“A great hotel on Yas Island”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

We love going to this hotel. We are always so warmly welcomed and recognized at returning guests. We often have little welcome notes waiting for us in the room! The staff, from reservation to check in, check out and everything in between are so friendly and pleasant. The beach is down the road but there are cars going back and forth from the hotel so we like to head down there for a bit of paddle boarding. Such a lovely hotel, one of our favorites when we need a little weekend break.

A difficult hotel to review because there is good bad & indifferent with much inconsistency. The hotel is clearly in a unique position but you may feel fairly isolated.
We visited with friends, I arranged the trip but the hotel decided our friends would be treated like VIP's & we were the poor relation. I am very happy for my friends to get the service they deserve but play fair. This started at check-in where we were told by the most miserable unwelcoming receptionist that we would have our room in around 90 minutes. There was no welcome drink or cool towel which we have always received in Dubai hotels. When an enquiry was made about breakfast we were told that would be a ridiculously high price as our package hadn't started & completely the opposite attitude to the Royal Mirage where we stayed in June & received a complimentary light breakfast with our early check-in. Just a coffee & croissant is all that is needed.
We met up with our friends who had an entirely different check in with just a 10 minute wait for their room which had been upgraded to a suite. We were also then upgraded but only after pointing out the unfairness of the situation. However our friends had 3 fresh flower arrangements brought to them, none for us. For them a complimentary daily newspaper, not for us.
I can live without a newspaper & flowers but we all found the lack of consistency & lack of staff understanding over the half board option to be completely ridiculous & frustrating. Even a complaint to management revealed that they didn't understand the system & we didn't get any feedback in response to our complaint. The Arabic restaurant was really not good & getting a cup of coffee in Origins at breakfast time was a test of our patience.
However there were some outstanding staff, Hung did all he could to help us & the trainee sake sommelier & chef in Kazu were fabulous. We ate well at the Indian & Italian restaurants and at The Noodle Box. Happy Hour 5-7pm on the terrace by Origins was a pleasure.
We felt that the majority of the issues with this hotel revolved around its identity issues, is it for business or pleasure? Certainly a combination of the two isn't offering the tourist the usual standard expected from a five star experience.
There's plenty of hotel choice in the UAE so come on Viceroy to compete get your staff trained & make staying at the hotel a special experience.

This hotel came recommended by a travel agent for our first visit to Abu Dhabi. The hotel is primarily a business hotel but is clearly trying to appeal to the tourist end also. The only criticism I have is that they offered a half board package which didn't seem to be understood by the staff and whereby the details differed from one restaurant to another and from night to night. That aside this is a fantastic hotel; the design is stunning, the staff very professional and welcoming and the rooms were superb. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite with a fantastic high spec bathroom, remote controlled facilities and luxurious bedding and fittings. There are 2 beautiful roof top swimming pools, one being an adults only and a fantastic ESPA spa. The choice of restaurants is particularly good and I would highly recommend Kazu, the Japanese restaurant. Food and staff were perfect here. Noodle Box and the Italian restaurants were also amongst our favourites, as was the stunning roof top bar skylight.
We are definitely planning a return visit and would love to combine this with the Grand Prix for which you have a track side view.

We stayed at this hotel 2 nights in November 2013, one week after the Formula One GP. The hotel is located on Yas Island, very close to the airport, and right on the F1 track of Yas Marina. So, it is a bit noisy when cars are running but it was not a problem for us cause we were expecting it (I've read some bad reviews about the noise but come on, what the point of being on a F1 track and complaining about motors' noises...!). So if you hate motor sports, you need to find another place. Please note that Yas Island is about 20 to 30 minutes away from Abu Dhabi.
The hotel is divided in two buildings, connected by a bridge over the F1 track. Each building has a rooftop pool (one of them is a quiet pool, children are not welcomed which was great), and you can use both of them, no matter the building you are staying in. Hotel as several restaurants, breakfast is rich and gorgeous. You can eat inside or outside if you can bear the heat. The hotel has a nice fitness room, a spa and some other amenities we didn't try.
Our room was into the main building, at 7th floor with a view over the marina. Room is quite big, very bright and modern. Big king bed, a bathtub plus a shower. The bathroom was clean but the floor of our bedroom was a bit dirty (footsteps of previous customers were clearly visible).
Service was good at the reception. We dropped our car to the valet and we had an early check-in at 9am without any problem. But we were told we could pay every extras at the check-out, so we did not give our credit card to the receptionist. It caused us some troubles at the restaurant for the dinner, we almost have been treated like thieves, it was a bit irritating.
To sum up :
+ : perfect location for motor sports fan (F1 track, Ferrari World), two pools with one forbidden for children, very nice rooms, great breakfast
- : cleanliness of the room floor, miscommunication at the reception regarding the payments of extras made our last dinner a bit weird.

Room Tip: pick a high floor, as the nightclub RUSH is located on the first floor, on the bridge connecting the...

This hotel is first class. The customer service was very professional and friendly, the rooms were spacious and modern. The breakfast was fantastic, could not fault – it has everything. The pool was amazing, we swam at night time looking up at the stars. The restaurants downstairs were very good – we ate at the Noodle Box for lunch and Kazu – the Japanese restaurant. The food in Kazu was probably the best Japanese I've had. We love our Japanese food and I’d give this place a 5/5. The hotel is about a 15min drive from the airport and after a long haul flight from Australia, you want to stay at a hotel that’s near enough to the airport and be treated like a super star (even if it was only for a couple of nights).

The hotel is very well located being right in the center of the Formula 1 track. I wa there in early November which is probably why the price was acceptable, even if expensive. The room was very large ans modern. I had a direct view on a part of the track and marina. You can have breakfast or dinner with a view on the track. The hotel has 6 restaurant including noodles, italian, japanese, indian, buffet and middle east. There is a nice pool for adults only and a separate one for the family. The gym is located on 9th floor and is well equipped. You must see the bar on the 9th floor which shows a very spectacular architecture. The service was very professional. Breakfast is international style and very good. Be careful if you have a room close to the track and there are car racing. Also on the marina side, rooms on lower floors could be very noisy due to the bar Rush.

Room Tip: See above. Be careful on marina side to be high enough. Ask if there are race, then avoid main build...

We'd seen it featured prominently during the televised Grand Prix and now, just a few days later, we were spending a night at this unique location. The hotel is a striking structure, straddling the racing track and adjacent to the stands, pit lanes and the marinas which are all part of the infrastructure of GP racing.
Having been quickly and efficiently checked in, we were led to our fifth floor rooms. And what rooms! Cool, spacious, luxurious and immaculate...and with a balcony that overlooked the track and marina. We had been warned that there was GP2 practising taking place, and outside the noise was raucous and cracklingly loud. But the well-sealed door and efficient double glazing effectively eliminated the outside activity.
We made use of the smaller rooftop pool - a delightful location, even allowing for the buzz of cars circulating far below us. The pool is clean and run with attentive service that includes staff arranging recliners and towels for you and bringing complimentary drinks and ice creams.
In the evening we visited the Amici italian restaurant within the hotel and were impressed by both the quality of service and of the excellent food.
Recommended? Yes of course, but be aware of the location and be prepared for the noise and excitement of motor racing!

As we have just completed a re-fit of the balcony doors for the entire building, your positive comments regarding noise attenuation are very pleasing.
