I visited the Mosque after sunset and was amazed by the scale and grandeur of the place. I ended up staying almost 2 hours, as I was captivated and taking photos and just enjoying the ambiance. There were very few other visitors when I was there (a Tuesday, from approximately 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.)
I would have liked a tour or guide to help explain some more about the significance of certain things, but even without this it was incredible to just walk around and enjoy.
If you are a keen photographer like me, it is worth noting that you can use tripods both inside and outside the Mosque. This was invaluable, particularly after dark, and there are many, many opportunities for great photos here.
Final bonus: it's free!
