“Overrated and overpriced”
Reviewed 19 July 2010

Unfortunately, that hotel does not remind anything that you could expect. It rates itself as a ****A de luxe. In fact, it is hardly *** if not **. Both as the condition, hygiene and service are concerned. We stayed there for 4 nights and it was a regular fight to get what we paid for.
Rooms are spacious that's true, but you can hardly get an impression of an Executive Room and a Diplomatic Suite (which we took). The carpets have not been cleaned for ages and the windows are rarely washed. The hotel claims coffee facilities are offered in Exec Rooms and Suites, but they probably never had it. They charge you 10$ (15 000 LL) for each use of the roof pool, which is the size of a big table and is approx. 1 meter deep, but you are not told in advance. After a complaint, they say a drink is included in the price.
They instruct you not to throw toilet paper into a toilet and perhaps that is why in the "suite" there was no toilet paper at all (delivered eventually on the last night). In the other, "executive room", there was a big technical problem with the bathroom which had a heavily leaking ceiling. The personnel was unable to fix it or change the room because the hotel was full. For the discomfort of having your back wet while using the wash basin or the toilet, or for damp towels as a result of the "rain" inside the bathroom, we were eventually offered (after several complaints) a discount of total 10 $ ! (our room price was 150$ per night).
Furthermore, wile making the booking we gave details of a credit card, but our passports were arrested by the reception which demanded advance payment in full to have our passports returned. Altogether not a hotel worth recommendation, although there were couple of staff who were friendly and understanding, but that hotel apparently lacks good manager, and engineer and a cleaner.

I was last summer on vacation in Beirut..great trip, but worst part was this hotel.
Pictures and four-star rating looked good on web, but I can tell you that´s a max of 2 star hotel. Carpets and allother stuff are like from the sevemties, completely worn off.
Just don´t take this one.

The whole hotel smells like mildew. The room was not ready on arrival. The floor was not vacuumed. There was no toilet seat. There were pubic hairs on the toilet. The staff were not helpful. When we asked about an exercise room we were told to "run around the block a couple of times" They do not have an iron in the hotel so our clothes were wrinkly every day. Even when the furniture in the room was new it would not have been nice. It was cheap and ugly. Our travel agent told us it was a 4 star. Hah! Terrible hotel. Stay away if you can help it.

I was meeting my father in Beirut for a few days, and he was in charge of booking the hotels. He ended up booking my fiancee and me into the Versailles, and after reading the reviews here I was pretty worried.

When we arrived, I wondered whether it was the same hotel descibed in these pages? The service was good (although the manager only knew one joke, and used it at every opportunity), and there were certainly no problems with shady characters or constant comings and goings.

The rooms are not 4 star, let's be honest. And it certainly is a bit rough around the edges. The overall impression is of a 1980s serviced apartment that they are half-way through refurbishing (which may be the reality, given the construction gear in the stairwell). Our double-rooms was huge, the bed comfortable enough, and with faux-wooden floor (none of the stained carpets shown in some photos). That said, the refubishment hadn't reached the bathroom - no shower cutain, a sink that leaked, and a floor that collected a puddle by the door.

Overall, not a hotel I'm rushing back to. But by the same token, not the disaster that should be avoided at all costs. And given the improvement between reviews of a few months ago and my experience, could well be a good option in another couple of months time.

A horrible service, with very dark, smelly dirty rooms, I could not stay there for one hour, I had to change to another decent hotel. The problem is that SouthTravel web site put it at 5 star hotel and after compalining that it does not deserve more than 2, they have reduced it to 4 stars which is still not even close. I do not recommend it to anyone.
