“Very good hotel”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

We arrived on 23 Dec by night. The reception was very warm and friendly and didn't take long. In fact we were nervous a little bit as our communication with the hotel to have an extra bed was not going well and upon our arrival, the receptionist told us that extra beds are not available. The room was very nice viewing the gulf. The room facilities were modern and good. The guest service was very helpful and responsive for any request. Horizon is the whole day dining restaurant with buffet and Beach Restaurant is for dinner only set menu. Both restaurants are great in food and variety. The only challenge was in Horizon on breakfast. It was to ask for tea/coffee spoons. Every day we had to ask for them and we failed to figure out the reason behind their scarcity. The pool and beach are great places to relax and have the kids enjoying the time. We had only one accident of having our long chair taken away by a hotel attendant while we were in the pool without checking if it was used. Also, when asking for a chair we haven't got anything beyond a wide friendly smile with a promise to bring it back. The pool is very clean and there is a kids playing room where you could leave them under supervision. It was very good and friendly. Eventually we had the extra bed in the last night and was complimentary. The hotel is not far from many activities in down town Abu Dhabi and a walking distance from Marina Mall. In brief, we liked that Christmas holiday in the city and in the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms higher than the 10th floor and on the section of x14-x31 are very good as they view the gulf a...

This is an excellent hotel, with a very nice beach, huge rooms and a very good servis. The location is also great - in a walking distance from Marina Mall and the Corniche, but in a silent corner - you do not hear traffic all night.

I stayed here with my two adult children for 4 days in a twin room plus a rollaway bed. The room was perfectly big enough to accommodate the additional bed and although it was nowhere near as comfortable as a normal bed, it was good enough and avoided my having to pay for an additional room.

The pool and beach facilities were excellent which was the main reason I chose the hotel. All staff were extremely helpful and thoroughly efficient.

The only thing that let the hotel down for me was the absence of a free wifi facility. The Khalidiya really need to sort this out if they are to compare favourably with their competitors.

Oh, one more thing to be aware of if alcohol is a deal-breaker for you; this is a DRY hotel. This wasn't a problem for me and they are fairly up front and proud of their alcohol-free status but if you simply can't do without it then you may want to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ours was sea and pool view with balcony which was very nice.

Dear Trip Advisor Member,

Thank you for your heartwarming review of the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana.

We are very delighted to hear that you and your family had a fabulous four days stay at our hotel. Your compliments about the room, pool and beach facilities, and our colleagues’ helpfulness and efficiency were appreciated and shared to the team during our morning briefing.

On the other hand, though some other hotels are providing the internet for free, we are charging the service as our speed is better than what they offer. However, we are also offering a complimentary internet in the room through our IPTV facility as an option for our guests.

Likewise, thank you for your understanding about the non-alcoholic environment of the hotel and we wish to inform you that “Rayhaan” is a brand of Rotana which restores the values of the contemporary Arabian culture hence, we are not serving any kind of alcohol in the hotel. Nevertheless, we have created healthy options in replacement of this specific aspect and we are committed to delivering the highest standards of service in other areas.

Thank you once again and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back to the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana.

Yours sincerely,

Stay here a little while back. The rooms were very comfortable, spacious and clean. The service very friendly and efficient. there was a lovely pool area which unfortunately had no time to use. We had a beautiful meal at The Beach and recommend the alcove tables. Highlight of the stay was the wonderful evening buffet, some of the best food we ate during our stay in both Abhu Dhabi and Dubai. Yum!
Would definitely recommend this hotel. Plenty of places to have a quiet drink close by. Try the Yacht Club.

