This was my second time at this hotel as a stopover from Australia to Europe. It is a high standard hotel with good facilities and design features. I stayed here about two years ago, also in a Gold room, and really noticed a decline in the cleanliness and maintenance of the room which was starting to show its age and the tiles/mirrors weren't very clean. The staff were good but I remember far better service last time. It's the small touches that make the difference. I was there during Ramadan and there seemed to be confusion about timing for evening drinks and food but the staff on the gold floor helped me out with some food and a drink outside the usual hours which was appreciated. The pool is a good size but was also looking a little shabby around the edges. I stay here for convenience and the price is usually good but I'll skip the Gold floor next time - wasn't value for money.

Amazing views of the Grand Mosque from the rooms. Its a luxury 5 stars hotel, with a good price, efficient service in the reception and luxury rooms. The beach looks nice in the pictures but in the reality its not what we expect, but in other hand the pool its amazing.

Its a great choice for weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Recently spent 2 nights in the warm comforts if Fairmont Bab Al Bar with my partner. Being frequent travellers we have experienced several amazing hotels, but this one is in our top 3.

From the amazing rooms with great views of the creek and Sh. Zayed Mosque to the outstanding service from everyone we encountered, we will certainly be repeating our visit!

Even though it was Ramadan so some services weren't available (pool side service etc) the night time restaurants were top notch (see my review of Frankie's!).

If you're ever in Abu Dhabi make sure this hotel is the top of your list for aces to stay. The little bit extra you lay is well worth it!!!

Simply one of the best hotels I visited. Luxurious and comfortable in everyway.
Breakfast is great too with the widest variety imaginable.

DOWNSIDES? Yes, Sea water in front of hotel is very shallow, and there are almost no waves! I am told this is because the water front was man made (Canal or bay) and it is not open to the wider sea!

My wife and I stayed for a week 29 June - 6 July.
Good:
Upon arrival, registration was simple, what could be explained simply was, room allocated and directions given to CuiScene, the main restaurant.
Food throughout our stay was excellent even if a little bit samey. We could always find something to eat.
Our room was excellent and the two minor issues were attended to and resolved within minutes of reporting. We had a view of the Grand Mosque which was really stunning.
Swimming pool was excellent, except when taken over by weekend visitors!
The staff were very helpful especially Benji at the consierge desk. Also the German manager in CuiScene was really helpfull regarding Iftar. The pool/gym guys were very helpfull too.
Bad:
Misinformation concerning using other restaurants. Depending on who we spoke to, we were told we could use our allowance, once, never, always! Although we only did this once, we thoroughly enjoyed Frankies. It was during this visit we found where the Hotel Bar was! Not once were we told where we could get a drink in the evening (Ramadan), alcoholic or non alcoholic, more of that later. Drinking during the day by the pool was a farce. Having travelled many times to the UAE and at Ramadan, i was amazed that the hotel would not allow it's guests to drink water by their loungers. If we wanted a drink we had to go to a curtained off area, like someone with a contagious disease! Only halfway through the week did they set up a seperate area for smokers so as non smokers didn't suffer whilst having a drink of water. I understand the rules but surely we are on private property, not offending anyone so drinking water in upto 45 degrees of heat should be ok?
The beach. Well the small bit that was available was not the cleanest I've ever experienced. Also the main part of the 'private' beach had an enormouse temporary marquee on it. This was so 'guests' could watch the football workd cup on various big screen or in private booths with playstations etc. for this we would of had the privilege of paying 100 Dirhams each! Yes we could of had a drink in there but there weren't matches every day.
Another large marquee was erected for Iftar for additional dining. However smoking was allowed at either the tables or seperate seating areas, this included hookahs. This is so very wrong.
The lady manager in CuiScene did ask us at breakfast if we wanted to book a table each evening but we agreed to eat after 9:00pm. One time we had sat down at 9:00pm and were told that the restaurant would be closing in 20 minutes! We politely pointed out that we were aware the reataurant would close at 11:30pm so we would be taking our time!
The Chocolate Gallery was closed and used as a Male prayer room.
Only point regarding our room was it was set up for a single traveller not a couple. Surely if a room is booked for two people it should be set up for two people, it's not difficult!
Many of the things stated on the Hotel website have been added since Ramadan and as we research our holidays thoroughly, we never saw any of these things listed.
The hotel really should consider a comprehensive guide for guests with dos and don'ts, especially Ramadan.
Disappointed as we had high expectations and feel thay have not been met. We discussed the issues with other guests and they were of the same opinion. If The Fairmont doesn't want 'tourist holiday makers' and only want the business traveller who charges everything to expenses or those who travel within the Emirates and are looking for a weekend away, they need to change their marketting. We know offers come up during the searing heat of the summer but we shouldn't be treated like we aren't wanted. Would we recommend the hotel, possibly, would we come back possibly, would we come during Ramadan definitely not. I would be interested to see how the Fairmont in Dubai operates during Ramadan. One plus though and we thank you for it, cancelling the Friday Brunch during Ramadan

Room Tip: Creek view room overlooking the Grand Mosque.
