“Fine hotel, but not five-star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2010

I'll start off by saying that my experience at the JW Marriott Kuwait was not bad, but my "average" rating of the experience is based on the fact that it's supposed to be a five-star hotel.

The hotel itself looked and felt like something out of the 1980s. The rooms were clean and spacious, but the decor left a lot to be desired. High-speed internet access was available, but only in wired form in the rooms. A business-oriented hotel should be equipped with wireless high-speed internet in guest rooms (wireless was available in public spaces).

Also, for the first few days of my stay, my non-smoking room smelled like cigarette smoke. I don't know if it was the previous guest or the HVAC system, but it was really only until I turned off the A/C that the smell left. The cigarette smoke continued in the lobby of the building, where smoking was very much encouraged.

The service, in general, was very good. Some of the staff was very prompt and courteous, others were less professional, though they all tried to be accommodating.

The restaurants were subpar for this level of a hotel - average food at expensive prices. The breakfast at the main hotel restaurant was the best part of it, followed by the Japanese restaurant for lunch. The service for the room service was good, but the selection of food was small.

Overall, it is a decent hotel - a pretty good three-star business hotel, but not worthy of the JW Marriott brand.

A very classy hotel with a lot of character. Very good staff and food. Would have preferred a location closer to the city. But a good place to stay.

This was my second time to stay at this hotel - after arriving late at the Hotel I was swiflty checked in and escorted to my room.

The Hotel is well maintained and all the staff are very freindly.

Breakfast buffet is good with the usual Middle Eastern offering of a hot station offering omelettes etc.

Complimentary Wireless access also a plus where most places are charging outrageous amounts

A good choice in Kuwait.

A very good hotel... Clean Rooms, excellent service and prompt...

I had my lunch twice at hotel's restaurants the Japanese restaurant's dishes are WAAAW... Best i have ever had...

The other reastaurant i had a gazzle steak... it was wonderful...

The only thing was that there was no much varieties at breakfast in comparisom with other hotels... The only chef Makanlal was preparing the omlete... Makanlal is really really a hard worker... He was preparing pankakes, omlete... for all guests which you will see que waiting... Specially when there is no much options in the buffet...

Every morning we get at excellent service with smiling face from Cameron thanks Cameron...

Mustafa was responsible in the cleaness in our floor (2nd Floor)... so friendly and hard worker a BIG THANKS to Mustafa....

Thanks JW it is a great hotel :)

I choosed this hotel with the trust in Marriott brand. There are many mistakes that happened during the stay and repeated again and again. Laundry service is not professional, my clothes are damages. Security staff has a negative attitude. The manager in charge tried to resolve the issue but it happens again and again till the last minute when I checked out. They had blocked my credit card, and never released. 2 days after I came back, I found out from the statement of account , I wrote email to the front office manager but there is no response for 2 days now.

I hardly believe that this is Marriott service. It only happens in Kuwait.

I was very impressed by the excellent service from all the staff I have come across with at this hotel. Just about everything is perfect at this hotel. The indoor pool at the top of the hotel is quite nice, and the gym is adequate - for a hotel gym.The only complaint I have is that since I was using my Marriott Reward Points for my stay, I felt that one of the front desk staff was trying to charge me for everything that I thought was included in the room rate (using reward points).
