this: the wallpaper was peeling in the outside seating area, there was a large stain on the sofa, the varnish from the wooden windows was splashed onto the glass, there were water stains in the bottom of the bath tub, some of the bulbs in the outdoor lighting round the pool were not working, some of the outdoor furniture was very wethered, the floor seemed to be lifting in the dressing area. Nothing was a huge problem but you just expect a little more 'TLC' of the surroundings when you are paying Al Areen prices.

We did enjoy our first day though, the pool was lovely and we had a relaxing evening.

The next morning we got up and ordered a cart to breakfast - this is where it all started to go wrong. We arrived at Senses and there was nobody there. We waited and waited, eventually my husband had to go to the kitchen to find someone! We asked which breakfast was included in our room rate and she wasn't sure. We asked to see who was in charge but nobody was on shift at that time!! Eventually the lady found a colleague who explained what was included and we ordered. We then waited approx half an hour for a coffee and still no food!! Still no staff so we had to again go out the back to find someone and find out what exactly was going on. Eventually they bought a bread and pastry basket that was clearly some kind of leftovers, it was stale and unappetising to say the least. By then we'd had enough and again asked to see someone who was in charge. We were hungry, exhausted by running the breakfast gauntlet and quite frankly we'd had enough. It was clear they hadn't been expecting anyone for breakfast when they should have been. As still nobody in management had made an appearance we again spoke to Johanna and were then told that we could have had it in our room as it was Ramadan - news to us! We were fed up and asked that the rest of the breakfast be sent to our room. Eventually we ate at around 11am, we went for breakfast at 9. The breakfast that arrived was actually not bad but we were over it by that time.

We later spoke to the section manager who came to our room while the breakfast was being cleared away, a nice touch as we hadn't actually asked him to come. He was very apologetic and gave us complimentary fruit and a snack platter. He was professional, understanding and courteous and offered us a complimentary lunch which we were grateful for. There had clearly been some kind of mess up at breakfast which they acknowledged which we respected. Later we ordered room service and the food was actually delicious.

The next morning breakfast arrived in our room, as expected and was very tasty.

Al Areen did manage to redeem themselves after initially annoying us a lot, we had come to relax and didn't need a headache when trying to eat.

Breakfast aside, we did enjoy our stay however they really do need to give the place (and possibly their organisational skills) a brush up to really justify their 5 star rating and their 5 star prices.

I was torn between rating Al Areen a 3 or 4, I actually felt 3.5 was fair but opted for 3 as it is expensive and you do expect everything to be 'just so' and it was more 'not quite'.

It was unhappy weekend, I will never rate this resort more than 3 stars.
the tragedy started when we arrived to the resort in the time of the check in, they let us wait and wait and wait for more that 90 min to let us go to our villa, although we came after 3:00 p.m ( after the check in time ) they left us wait in the lobby and it was so crowded there was no seats available, without offering us in this waiting time any refreshment. when we arrived after 5 to the villa, we asked them for towels, because they forgot to put towels after they cleaned in time of our check in, we wait and wait so we called them again after 30 min they told us coming, we wait until 8 PM with no towels in this duration we called them like 5 time and every time they promised they are coming, and this tragedy is repeated every time we call the customer service, moreover the buggy takes 45 min to come to take us , while it should take max of 5 min to our villa .

We booked the 2 bedrooms villa, I went with my wife and kids (14, 6 and 5 years old) I was really surprised the 2 bedrooms villa was in real life 2 separate villas rounded with outer fence , so it was not suitable to family with small kids they are really far from my bedroom one of my picture showing how far it is. kids could not come at night because it was very dark and scary.

