On holiday we styled for 3 nights between 3 at Qasr al Sarab (excellent) and moving on to the Banyan Tree in the Seychelles (very good) from where this is written.

The hotel is very centrally located just off the Corniche and would be ideal if we were on a business trip that most others seemed to be. We had a non-smoking room on floor 2 that was fine if rather bland and characterless.

Breakfasts was good with first class patisseries, dinner was OK and the grazing in the foyer on the 24 hour nibble bar afforded by having half board was good.

Staff were efficient on the front desk but the bar staff were slow and disinterested. The lounge was populated by business men on their own looking board and reading their blackberries.

Apart from the Sheik Zahed mosque that is well worth seeing, Abu Dhabi is boring. Ferrari world is an overpriced red Disneyland and the souks (Iranian, Carpet and Central) all bland, only the fish souk was of any interest.

Hiding behind the swimming pool is PJ O'Reilly's an Irish pub full of fat, boring ex-pat misogenists all talking loudly about home - QED.

Our last night was a Friday with a wedding in the reception hall directly below us. With a 5am departure for the airport we had to ask to move away from the noise. Gym was OK.

Room Tip: Go high to avoid the noise and go to Muscat and stay at the Chedi to avoid the ersatz atmosphere of...

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to write the review.
We have taken notes of your comments about the service and are looking into that.
Also apologies for the noise from the ballroom, indeed some wedding parties tend to be loud but we are happy to read that the staff have relocated you to a higher floor as soon as you have made that request.
Best regards,
Shaun P.

I went to meet a close friend at this hotel for New Years. I was quite happy with my club room...quite spacious and comfy!

My friend on the other hand had a smaller room which was rather a disappointment after seeing mine.

We went to the supposed Exec Lounge for happy hour drinks only to find it is just a corner of the regular lobby lounge! The service was incredibly slow...and the snacks were not appetising!

We had breakfast in the coffee shop which was ok... But not great.. I wouldn't stay here again.

Thank you once again for staying with us and we hope to welcome you back when all work is done;we are confident the new product will meet your expectations.

As an SPG Member, I spent two pleasant weeks at Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi, I stayed in a beautiful newly renovated Deluxe Suite with a magnificent view. Many services and common areas, however, are not up to the hotel's category. The recepton and lobby area, the restaurants, the outdoor pool area and the spa are to be renewed immediately! The service is a little disorganized, the location in the financial district is very bad for leisure travelers.
A special thanks to the Resident Manager Herr Kristof Lauxmann, thank you very much for all the attention that You have dedicated to me.

Room Tip: Book only recently renovated rooms.

We stayed for a week and we had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is very central, you reach the Corniche in 5 minutes.
The first room they offered (room 1209) which was meant to be an upgrade (I hold a gold card for their chain) in the grandly named 'Royal Tower' was terrible, it had unrestricted views over a flat roof and a wall. I refused and the room we were given was very good (room 1609) with a wonderful sea view. It's advisable to ask for a refurbished room with sea view to be on the safe side.
It's a business rather than a beach hotel (there is a second Meridien hotel which has more of a beach flavour). There is a small pool with deck chairs. Swimming pool areas in centrally situated hotels tend to be small and surrounded by other buildings.
Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were clean and tidy. The breakfast buffet was extensive and offered something for everybody, from continental breakfast to Indian dishes. The Opera restaurant offered a buffet and an a la carte menu. We had a seafood buffet which was very good with lots of choice. I would give the Italian restaurant (Amalfi) which is part of the hotel a miss: the decor is dated, the food is nothing special, I found the cost of close to £ 14 for a glass of fairly ordinary wine prohibitive. The revolving restaurant is special though.
My complaints: (1) they charge for Internet usage which irritates me, especially in a business hotel, (2) attention to detail was somewhat lacking (tables for breakfast invariably had something missing: a cup, a spoon), (3) there is not enough staff at check-in / reception, there was always a queue and it took about 20 minutes to get checked in.
I would go back if I needed a centrally situated hotel - for a real chill out I would choose something different, probably the Westin Resort (we had a look see trip and we were very impressed with the facilities and the general ambience)

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room with sea view, beware of rooms in the Royal Tower, we were offered room 1...

Everything a decent hotel of this level sould be. Wifi free for Starwood members, nice rooms, revolving restaurant on top, although I didn't use it. Went there wishing to eat Middle Eastern, as it is classified on TA, but in fact just international, steaks etc so decided to eat out as wanted to east Lebanese. Staff are friendly and efficient, decent breakfast. Overall, highly recommended.
