A friend had suggested we visit to get a better understanding of Islamic culture and I suspect that is unfortunately exactly what we got. My wife who was respectably dressed was offered the opportunity to see midday prayers. But instead of being escorted into the screened female only viewing area, she was confronted by a rude woman that refused repeated requests from one of the centres educational (PR) officers to let her in. The guide was very embarrassed and left trying to explain to my upset wife that the behaviour was not symbolic of Islam but was cultural. Somehow I don’t think that made my wife feel any better about her cultural experience.
