La Maison De Hamra
Ranked #18 of 47 Beirut B&B and Inns
Reviewed 24 May 2010

First of all, we found La Maison de Hamra on tripadvisor, and we decide to book for 3 nights while being in Beirut.

La Maison de Hamra is a small boutique style hotel, located in the heart the Hamra. The building is absolutely original, and very nicely restored. The hotel is located on the corner of Rue the Hamra, which is sometimes referred to as the "Champs-Elysees" of Beirut. (in my opinion this is a bit of a stretch...).

The rooms of the hotel are very stylish decorated, modern design furniture, clean, spacious, free internet (cable is available in the room, so no WIFI), and there's the ability to order a nice fresh breakfast from the coffee lounge (Butter Mint) from across the street for $6.0 pp. The breakfast is a coffee with milk on the side, fresh orange juice, a hot chocolate croissant and a cheese croissant.

The staff of La Maison de Hamra is very customer oriented, friendly, laid-back and relaxed. They made us feel very welcome, in particular George and the smiley gentleman at the door (sorry forgot his name).

We stayed in first instance 3 nights, then we rented a car, which we as well organized through the hotel, we travelled around Lebanon for 4 days, and then we decided to come back to La Maison de Hamra and spend another 2 days.

Overall, La Maison de Hamra is a real gem, and it's especially for the people working at La Maison de Hamra that we truly enjoyed staying there!!!

I took a chance booking this hotel from the one earlier review here and wasn't sure what to expect. I discovered that this really is a fabulous hotel in the middle of Hamra. I have stayed in two hotels in this district on a previous visit and this far outshone both of those. It is a lovely, comfortable place to stay in a great location. I can highly recommend it as a welcome and refreshing change in this neighbourhood.

The hotel has recently been refurbished in a modern, clean-lines style and is spotlessly clean. There are about 30 rooms, which are all suites of various sizes - mine was like a studio apartment, with a bathroom, a small kitchen and sitting area. Some utensils and crockery are provided and if you need something more the staff will find it for you, no problem. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was spotless with a power shower and no shortage of hot water.

The hotel staff were extremely courteous, friendly and helpful, and the security guy will go and get anything you need if you can't find it or you can't go yourself.

I had a room on the second floor near the reception and it can be a little bit noisy in the morning from traffic, but this is Hamra, which isn't the place to find a quiet hotel! I think if you are on a higher floor there would be a bit less noise. In any case, it didn't stop me sleeping and there were no nightclubs (in another hotel on a previous visit I couldn't sleep at all because of a nightclub next door to the hotel).

There is no restaurant so you can use your kitchen to make your own breakfast (there is a small supermarket 5 minutes walk away) or there are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. There are free laundry facilities (which I didn't use) and internet in all the rooms. There is a big tv with lots of channels and good reception. A/C is also nice and quiet.

i was so glad to find this hotel after trawling through all the other bad hotel reviews in beirut i decided to book with a place with no reviews at all!!!!

central in Hamra so noisy at night but with a vibrancy especially to go out on the balcony and watch the world go by, a wedding here traffic there. i changed rooms from the 2nd floor which was next to the reception can be noisy at night. my other room 304 was more quieter not being on the main road the rooms are actually mini studios all brand new with mini kitchenette. the decoration smart with beige leather beds comfy too. blues and cream in the modern design. bathrooms with power showers. internet free via cable a big bonus in lebanon because i have paid $25 over 3 days at a resort in Tyr where i am now...

i will go back to La maison for sure...ps Hassan at the front desk really helpful and polite and even gave me a lift to save me from the scary taxi drivers.
