My husband and I went for a 'relaxing' weekend away from Dubai, unfortunately it wasn't. I feel for the staff as they deserved 5 stars, otherwise this review would be 2 stars so added just the one!

Positives
99% of the staff are great and couldn't be more accommodating
Good view on Mosque side
Good location if you want to see the mosque/close to airport, probably about 20mins into AD city itself
Rooms are a good size, facilities in room as to be expected from a 5 star hotel
Nice lounge in Gold Class very comfy seats in TV/Quiet area
Afternoon Tea, 2-4pm, in Gold Class was OK and filled a gap but not great choice for gluten free eaters, so ended up having to eat at other restaurants
Gold Class worth the money if you know you are going to have a few drinks every night if not go for a standard room, other 'club rooms' we have been to have provided soft drinks throughout the day, there is only happy hour here 6.30-9pm to get free drinks
Gym as you would expect in 5 star with Sauna etc

BIG NEGATIVE We didn't realise it was a young arab hangout so the beach and pool bar always busy especially at the weekend, we went in the Summer so who knows what it would be like in the Winter when busier. We positioned ourselves as far away from the bar as possible but it was still blaring, in fact some of the other 'customers' had their own music systems playing as well next to them on the beach!

Other Negatives
It had, in the corridors, a very corporate feel 'the green mile effect'
All the food was the usual 5 star fair and expensive, 100AED 1pax for a poolside lunch inc a soft drink, easily 200AED 1pax for evening meal inc soft drink (reviewed restaurants under their own cover)
There is no pork at breakfast, which can be important for those travelling within GCC
The master switch for the lights in the bedroom was by the bed but it had to be switched on to get any of the other lights one, not great when you went to the washroom in the middle of the night as all the lights came on, woke other occupants/you forgot the switch needed to be on and wondering again why the lights weren't working ad traipsing back and forth to get it to work
Not enough hooks in the bathroom area, there is a walk in shower which is really good but then on one place to put your towel for it to dry with any space is in the walk in shower cubicle so it will get wet again
For gluten free eaters there isn't much choice at breakfast, they do provide gluten free bread but it isn't the nicest, but OK toasted, (please Fairmont try Mrs Crimbles easy and it comes in a packet so anyone can do it) there are the usual cheap sliced meats, smoked ham, fruit & yogurt but after a few days, quite dull and not unfortunately the tastiest
The keys to the room kept not working in 4 days I think we had to go to reception 5 times to get it fixed
Beds quite soft and we didn't sleep that well but this is subjective and suits some
Pool really busy
Staff around the poolside had to be waved for attention to get served sometimes this would take 15mins (I know lazy but for a 5 star you shouldn't expect to have to get up all the time) would recommend that the waiting staff went around periodically asking if anyone needed anything
Effectively, and they have the space, they need to create another pool for 'quiet' relaxing space

Unfortunately wouldn't go back unless we really had to/forced, will stick to other spots

Room Tip: Face the mosque

We booked this holiday for the family not sure what to expect. as the hotel looked like a Lego Block...originally booked for 9 nights but extended for a further 3 nights and here is the reason why.....
Upon arrival what a surprise was to await us! totally gobsmacked by the décor, the lobby, rooms, the cleanliness.
Above all the staff ware outstanding!! the welcome was amazing. they just couldn't to enough. you was made to feel special and unique, you was addressed by name and always. always with a smile no matter what time of the day!
The concierge service was above and beyond what you could ever expect. especially Dayral. he always greeted you by name and went out of his way to get me a phone to make a call to the UK when I had an emergency. the knowledge of this Gentleman is more than any tourism guide can ever tell you of Abu Dhabi! Thanks very much Dayral.
The choice of food available in the Cuscine Restaurant was more than you could expect.. spoit for choice is an understatement.. there was also Frankies.. Italian dining and Marco Polo restaurant if you prefer.
A special thanks to the restaurant staff, Fazloon and the team!! they really showed appreciation and personal service.
The pool was excellent, cleaned every morning. the poolside bar had a special feel.

Overall 11 out of 10................Highly recommended and will definitely go and stay at the Fairmont again in the very near future.

Hope this review is helpful.. enjoy yr stay.

