“Great hotel, but sad to see the UAE make the same mistakes”
Reviewed 21 June 2012

I stayed at the Park Hyatt for one night with my wife, using their all inclusive offer, which was great value.

On a positive note, the hotel is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. The food was excellent, although the main bar and restaurant didn't feel very intimate - high ceilings made the venues feel very 'hotel like'.

Sadly, this hotel seems to have been built in a rush. It baffles me that this sort of thing is still happening in the UAE.

You can imagine the conversation in the boardroom.

'Shall we spend millions on architects, fittings and landscaping to build a beautiful hotel?'

'Yes, but let's employ the cheapest bunch of idiots we can find to actually build it'.

There are plenty of things the Park Hyatt needs to fix for it to be a truly five star hotel.

The metal poles around the poolside area were rusty. Fittings in the room were loose and plug sockets fell out when used. Electronics flashed lights all night, disturbing our sleep. Polyfilla and bad paint jobs could be seen all over the room. The lift had some damaged decorative work that was left unfixed the whole time we were there. The AC had failed in the beachside restaurant during lunch, repair work was being done on the pool... Lots of little niggly things that suggested a rush job and, particularly in the case of the bedroom itself, that noone had done any proper snagging before handover. How can a brand new five star Park Hyatt hotel have a toilet flush unit that wobbles and falls out of the wall?

It would also be better if they split the pools, making one of them families only and the other adults only. It's hard to relax and read a book when certain families are letting their kids run wild around you.

If someone senior from Hyatt could take the time to scrutinise the whole hotel and get the contractors to finish things off to a high standard, this will be a truly excellent resort. It is still very good today, but too many visible niggles let it down.

My husband and I have just returned from a weekend stay at the Park Hyatt and cannot say enough about the excellent accommodation, food, beach, staff and general comfort offered by this amazing hotel. We had booked the All-Inclusive package, which included Room, Breakfast and unlimited Food and Beverages from a special list that was provided upon check-in. The cost was AED 1600 ++ per night.

The previous month/May we had stayed at the St. Regis Hotel next door, just to let you know that I have the other 5 star hotel on Saadiyat Island to compare with.

We arrived at 2pm for check-in to find the reception staff were very busy with guests checking in.
However, staff were attentive throughout our 5 minute wait before being attended to. Our reservation was all in order and dealt with efficiently. We were in Room 359 which was very spacious and super comfortable. The King Size bed mattress was a little too hard for my liking and was not placed on top of a box spring, rather wooden slats...which emphasized the firmness of the mattress even more.

We unpacked then headed down to the Cafe for the lunch buffet. Everything was fresh, tasty and of top notch quality. I had lobster tail with light cheese sauce, which was delightful. The selection of foods was varied and extremely good. Staff were run off their feet with requests for drinks, coffee, water etc. but again the wait was acceptable.

Next we explored the layout of the hotel. We found the Park Bar & Grill where we dined for Breakfast and Dinner twice. Not a large restaurant, but very cosy and well laid out for buffet breakfast in the morning. In the evening, the restaurant has a very intimate and exclusive feel to it, without feeling overly formal and stuffy.

The Park Bar & Grill staff were very helpful with menu suggestions, which helped us focus on what we were looking for on that particular evening. The kitchen area is open inside the restaurant and samples of menu items are visible under glass cloches. My only comment was my side salad was over-salted. Apparently the chef in charge is in love!!! So we had a laugh about that and moved on to dessert.

The shower is an open one. The slope of the floor didn't allow the water to run towards to floor drain and I slipped and almost fell to the floor on our first night. Thereafter I was very careful walking on the flooded wet floor after taking a shower.

The beach area at the Park Hyatt is better than the St. Regis, which has golf ball sized stones at water's edge. The sun loungers were very comfortable and the attendant frequently went around offering complimentary bottled water....much appreciated. No such detail offered at the St. Regis.

My husband used the gym facility (co-ed). The ladies' jacuzzi in the floor above had leaked and caused quite a bit of damage to the gym area ceiling. But all the equipment was top notch and in excellent working order.

I was surprised to find that wi-fi was an extra charge for us in the guest rooms. We did however use the Library area where wi-fi is free. A small but important thing that would have been appreciated.

The staff were very friendly and genuinely interested in how we were enjoying our stay. Daoud, the Executive Chef from Australia was always inquiring about our dining experiences. We has some interesting conversations about many other topics too.

Nicolai served us both in the Park Bar and at breakfast in the Park Grill. Specifically going out of his way to fetch blackberries and blueberries for my breakfast one morning.

We hope to experience more Hyatt Hospitality again very soon. Since we live in Al Ain it is highly possible. Perhaps you could even open a hotel in Al Ain :)

Room Tip: Room 359 had a lovely view of the Arabian Gulf. It overlooked the children's pool area, so be aw...

