Melal Apartment Hotel in Tehran has been my beloved home away from home in Iran over many months the past few years. Best hotel staff ever, spacious rooms with funny kitsch furniture gives a homely old fashioned feel and I just love the view of the mountains.
The rooms on the Naaseri Road side offer better ambience and view than the rooms facing the back that overlook an office building. Limited and typical Iranian menu for in-room dining (kebab, hamburger or spaghetti) salads pre-drenched with dressing. The hotel happily assists with home delivery from nearby restaurants and puts the bill on your tab, the slightly pricy Golden Dragon is my favorite Chinese takeout. A roof top restaurant is open in the summer but food is average, ambience is zero and does not offer good value for money. Hotel drivers are friendly and efficient when picking you up from the airport but the general standard of the cars is low. Taxis to anywhere can be prepaid by the reception and when arriving by taxi the hotel can pay the driver and put the expense on the room bill which makes life very easy. Breakfast is a good buffet for Iranian standard and the breakfast room is nice with a view of the garden and small often drained swimming pool. Background music in the breakfast room offers endless entertainment and always makes me wonder where they have found it, There is a small gym area and a sauna but I have never seen anyone use those facilities including the small pool in the garden.
Melal staff are excellent and do their best to make you feel at home, in 30 years of business travel around the world I can safely say they are in the top of the league.