Situated right at the end of the Corniche, opposite the Emirates Palace hotel, the Khalidiya Palace is however in the middle of a large building development, quite a bit of which to the left and behind the hotel is still being worked on, and may interfere with your enjoyment of the surroundings especially at 7am when the dumper trucks start reversing.
The pool and beach area is lovely, and the breakfast room terrace outside is a very nice setting, but service outside is a bit hit-and-miss. the restaurants are ok, but not outstanding, but down the road you have the Marina Mall with several restaurants, and across the road is the Emirates Palace with several more.
Europeans must understand before they get here that this is a "dry" hotel, part of the Rayhaan imprint of Rotana, presumably to attract more Arabic families. As long as you understand that you need to bring supplies with you and drink in your room it shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the hotel as a) your bills will be cheaper (no bar bills) and b) nearby hotels with bars are available should you fancy a stroll or short taxi ride.
The lobby area is lovely and you can look up at all the floors above (or down from them, so vertigo sufferers should get a low floor) and the whole hotel environment is lovely, but will be improved when the local building works are completed.

Dear Trip Advisor Member,

Thank you for taking the time to share your great comments regarding your recent stay at the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana.

We are very pleased to know that you had an enjoyable time with us.

Moreover, thank you for your understanding regarding the “Rayhaan” concept of the hotel which is a brand of Rotana restoring the values of the contemporary Arabian culture. Hence, we are not serving any kind of alcohol in the hotel. Nevertheless, we have created healthy options in replacement of this specific aspect and we are committed to delivering the highest standards of service in other areas.

Likewise, thank you for emphasizing on the convenient location of the hotel with the Marina Mall and some tourist attractions in the vicinity that adds to the accessibility of various services outside the hotel. Indeed, we are very excited with the completion of the current development project in the area including the Presidential Palace that will surely provide a stunning view to our guests’ rooms and add value to their stay.

Once again, we appreciate your feedback and advices given to the other travelers. Meanwhile, we look forward to welcome you again as valued guests should you visit Abu Dhabi in the future.

Yours sincerely,

We stayed for 2 nights in October 2013, the hotel is very nice, the grounds around are still being worked on, we had views over a construction site. There were a few issues for us, the wireless internet was very very expensive, something like 90AED per day or 20AED for an hour, a big rip off, we got lucky when we first arrive and had free internet for about an hour, it let us check a few things since there was no useful information in the room about what Abu Dhabi had to offer and what was near the hotel. The breakfast was really good, but they would not give me a hot chocolate "they are only free for kids", I don't understand that, I don't really like coffee, it should either be everyone pays extra or no one does.
The hotel is across the road from Emirates Palace, you can just walk across, Emirates Palace is amazing, so the location was fine for us, we just wanted to chill out, and taxis are cheap anyway.

Stayed 5 nights in a 1 bedroom "apartment style" room and added 2 single beds in the sprawling lounge area to accommodate the children. Even though I had booked and confirmed a room for 2 adults and 2 children - front desk had no record. After a few minutes of discussion they honoured the rate and waived the extra charges for the children.
Location is close to Emirates Palace and next door to another major palace building project (which we did not hear at all during our stay). The property is a hollowed out hi-rise so in the lobby you can stare straight up at all the floors. If you suffer from vertigo, choose a lower floor.
The hotel does cater to a wide range of European "fly and flop" package holiday makers so seemed to be quite busy at this time.
Meet and greet service, front desk, room service and poolside - service was excellent. the Beach restaurant unfortunately let the team down.
I personally believe the hotel has the best resort pool grounds in Abu Dhabi. Soft green grass, shady trees, plenty of lounges and 3 connected pools. Kids and myself loved it. Would stay here again simply for the pool and grounds.
Close to Marina Mall, Khalidiya Mall and Al Wadha Mall (the best)
Taxis were easy to get and seemed cheaper than in Dubai (where we had just come from)

Did it concern us this was a "dry" or "no alcohol" hotel? Not in the slightest.

Did it concern other tourists? Yes - but they made do by hauling their own vodka and the like into the hotel.

Really relaxed here, loved it - better holiday in Abu Dhabi than in Dubai - a bit more laid back, calmer and nicer.

Room Tip: Ask about low cost upgrades at check-in