Located 15 minutes from Abu Centre and 90 minutes from Dubai the hotel was perfect for a break away from it all.

The hotel opened less than a year ago yet the service and attention was sleek and up to the highest Hyatt standards.

The Hotel was busy being a long weekend but did not "feel" busy... plenty of space around the pools and on the beach too, a nice touch was free bottled water served around the pool and on the beach and it was in plentyful supply too.

We stayed in one of the Park Suites, it was great with seperate lounge, dressing room, bedroom ,two covered balconies and a huge open balcony. The only fault was the wet room shower that allowed water into the main and huge bathroom complete with free standing bath.

Dinner in the Park Grill was what you expect from the signature restaurant of a 5* Hyatt Hotel - no complaints there, so too was breakfast, with a choice for all and cooked to order items on request.

Front desk was probably the most efficient and came into its own when we decided to extend our stay from one to two nights, all sorted within 5 mins.

The public areas of the hotel were tucked away and included the Residence.. a hugh lounge to relax in with views over the sea. It was to say the least very grand. I guess most guests do not even know it exists!

My wife did not want to leave... that says it all!!

Keep up the excellent work and thank you to ALL the staff for making it such a wonderfull weekend... despite the choice of hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi .. it will not be long before our next visit!

Room Tip: Pay a bit more and get a pool/sea view room. Pay even more a treat yourself to a Park Suite (especia...

Although I stayed for just a night I was truly stunned by the opulence of the hotel and my room - different, amazing, huge. The reception staff also walked me right upto my room (a 7min walk from the lobby).

But what surprisingly disappointed me for a hotel of this stature were simple things like:
1. No taxi booked for the next morning although I mentioned it to them the prior night.
2. No multicountry charger in the room - I had to ask for one which was then provided.
3. Placed the breakfast order on my doorknob at 2.45am after checking in (time limit was 3am). But when I opened the door in the morning, there it was-still hanging on the doorknob! They just forgot!
Now these things are probably excusable at a lower starred hotel but not at the Park Hyatt. Just left a bitter taste after surprising positively with the room.

Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi is a beautiful property located at Saadiyat Island.
Location is very good as it is around 15 min taxi ride from the city center and the airport is about a 30 min drive.
The property is beautiful and huge, it has around 300+ rooms and suits, 3 restaurants, and a coffee shop called the library.
The rooms are very beautiful and large, the bathroom is made with a new concept that we didn't like too much as the shower does not have any door, therefor the bathroom tends to get wet, we complained at the front desk with an issue related to the shower and they were very kind and upgraded us to the Park Suite that had a different bathroom layout to the standard sea view room. All rooms have an out door trace with a relaxing sofa, two chairs, a table, sealing fan and a good view. The suite had a yoga mat and yoga dvd in the room that we didn't use as we are not in to yoga, however a good touch.
There are four food outlets at the resort, the cafe is an all day dining restaurant. The breakfast buffet at the cafe was good with reasonably good options, the quality and freshness of food was also good however the fruite didn't tast as good, I think this is the case with UAE in general as fruites are imported or are grown in artificially controlled environment. The Beach House restaurant was very good, its a Mediterranean place with a spanish twist. The Library is a very nicely appointed and inviting place that serve chocolates, deserts, little snakes, tea and coffee, also there is free wireless internet available here. Room service was very effective and well presented. Didn't get a chance to go the one of the restaurants at the resort however I am sure it would have been good also.
The beach is very nice and it's natural, I think its very rare to find this in the UAE, in Dubai most resort beaches feel fake and manicured.
The pools are nice, definitely not for swimming laps, however good to just relax.
The spa is nice also, how ever the facilities are not up to the standard of other up market resorts, they have a couples section, a ladys section, and a mens section.
I think the best thing about the resort is its service, each and every staff member at this property was extremely nice and polite, they would know us by our last names and came up and ask if we needed help or assistance each time we passed the lobby and they always put up a big smile.
Suggestions for the management:
Please place a beach bag, beach slippers, and a ladys sarong in each room for the guests to use while staying at the resort.
Please have a server appointed at the beach and the pool area that goes around asking guests if they need any food or drinks.
Please have someone going around the pool and the beach area with cold towels as it tends to get very very hot.
Please have a welcome drink at check in.
Also please improve the turndown service, have a little something for the guests like a chocolate, or flowers or something to wow them when they return to the room at night.
Also the bed comfort is not as good as other up market hotels, please do something about this.
Most up market Hotels and resorts have such little touches to wow the guests and I feel it works.
As a whole we loved our stay thank you Park Hyatt staff for everything, including the Flawless service...

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the left side of the lobby as the walk is too long to some rooms on the right...
