Corniche Hotel Apartments

It's an ' old hotel ' by UAE standards, I think I read somewhere that it was built in 1986 ...
My last visit to Abu Dhabi was 8 years ago and I stayed at this hotel and decided to stay here again for a week long visit in May 2011.

The hotel has not changed much in the 8 years and doubt if there has been too much change since it was constructed.
But here are some good points in my opinion :

I was given a corner suite, the same type I stayed in previously. A large balcony with a generous view of the corniche.
A small kitchen area, which consists of a cooker,. fridge and sink. There is wooden paneling to seal off the area, which when closed, you would not know it was there.
The large fridge comes on handy .... not bothered about cooking.
A large dining room, a large sitting room with a further balcony, sofa's and television. A huge bedroom
with fantastic pillows and an extremely comfortable bed. A large bathroom with water pressure that throws you accross the room. The bathroom is a little dark.

The room was serviced daily and no complaints there. Excellent selection of tv chanels.
There are generous closets, in fact, there is even a walk in one in the sitting room.

The pool, on the roof, is dated, like much of the hotel. But, a good sized pool, a fair number of loungers and a great view over the corniche.

A small coffee shop in the lobby and a hairdresser.

Abu Dhabi is not Dubai and hopefully, will continue with sympathetic construction.
I reference ' dated ' a number of times because in comparison to other hotels in the UAE, does not have the chintz and gimmic extravaganze of Dubai's new builds.
However, it's functional, clean, massive rooms and a perfect location almost in the middle of the Corniche.

There are 3 Hilton's in Abu Dhabi and the Hilton Abu Dhabi has the beach club. The Hilton Apartments do not offer free access to this. You receive a discount and make your own way. The Hilton Beach Club is located at the far end of the Corniche, almost walking distance to Marina Mall.
We paid 130 Dhs for 2 and frankly, a waste of money.
The beach is less than 1/2 km in length, lots of stones - the same as the public beach and all you receive is a lounger.

Development is taking place along the cornich in terms of the public beach, so much is closed off.
Here is a tip : Take a cab to the public beach, approx 6 dhs. 10 dhs per person entrance fee and 25 dhs per lounger ( which are better quality and more comfortable than the Hilton Beach Club ), you get an umbrella, lifeguards, pavement cafe's and surrounded by the same beach as the Hilton Beach Club only much, much longer if you prefer to tan by walking up and down. Retain your ticket, come and go as you please for the day.
Only, you need to bring your own towels.

I got a very good rate at the Hilton, but as we are moving towards the summer, rates fall and noticed the Millenium hotel, literally next door to the Hilton, are offering DHS 299 at the moment. It's a very new hotel, so shop around for a rate that suits your needs.

Cannot think of any manjor downside, 80dhs for 24 hour internet access ... which will always lend me towards Radisson for their free internet access when picking a hotel, but 80dhs is consistent with 4/5 star establishmets.

The location is on the cornich location but parking is unreachable. The facilities are old and the entrance is ugly.

This was one of the best 4 star hotels I´ve stayed in in Abu Dhabi: fantastic location next to the Capitalo Garden, Hamdan St, a number of restaurants and, of course, the Corniche. The staff was nice and the cleaning staff in particular did a great job. A large and high-quality breakfast buffet was included in the price and the room included a small kitchen. The hotel is old, but in good condition. The only big minus was the expensive and (typically for the UAE) slow Internet connection.

Room and public areas were clean and quiet.
Staff was very friendly and always ready to help!
Location is great, near by the sea. Breakfast was also very good.
This hotel was really value for money.

Only minus was that Hotels.com informed a free parking but there
wasn't. That caused us some extra work because you can pay parking only
with certain coins or special parking card.

I would say that the staff at this seasoned hotel was it's best asset. Yes, the hotel is a little dated, and could use a face lift sooner than later to keep up with Abu Dhabi's rapidly-changing skyline, but it certainly can certainly accommodate your needs. There's a self-service laundry that's free, and powder detergent is provided. There's also a dry-cleaning service just across the street if you don't feel like doing your own laundry and also don't feel like paying for the expensive laundry service. There's a great breakfast buffet every morning with a taste for every culture. There's even a gym and pool on the 19th floor with a nice view of the waterfront. There's a mini stove in the rooms as well, but the refrigerator isn't very big. There's even a salon on the ground floor. Above all these amenities, the service was still its greatest feature. I was greeted by name after the 1st night (42 total nights) and knew at that point that I was going to be taken care of. I haven't been disappointed by Hilton yet, and this was no exception.

I stayed at the Hilton Corniche for 5 nights in November/December 2010.

I had been booked into a 'deluxe sea view room', however, on arrival, was given a dingy, smoking room with twin beds. I asked to be moved to a non smoking double, but the only room available was another dingy twin overlooking the car park, albeit non smoking. Aside from the twin beds, the room was comfortable (although not deluxe!), the bathroom of a good standard, although I really dislike material shower curtains in a hotel. I also think the internet charges were high- it should have been free for the price of the room.

I had a couple of days off, and visited the big mosque (worth a trip), the Marina Mall (very very pricey) and the Emirates Palace hotel (great food). There is surprisingly little to do in AD, so the beach, although non tidal and there was a lot of rubbish in the sea, and the gym, were popular places. The pool bar/cafe was of a pretty good standard. Beach towels are provided at the beach.

Breakfast at the hotel was buffet style, with an omelette chef. The food was always hot and seemed freshly made. I had room service one lunchtime and that was not very nice and took 40 minutes to arrive. Evening meals were good, particularly the Italian restaurant.

The hotel has a couple of bars, which I've heard reasonable comments about but did not visit.

needed a room for one night, but wasnt flying out till 2am the day after, so booked in here because a) I collect Hilton points and b) it was only about US$150 per night, so 2 nights here same cost as one night in most other places, Adequate with nothing not to like, but wouldnt vacation there.
