The Grand Millennium opened downtown Abu Dhabil (A.D.) in 2009 and is the center of attraction for people and groups. Located adjacent to one of the larger malls of A.D. it allow you to get personal needs, shopping, a wide variety of restaurants in the mall food court, and in the lower level of the mall is a grocery store.
Food in the hotel can be quite expensive (e.g. = $40.00USD) for buffet lunch, but the grocery store and food court (not just fast food) allows a wide variety of options. There are plenty of restaurants nearby.
The hotel is located just 5 long blocks from the Corniche (the boardwalk and swimming beach) and 3.5 blocks to the King Zayed Road that connects A.D. to Dubai...access is very easy, valet parking is free, room service and housekeeping is impeccable and everyone is more than friendly. They call you by name and treat you with class.
I was here on business and it met every need I had. Personally, while the A.D. transit system is good and taxis are plentiful, driving a rental car is very easy, signs are clearly in Arabic and English and getting around town is easier with personal car. Otherwise I would recommend the taxis.
There are many Souks (Shoppings areas) in A.D. and it is worth it to get to the main malls, the Gold Souk, the Carpet Souk and the Central Market. For souvenir hunters, the second floor of the Liwa Center is the place to go. Prices there are 1/2 of what you will find in some main tourist attractions (like the Heritage Village), but BUYER BE AWARE: many of the souvenirs are made in India and China. Know what you are looking for and Barter. Never pay the sticker price.
The Grand Millennium is well located, accessible, 31 stories with roof-top pool. Rooms are well-appointed and come with a tub and shower, room safe, and refrigerator. For the business traveler the work space is ample. I would not pick any other hotel. Even with several appointment in Dubai, I found it easier (and cheaper) to locate myself in A.D. and drive the 60 minutes to Dubai (the highway permits speeds up to 140km/hr)
A very special hotel. Check around for discounts on the hotel. While the posted price is 2500 AED ($680USD) per night, I only paid $101 but it varies by season. In January the weather is perfect, in July it is unbearably hot (120-130F) and event he locals fly to Europe or Malaysia for holiday.
