Le Meridien Abu Dhabi
Ranked #65 of 128 Hotels in Abu Dhabi
Reviewed 20 October 2010

We were pleasantly surprised with Le Meridien having read some of the reviews - I wondered if it was the same hotel! I chose Le Meridien on cost, location (beach and mall) and because it is low-rise (I am not a fan of high rise hotels). Found it very comfortable and even luxurious compared to the hotels we had stayed at in Europe for a similar price. Refused to pay D95 for foul medames in the hotel restaurant but Abu Dhabi Mall is a short 5 minute walk away and plenty of food outlets there. Staff were mainly helpful and friendly and taxis easy to get. Our confirmed room was not available the first night, flight being slightly delayed, but we were upgraded that night and moved no problem to our preferred room the next day. The grounds are pleasantly landscaped and there are a number of eating locations on site - sportsbar, English type bar, Thai etc.

The Le Meridien clearly has seen better days. It should have been a warning to me that there is a Royal Meridien in the City as well.

The room was dated and for the price definitely too small, the aircondition too loud for having it switched on during the night. Without it the room quickly became hot. Very hard to sleep under those conditions. In fact I barely slept, which did not bode well for the meetings I had to attend.

The Le Meridien does not seem to be a business hotel. The restaurants seemed more to cater to tourists. The supplement of power outlets in the room was unsufficient. I had to pull out the power plug of one of the phones to get access to one needed power outlet.

Breakfast was good. The rest of the food was not worth of the money.

Overall I was not impressed with the hotel. I do not recommend it.

Dear RoccoSiffredi1968,
Thank you for sharing your opinion about our hotel.
I deeply regret unsatisfactory experience you had with the room and the air conditioning; however I would like to assure you that this issue is absolutely not common to all the rooms, this is an unusual complaint. I hope we will have the opportunity to host you again soon and we will make sure to provide you with a quieter room.
Our hotel hosts business and leisure guests as we propose facilities and services adapted to the expectations and requirements of both clientele types. We offer a lot of different cuisines thanks to our Chefs coming from all over the world, France, New Zealand, Thailand, India, Russia, etc. Our Thai restaurant, Talay, has been awarded Best South East Asian restaurant of Abu Dhabi in 2010.
Looking forward to seeing you again in our establishment,
Sincerely,

I again got a very good deal this time from this hotel, it turned out to be cheaper then the hotel i normally stay in Abu Dhabi (Hala Arjaan By Rotana) down the road. The deal was without break fast ofcourse, but i was keen to stay in the hotel as most of my meetings were in the vicinity and also my distributor is located in that area. The fitness center was great with lot of options and ofcourse they have good swimming pool (3 of them if i am not wrong) and range of restraunts in house. The room was very good and neat and well placed, the internet is chargeable but its not very expensive and speed was also good.

I stayed in this hotel for a week on a recent trip to Abu Dhabi. At first impression, the hotel (and the room) was a little tired and could do with an update. Having said that, my entire stay at Le Meridien was very enjoyable. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly. Once you get to the hotel, you really don't need to leave, as there are numerous choices for restaurants and bars on site, as well as lots of fitness options. If you get bored with all of this, the Abu Dhabi Mall is a very short walk away. The one negative of this hotel is unfortunately the road construction that's currently going on in the Tourist Club area of Abu Dhabi, which makes the journey to / from the hotel a bit chaotic.

Dear mitchellroad,
Thank you very much for staying at our hotel during your visit in Abu Dhabi.
I am glad that you enjoyed our hotel and the service provided by our staff. We indeed have around 10 restaurants & bars which allow us to offer various dining options such as Thai, French, Italian and English pub grub specialties.
Be informed that in fact the access to the hotel has improved as the road construction is progressing.
Thanks again for your kind comments and I hope to welcome you back during your next visit in the Emirates.

We heard that the Talay Restaurant was great so living in Dubai we thought we'd venture to Le Meridien for one night. One night too many!

Getting to Le Meridien from Dubai took 1 hour which was great.

Entire hotel is very old, decor, furniture, style, quality shows this.

We stayed in the delux room on the SPG floor which was okay. The room was pretty small but nothing to complain about. Bathroom was more like 2 Star finishings, plastic bath and toilet seat and taps very 70s - not in a retro way!
Room had a dirty feeling as everything was quite stale and although was a non smoking room, it smelt very smokey. The TV is OLD! cant remember the last time i hadnt watched something in widescreen, They should also offer movies as pay on demand - most hotel have this facility. The only thing nice about the bedroom was the bed - very comfortable.

