Central Damascus, Bab Touma near to one od the gates of Damascus is the perfect hotel.
A converted merchants house with beautiful decorated rooms (check website). Court yeard with lemon trees and fountains hidden fron the main road. Only a short walk to the famous mosque and the Souk full of amazing shops of gold and herbs and clothes.

The hotel is so comfortable, once you are seen in the road with shopping, the staf greet you and carry your goods to you room while you are greeted with a cold drink.

Absolutely amazing Hotel and the best city I have ever visited

Room Tip: you can also book trips to Palmyra the ancient large city of queen Zenobia and visit the Baghdad Caf...

I stayed here in late 2008, but never managed to write a review until now. I stayed here at the tail end of a business trip to Syria, and I was amazed at the atmosphere in the hotel. The restoration work completed on the property is impressive, and really made one feel that they were staying someplace special.

Breakfast was included, and was also very good. The staff were very helpful, including arranging to have my taxi fare to the airport added on my hotel bill so I could pay it with a credit card (I was out of Syrian cash by that point).

The hotel itself is located in old Damascus and very close to all of the sights of the old city, including the Umayyad Mosque and the Souq. Once things calm down again, I would recommend staying here for the atmosphere, service and proximity to the old city.

This is certainly not a hotel to go with all the charm and beauty and 5 star rated its too far from all the attractions. The prize of a room was 40 percent more then better hotels in the old town

Room Tip: upper rooms are better

My mother and I ended up staying at Beit Zaman given the situation in Syria. It had been out of our budget originally but we were able to stay there after most of the tourists had cancelled their plans. It was a beautiful Damascene home that had been converted into a hotel. Rooms were decorated with beautiful pearl inlaid furniture. The courtyard had a fountain, courtyard , fruit trees and other period furniture. It was such a serene place to stay and the location on Straight street was perfect.

Room Tip: All rooms face the courtyard and are similar

Charming old hotel in Christian Quarter. Staff went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The rooms are large and comfortable and everything worked. Gorgeous courtyards off each room offer a quiet peaceful space to relax in.
I enquired where I could buy the yummy Rose jam served at breakfast and instead of telling me where to buy it the concierge rushed out and bought me 2 jars with compliments of the Hotel!
You step outside into the action. Don't bother with the Hammam downstairs though you can do better outside in the souq.

Room Tip: Beware of rooms facing road - very noisy at night

Beit Zaman is a house in the Old City of Damascus, within an easy walk of the Roman Arch, the Umayyad mosque, the bazaar, and good restaurants. It is full of character and charm, with tasteful furnishings, many amenities in the very clean rooms, and a wonderful, helpful staff. Breakfasts are plentiful, with plenty of fruits and delicious miniature pastries. Rooms are arranged around courtyards, so a noisy group could be a problem, and rooms do vary a lot in size. But all are comfortable, and in general, this is a tranquil, beguiling place.

Room Tip: Damascene House is especially quiet.

Beit Zaman is located in the Christian Quarter of Old Damascus. The location is perfect for exploring old Damascus, as well as outside the walls, day or night. Shops, cafes, and restaurants are just outside its front door. However once you step inside you feel you are in a different world. The common areas are beautifully decorated with Middle Eastern furniture, on sunny days you can read a book in the outside spaces or just relax and listen to the many fountains.

Our party stayed at the hotel 3 nights over two stays. The rooms and the bathrooms were very clean. The rooms are unique, but beautiful and some of the bathrooms have beautiful tile work. As others have noted the bathrooms are small but efficient. The Al Dardasha café offers a great place to people watch late into the night or just to relax with a cup of tea after a day of sightseeing. The hotel staff is professional, helpful and their recommendations and directions were very good. They also pay great attention to detail and make you feel welcome. We hope to return to Damascus and to Beit Zaman.
