“Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff - faultless!”
Reviewed 12 October 2010

We can't really fault this hotel - it was a perfect place for my husband and I to stay as part of our honeymoon. The hotel is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean and the staff were so friendly and helpful! Our room was lovely with a super comfortable bed, air conditioning and a big TV, along with beautiful features. Every room seems to have such care put into its design with lovely traditional syrian furniture. Whilst we were there they were re decortating one of the floors so some of the rooms should be even more fabulous for anyone visiting soon! The staff on the desk, Mustaffa and Thaer were always so chatty and friendly and would help us with absolutely anything; Mustaffa seems to know everything there is to know about the museums nearby and was fantastic with directions. Breakfast was a lovely taste of the Arabic culutre with lots of different cheeses, humous and tea and was a great start to each day. We couldn't believe how kind everyone was; the manager gave us a beautiful syrian jewellery box as a gift as he knew we were on honeymoon - where else would you get that kind of service!? The hotel's location is actually perfect as it's close to both the old AND new city and a few minutes walk from the national museum. There are lots of hotels directly in the old city in the straight street area but we felt where the Al-Maldinah was was much better. We both loved Damascus and definitely hope to visit again and will book in here when we do!

Excellent staff, good breakfast, great room. I've seen 4 star hotels that could not match with this one.

Tareq, the owner and manager, is a truly gentleman and a smart businessman. One can trust his advice and recommendations.
I must have stayed over 100 hotels in over 50 cities during last 3-4 years. I am pleased to admit that Tareq is among the friendliest hotel managers/owners I have come across so far. And that is invaluable.
However despite taking all factors in account I still must say that the hotel is slightly over-priced. USD 90 for a double room, of quite basic standard, is too much in Damascus.
The hotel is at walking distance to the old town, 15-20 min walk, breakfast is ok, and that’s all.
At USD 50-70, I would have given it highest grading but not at this price.

I traveled to Damascus for my birthday with my boyfriend and stayed at Al Madinah Hotel for 4 nights. I have experienced the most amazing services ever. In such a different place from our own culture we felt disorientated. The hotel staff as well as most of the people we met in this beautiful journey helped us feel welcomed. I would best describe this hotel as a 3star hotel with 5star services. It is the best place to experience the genuine Damascus...

My boyfriend and I spend 5 nights at the City Hotel in Sep 2010. The cost was $95 per night. The staff are really friendly and helpful, including arranging airport pick up and recommending some very good restuarants. The hotel is well located within easy walking distance of the old town and the main souks. The rooms are a decent size with good air conditioning and are nicely decorated and very clean. I'd recommend this hotel - good value option.