At night, we could not have a good sleep and your night was terrible, the air condition was miserable some time really hot and humid and suddenly become really cold my kids got sick because of this matter, they feel hot and the kicked out the covers and suddenly becomes really cold. we spoke to management regarding this issue many times with no luck as usual.

problems :
Overpriced, comparing with the quality of the place and service
they still use some banyan tree ( the old owner of this resort dishes, towels (

etc.) .... wake up you are now Al Areen NOT Banyan Tree anymore.
no activities like other resorts.
average breakfast , not variety.
Need a real real update and renovate.
a lot of maintenance needs and deep cleaning
jacuzzi and pool was dirty and disgusting .
bathrooms smells horrible and disgusting .
bugs bugs bugs and lizards
drawers in the cabinet without a holder
curtains are damaged
coffee machines not working
Broken bricks and ceramic pieces inside the pool and the bathrooms
not taking care of the planets

I will NOT go there again and i not recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: I am not sure if they have a good room

The positives:
The privacy of the villas is unrivaled! The facilities in each vila are incredible (Pool, Jacuzi, large bath, outdoor and indoor shower, glass doors, comfortable bed ...etc). It truly allows you to unplug! Furthermore, the staff were friendly and the food was good.
Most of the positives comes from the resort's idea and the design and facilities of the villas.

The Negatives:
Most of the negatives are from its operation and maintenance.
They have a problem with check-in and check-out. We waited for around 90 minutes for our villa to be ready despite arriving one hour AFTER the posted check-in time. They claim that other guests check-out late, but our check-out experience suggested that they are not managing manpower properly during checkout time as it took over 40 minutes for the buggy to arrive to the villa to take our luggage.
Also, you can tell that the resort is not what it used to be as maintenance is poor. Some pool tiles are missing, the vila's external paint is cracked, the door knobs are fully rusted, the poor condition of the outer wooden doors makes it look more like barn doors, the shower's glass shelves are chipped, and the sofa fabric is torn.

In terms of cleanliness, it was mostly clean, except for the the cigarette ash we found on the sofa's back rest. The carpets also look 30 years old so it's hard to imagine them as being clean.

The staff, although very friendly, you have to call them several times to get what you want. When we asked for a crib at around 19:00, it took 3 more calls until it finally arrived at 21:15. When we asked for an adapter, it never arrived.

Simply, this place is running on the majesty of its past, but is obviously declining.

Issues:
• Need a lot of maintenance
• Dirty and old
• Safety issues ( see photos)
• Terrible service

The Photos will explain more than words what I been through during my stay. It is really not worth paying an expensive amount of money for such an old place.

• This is how the drawers in the cabinet look like without a holder

• The bath in the toilet is really horrible and disgusting

• All the curtains are damaged and ripped from the top and even the wall papers

• The villa door is damaged as well and you cannot close it. All bugs and lizards come through as the rubber is shredded from one side shown below

It’s truly un safe for adults and children inside and outside the villa.
• The ceramic step in the shower door in movable and any one can got injured but thanks god we’ve been careful.
• The pipe cover in the outdoor pool is open. Anyone could have been injured as the pipe hole is deep and you could have a broken leg because of that.
• Broken ceramic pieced inside the pool
• Outdoor ground ceramic is open

• the big surprise is when I asked the housekeeping to bring me a laundry bag for our wet clothes they brought me a black trash bags and when I was upset about it they brought me a stolen DOLCE & GABBA bag. ( I’ll leave the comment for you  )

• At night, we could not have a good sleep and our night was terrible because we saw a very big lizard coming out from this door and then disappeared. The sliding door is open to the garden from inside which makes it a good entry for all the bugs and lizards to visit you 

• The lights in the outdoor are homes for the birds and pigeons

• Fallen glasses all around the trees which is so dangerous if you have kids playing.

• The ‘Do not Disturb” and the other options in this panel are not working at all

• More pics to show how dirty the place is.

Finally, I would not ever visit Alareen again in the future and I wouldn’t encourage anyone to do so. The amount of money that you will pay in Alareen you can pay it in the best 5 stars resorts at anywhere else. I really recommend to Alareen management and staff to look into these issues urgently and fix all the above issues, and develop the place into a real 5 stars resort.
