This old house on Straight Street has been converted to a small boutique hotel at great expense over the last few years and it has been worth every cent. The owner and members of his family run the front of house efficiently and with great concern for the guests while the bar/wait/room staff seem to be genuinely interested in providing whatever you want immediately and with a smile. It's only been open for a few months and although some things are still in 'shakedown' mode the guest rooms are spotless, well appointed and everything works as it should including lots of hot water, good a/c and high quality beds. You can eat and drink in the courtyard around the fountain under the stars (or the retractable roof); there will be a rooftop bar and restaurant shortly.
The location is about as central to old Damascus as you can get and right across from The Orient Gate, the best of the serious Old Town shops. Agenor's owner says he is opening another larger boutique place in Aleppo next year: we will be going there too!