Faaz and Satti Ramputh

Room Tip: Choose Room with A View.. excellent view Of the pool, sea, and Sheikh Zayed Mosque

A very comfortable place to stay with especially with family and kids. I love their pool for the kids as well as for the adults with a bar on the side of pool.
Would love to return to this hotel again.

We stayed at the Bab Al Bahr in early August for 2 weeks on half board basis.

The rooms are very spacious and modern also very clean( ask for a mosque view room).

When staying on half board your meals are in the cuiscene restaurant both breakfast and dinner are buffet style.
We did not have a bad meal in the 2 weeks we stayed, for dinner there are food stations from all over the world including seafood/salads/arabic/indian/british and asian what a choice.
Breakfast was also very good, again food for all types the only thing you cannot get is bacon as we know it, in the Fairmont it is beef bacon not that bad, there is a station cooking omlettes or fried eggs, once again all top quality.
We also had a meal in Frankies the Italian, this was also a very high standard, you can do this while staying half board all you do is book at reception, but remember you will be charged anything above the meal tarriff from Cuiscene.
Now to the staff who I must say are all exeptional something the Fairmont should be very proud of, here are some of the names and areas they work in.
The hotel runs a free mini bus shuttle into the city this takes about 50 minutes to an hour, a taxi take approx 25 minutes at an average cost of 40 dirhams(£8) this was going to the Abu Dhabi Mall.A taxi to the F1 circuit and Ferrari world is around the same price.
Roshan in the Hotel Reception
Fazloon in Cuiscene
Daniel/Krishnan/Nitesh and Maria around the pool bar.
Sorry I cannot remember everybody's name but again all I can say is THANK YOU all for making our stay a fantastic 1.

Room Tip: A Mosque view room, brilliant.

We booked this hotel only for a weekend for a early celebration of my birthday.
Our flight was arriving to Abu Dhabi very early in the morning so I had asked if possible to check in early, mentioning also the reason of the journey. I was promissed by the reservation team that they would do their best if a room was available. And indeed when we arrived at the 8 am the room was ready. the check in was fast, the room was big and very nicely decorated.
The swimming pool was very beautiful, this was actually the main reason I booked this hotel. But some of the guests were not careful in using it. From the pool you can walk to the beach, there are some showers available to take of the sand and come use again the swimming pool, but some of the guest were not doing it so the pool was a bit dirty. One night they closed it sooner for this reason to clean it. Which was good. the service at the pool was excellent, the food, drinks everything. the free ice creams were great during the hot hours at the sun. We mostly used the pool in the evening as it was too hot during the day.
After visitng the swimming pool, the reception called us to inform us of a small surprize for me. They didn't forget my birthday and send me a delicious chocolate cake. This was a great attention from them. I appreciated it very much. Thank you.
Normally there is no WI-FI free connection, unless you book the GOLD room, but they still gave me the WIFI but making me a Fairmont member. Thanks again.
The hotel is very beautifully decorated, the lobby smells so fresh and so nice with the cristal sofa's just great.
We had a room at the second floor,so we took the elevator to the third floor for making better pictures at the seaview. the staff there was very kind and thy offered us a small tour at the floor.
From the restarants we tried the cuisine buffet. Which was good but not that great. the price was not expensive 203 dirham per person but I must say I have had a better buffet in Dubai.
Over all it was a great getaway weekend for us and we fully enjoyed it.

Room Tip: try to get a room with the Sea view

Just returned from an excellent 5 night stay with my family at the Fairmont Bab al Bahr. Excellent service from everyone we had the pleasure of meeting, especially Made on reception who assisted us with room requests before our arrival, thanks again Made. The staff at Frankie's were super with the boys, Angel and Karen were very attentive with Luke and Sam, Thank you. Food was out of this world and nothing was a problem assisting with my 3 year old's food allergy. Room service was very quick and excellent again.
Poolside service was excellent, the lifeguards always happy to see the boys and happy to loan out their own pool toys and life vests. Water and ice buckets were always available and never a problem getting sunbeds with the assistance of the staff.
We were very lucky to get a room upgrade to a Mosque view (room 423) which was very special The view was amazing both morning and night.
Overall an excellent property with excellent staff and services, will be hard to beat and I felt we were all spoilt so much it will be hard for future holiday hotels to live up to the Fairmont.
Hoping for a return next year.

Room Tip: Try for a Mosque view room as I am sure supplement isn't too much.
