It's an ' old hotel ' by UAE standards, I think I read somewhere that it was built in 1986 ...
My last visit to Abu Dhabi was 8 years ago and I stayed at this hotel and decided to stay here again for a week long visit in May 2011.
The hotel has not changed much in the 8 years and doubt if there has been too much change since it was constructed.
But here are some good points in my opinion :
I was given a corner suite, the same type I stayed in previously. A large balcony with a generous view of the corniche.
A small kitchen area, which consists of a cooker,. fridge and sink. There is wooden paneling to seal off the area, which when closed, you would not know it was there.
The large fridge comes on handy .... not bothered about cooking.
A large dining room, a large sitting room with a further balcony, sofa's and television. A huge bedroom
with fantastic pillows and an extremely comfortable bed. A large bathroom with water pressure that throws you accross the room. The bathroom is a little dark.
The room was serviced daily and no complaints there. Excellent selection of tv chanels.
There are generous closets, in fact, there is even a walk in one in the sitting room.
The pool, on the roof, is dated, like much of the hotel. But, a good sized pool, a fair number of loungers and a great view over the corniche.
A small coffee shop in the lobby and a hairdresser.
Abu Dhabi is not Dubai and hopefully, will continue with sympathetic construction.
I reference ' dated ' a number of times because in comparison to other hotels in the UAE, does not have the chintz and gimmic extravaganze of Dubai's new builds.
However, it's functional, clean, massive rooms and a perfect location almost in the middle of the Corniche.
There are 3 Hilton's in Abu Dhabi and the Hilton Abu Dhabi has the beach club. The Hilton Apartments do not offer free access to this. You receive a discount and make your own way. The Hilton Beach Club is located at the far end of the Corniche, almost walking distance to Marina Mall.
We paid 130 Dhs for 2 and frankly, a waste of money.
The beach is less than 1/2 km in length, lots of stones - the same as the public beach and all you receive is a lounger.
Development is taking place along the cornich in terms of the public beach, so much is closed off.
Here is a tip : Take a cab to the public beach, approx 6 dhs. 10 dhs per person entrance fee and 25 dhs per lounger ( which are better quality and more comfortable than the Hilton Beach Club ), you get an umbrella, lifeguards, pavement cafe's and surrounded by the same beach as the Hilton Beach Club only much, much longer if you prefer to tan by walking up and down. Retain your ticket, come and go as you please for the day.
Only, you need to bring your own towels.
I got a very good rate at the Hilton, but as we are moving towards the summer, rates fall and noticed the Millenium hotel, literally next door to the Hilton, are offering DHS 299 at the moment. It's a very new hotel, so shop around for a rate that suits your needs.
Cannot think of any manjor downside, 80dhs for 24 hour internet access ... which will always lend me towards Radisson for their free internet access when picking a hotel, but 80dhs is consistent with 4/5 star establishmets.
Photos of the room, view etc attached.
