“My Stay at Century Hotel Doha”

I just stayed for a night there. The place is good and simple. But I have a comfortable and a good night sleep. The breakfast is just fine also coz' I'm not choosy on food. It's just that, I have a booking for a single bed but is not available at that time. so they offered me a room with double bed and was told that it will be the same price as the room with single bed. And when I checked out, I was charged with the price of the doube bed room. Overall, I enjoyed it even for just one night but not the price.

This hotel is for the traveler who wants to find a comfortable deal and is willing to sacrifice a few 5-star amenities, but still get a 4-star experience. Overall I had a good stay, and I saved a lot compared to my colleagues who stayed at the Hilton and paid quite a bit more.

The first thing to know is that you are near the airport, and about 20-30 minutes away from the famous Doha skyline with its business district and upper-end hotels. You can walk to the Corniche and see the skyline over the water when standing near the Museum of Islamic Art. The hotel is about 5-10 minutes taxi ride to the main Souq (market), which is the popular attraction in Doha.

The immediate neighborhood is lacking in terms of any shopping, however within walking distance there are a few small grocery stores nearby, and a few local restaurants, including Dominoes, Papa Johns, a few Indian restaurants and local restaurants. There are two laundry and dry cleaning places nearby. It was a safe neighborhood even at night.

The breakfast buffet is decent -- I am vegetarian, and was still able to do fine. More to choose from if you are a carnivore. The gym has a decent set of machines, and they have a massage service and a hot tub (which wasn't that hot).

Pros:

- 5-star furnishings -- which is a big part of your stay
- nice marble bathroom with glass shower, separate bath, separate bidet
- free internet
- attentive staff -- willingness is there
- really affordable compared to expensive alternatives in Doha

Cons* (Before seeing the list of cons, note that I ran into the owner of the hotel and he is well aware of many of these and looking for ways to correct them. Also, these cons are relatively minor, but good to know before your stay so that you adjust your expectations.)

- Glass shower doors leak to floor (simply put a towel down).
- Internet is sometimes a little slow, but annoying in the fact that you have to continually log on whenever you put your laptop to sleep or your (iPhone) switches to another function. However, apparently the city is laying down fiber optic cable and when that is up an running, things should be fast.
- Hot water sometimes takes a few minutes in the lower floors (the hot water tanks are on the top of the building). I was on the 3rd floor, the lowest for guest rooms (and right above the laundry room, so best to avoid the 3rd floor altogether)
- AC was OK, but I like it cold, but it never got sufficiently cold.
- Elevators -- only two for whole hotel sometimes means you have to wait.
- Neighborhood has very little to offer -- you have to catch a cab to any shopping or other attractions like the nearby Museum of Islamic Art.

But aside from those small things, it was a nice stay and I felt good about saving so much money. The Qatar National Museum is being built in the neighborhood -- in fact there is a lot of construction going on, so the neighborhood may change significantly.

Room Tip: - Higher rooms (goes up to about 15 floors) get hot water faster, and have a better view, but it tak...

I stayed here on a comped night from my airline and was beyond pleasantly surprised. The room was massive and bathroom were massive. There was a small foyer entrance. There were floor to ceiling windows with a view of the bay. It was extremely clean and I'm quite a clean freak. Would recommend to anyone!

I stayed at Century Hotel for 10 nights. The best things are: room is spacious not small, comfortable bed, plenty of pillows, AC can be controlled, enough electricity outlets (though plug types are UK and you should have travel adapters), good reliable Wifi. Restaurant food is acceptable though dinners are better than breakfasts, and breakfasts don't have much variety. Very friendly and qualified staff and not intrusive. They can drive you to places, since taxi's are hard to find in Doha, but I didn't try this option. They offer airport pickup/dropoff. On the bad points: Cleanliness is fine but can always be better. Lobby is small. Price is acceptable but can be lower.

I arrived back in Doha after being away for months, have stayed at the Century hotel before and if anything it is getting better, the staff are very friendly and helpfull, the service is like a 5 star hotel and the food is fine, in my opinion this is the best value for money hotel in Doha.

I noticed a few revies moaning about taxis in Doha, there are Karwa taxis available and can be booked by the hotel but nowhere in Doha is easy to get about unless you drive.

Thanks to the manager Hany Maroun and all his staff for making my stay so comfortable.