Main complaint was the smokey smell - it is indeed as referred to by another reviewer as "smokers paridise". Horrible! You would think that the hotel would inforce the no smoking ban indoors as per the rest of the world! Even Dubai is on board with this.

The bars/pubs that are part of the hotel felt very intmidating if you were a woman/women as there are mostly men, smoking and drinking. In fact there were a lot of single men in the hotel which we noticed even more so at breakfast! not a family feel.

Swimming pool was akin to a cheap hotel you would find in the party areas of Spain....sunbeds practically on each other in rows and had no sense of space/luxury or class. Not appealing!

Talay restaurant was not any better! For the price we would expect 5 star Thai cuisine but it was very bland (not something you would say about Thai food) and the presentation was very cheap looking. Not impressed.

The breakfast buffet was 75AED p/p which we had to pay in addition to our room was nice. Great selection of pork products (apart from the Sausages), waffles and drinks. The omlet station was extremely slow and considering there were only 10 people in the restaurant it took 20 mins from him to prepare my scrambled eggs!

Overall, not a pleasant experience, in fact we checked out 4 hours before we had to and couldnt wait to get back to our apartment in Dubai!

Knock down the hotel and rebuild it - probably cheaper to do that that redecorate! Initiate the no smoking indoors policy, get rid of the sleezy bars and get better restaurants then i'll be back.

Dear LambChopDubai,
Thanks for your review. It helps us to improve the service and facilities that we offer to our guests.
Le Meridien Abu Dhabi is one of the first hotels built in Abu Dhabi and we believe it adds to its charm. Our associates always make effort to offer a high quality service to our guests.
We follow a strict non-smoking policy in designated non smoking areas as per the local law regulations and we launched a brand new sustainable restaurant concept at Le Bistrot – Sustainable Cuisine which is totally non-smoking.
We take pride in our outlets as the Meridien Village offers a diversity of cuisines and attractions. I would like to underline that Talay, our Thai restaurant has been awarded the “Best South East Asian” restaurant by Time Out Abu Dhabi and is one of the most popular restaurants in town, but we understand that peoples individual tastes may vary.
Our guests are both leisure and business and our facilities (swimming pools, spa, gardens...) meet a great success with our leisure guests.
We would like to have the opportunity to welcome you again and provide you with our best service and for you to have a more pleasant stay.
Sincerely,
Cyrielle

This is a 3-4 star hotel. It looks like it could do with a refresh - lobby and rooms look very dated and facilities are pretty average. I chose thise hotel because it was on the beach but in May the water at the beach was so warm that it was not pleasant to swim and and the view is straight onto construction and massive pylons. The pool is fine with a lot of sun lounges and a good amount of space. There is very little food/beverage service coming to you at your sun lounge and if you wander over to the bar its often a long wait to find someone there to serve you. Also, be warned , that as a solo traveller the hotel does serve as a membership club for expatriates and come the Arabic weekend (Fri/Sat) the pool is completely over run with families (plus their nannies) and the squealing and screaming of kids in the pool is pretty intense and lasts the whole day.

The hotel is conveniently situated next to the Abu Dhabi Mall and the upstairs food court provides much cheaper dining options than the hotel and there's a big co-operative supermarket and cinema in there too.

Overall I found this hotel dated and bordering on unfriendly and the dining was overpriced. It would not be a hotel I chose to stay at again.

As for Abu Dhabi city, as a whole the excursions are extortionately priced and there is very little of interest to see (compared to Dubai for example). The new mosque is probably the only exception - it is breathtaking - but take a cab there and back - much more econonomical than a tour. The mosque is free to visit - note that no matter how modestly you are dressed you are obliged to wear the full abaya and headcover that they provide.

Thank you for sharing your impressions about our hotel.
We try to offer to our guests a pleasant time and our outlets are a major entertainment as they offer different cuisines and diversity for wide range of tastes.
We are known as one of the most popular hotels in town where you can find a warm and friendly service, so was surprised to read you found us bordering on unfriendly. I really hope we will have you again as our guest in the future.

This hotel could do with a new look. Its facilities are fine, its next door to abu dhabi mall, there are restaurants etc in the vicinity and the service is quite good but the hotel just lacks what you would expect in modern day UAE.

The walls between rooms are paper thin and you hear everything that goes on in the next room, there is no free internet and the nightlife nearby is crawling with prostitutes!

Surely there is better out there - try le royal meridien instead.
