Three visits and three strikes...and you're OUT! The lazy service at Jones in Dubai is its biggest failing. I can't imagine how they are recruiting their waiters. The communication skills are simply not good enough. Too many blank stares. Too many wrong orders. After such an investment in the building and the stock they've scrimped on the most important thing - Good staff. There has been a manager in attendance during my visits but she seems to be chinwagging with diners rather than doing her job. She seems to be wearing blinkers to the disaster going on around her - or maybe she doesn't know how a good restaurant should operate. I took a moment to observe other tables and there were a lot of frustrated people trying to beckon the waiters who were camped in their stainless steel fortress in the middle of the store, avoiding work. A couple of other grumbles - on one visit I had the fish and chips - I didn't ask for a kiddy portion but that is what I got. The piece of fish was about the size of a fish finger - miserable. And it was the most tasteless piece of fish I'd ever eaten - it actually absorbed flavour from my mouth - a sensory inversion. And try to ask for a glass of tap water and you have to buy a bottle ....from Norway - heaven knows the carbon footprint on that thing - ever heard of sustainability Mr Jones?

If you ask for wireless at Jones the Grocer the answer is "the wireless is exclusively for the management". The staff here is quite young and a great mix of nationalities, but training obviously sucks.

I come here frequently for a casual bite. The food most of the time good (inconsistent), the ambience as others stated already "nice" but casual, the service is apart from the fact that it's all younger quite fun people from around the world seriously handicapped due to the lack of training.

The new managers roam around and play important, the guy who at first opened the place and seriously knew his business gone...

If you look for an overpriced but nice atmosphere bit in casual atmosphere than Jones the Grocer is despite it's downsides one of the better places in Abu Dhabi, doesn't really speak for the other restaurants in town, does it?

we have been waiting 75 minutes for 3 burgers, first order arrived and 20' later the others, only after several complains. Presentation and taste are not worth the price but eatable. Nice ambience but ... not enought to came back.

I've been to Jones the Grocer regularly since August, when I discovered that it was open in Ramadan during the daytime (suitably curtained to hide diners from being seen from outside).
This is not a regular coffee shop. It is also a deli and takeaway. Diners are seated at simple wood table surrounded by produce on shelves and in display cases. There is also a cheese room. Hot meals are cooked to order in the kitchen, which is open to the restaurant and adds to the high level of noise.
The clientele is informal and eclectic, which reflects the wide range of choices on the menu (in fact there is more than one menu and also a blackboard if you want to select from all options available).
The decor (I know that decor is irrelevant to some but it is part of the whole experience) is utilitarian and apart from the glass windows down one side there is hardly any wall space to be seen (due to food shelves and display cabinets). The air conditioning ducts are exposed and also fairly noisy. There are newspapers and magazines for diners to borrow.
I usually visit Jones the Grocer for a coffee or light meal at the weekend or after work. Sandwiches and wraps are avaiable - and always tasty. There are salads and hot dishes, soups and so on. But I often choose the cheese board and let the staff choose the cheese selection for me (you need to say if you have a preference for hard or soft cheeses). There's an extensive breakfast menu which I've also had the pleasure of enjoying. Brunches are popular on Friday/Satruday at the weekends but late in the afternoon it is fairly quiet.
This place (surprisingly) has a licence to serve alcohol. I'm always driving when I come here so have not looked at the wine list. There is also an impressive display of cakes and tarts, which look great but I don't eat them so can't report on them.
Service is variable. I have too many tales to tell here but for me this is the main disappointment with this place (although the last couple of visits have been better than average). Getting a menu and placing an order can take a long time. I lost count of the number of times there have been mistakes in the order or one item is brought late to the table. It is not a place to visit if you are in a hurry (use the takeaway section if you want quick service).
For those with children there is a children's menu and high chairs available. There are usually very few children here though.
The coffees are great. There is no local water available here - water is either from Norway or New Zealand!

Likes - Wide choice of wholesome food (including vegetarian); Informal atmosphere; usually easy to find parking nearby.
Dislikes - Service is patchy, ranging from abysmal to OK. But even then service is slow at best even when it is not busy; Noisy (from the air conditioning and kitchen).

Despite the issues I keep coming back as I like the food and the atmosphere.
