“Excellent Beach Club Facilities”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2010

What fantastic Beach club Facilities, 2 outdoor large Swimming pools, ( heated ) Gym, Sauna, Solarium, Massage, Etc, Weather was excellent 27 degrees full sun, rising to 30 degrees as we got into February. The hotel was accross a 6 laned road from the beach which you got to via an underpass which to us was fine. The Hotel rooms were very clean with fantastic soft white fluffy towels changed daily, room service was good, we were on the back of the hotel over looking the air Conditioning units which inside was quite noisy, as another guest had previously mentioned. There is building work going on either side of the hotel but it is not that bad. It did not bother us. We stayed club executive which gave you access to the executive lounge which provided the most delicious Hors Deuves, between 12 to 3.30pm and then 6 to 8.30pm. alcohol was served between these times and also up to 11pm free. breakfast was nice, you can get veal bacon and beef sausages etc. You can also dine in the downstairs breakfast area which does have more selection ie, Omelettes cooked fresh to your liking. Fried eggs, the tea was hotter though in the exec lounge so we ate their. We dined at Vascos a couple of nights which overlooked the gulf. You can eat inside or out and if it is chilly they have heat lamps available. We did not need one though. Food was fantastic, steak and lamb we can definately recommend. The chips are excellent also. Marina Mall ( well worth a visit ) is a 15 minute walk away or Taxi 80p, the white or black limosines as they call them over there will charge slightly more maybe £2.00 but both good value for money. When you go back to the airport they have porters which charge 10Dhs to take your cases to the check in desks, they swoop on you very quickly and before your realise they are loading your cases on to a trolley, no need for this if you have wheels on yours as it is literally accross the road. Overhall a great stay. Executive club did have internet access free. Would definatley go back

This is my second stay at the Abu Dhabi Hilton, this time with my all family. We picked up this hotel since we had a first great stay and we were not wrong. Even if the hotel is not so luxorious as you may expect in the UAE, the old-style Hilton atmosphere is just great. For those who travelled at the Hilton in the 80s, you may recall the home feeling when get in the Hilton. Everyone in the hotel are friendly and very helpful, the beach and the pools are great for a family, the food is excellent and the prices overall good. The rooms are not the biggest I have ever seen but clean, sometimes noisy but OK. They should be allow free connectio for everybody in teh hotel.

Expensive and rundown, this hotel had rooms that reminded me of a cheap motel in the US...except that motels cost $40 a night and this hotel charged $300+

The good points:
Location - right opposite the corniche and a stone's throw from Marina Mall and heritage village. Easily accessed by excellent mult-lane roads. Easy (but not particularly secure) parking behind the hotel. All-up, far easier than I expected.

Friendly and helpful (but not always efficient) service. Concierge was helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Hotel offers free shuttle to and from the Grand Mosque (great idea). The shuttle has to be booked, but the morning we went, either too many bookings had been taken, or (more likely) people who hadn't booked were allowed to board: result - too many people, not enough seats. Eventually we were all shuttled to the mosque, but the process was unnecessarily messy and drawn-out.

Fabulous beach club with well-equipped health club. Gorgeous facilities, friendly staff, beautiful pools all with lifeguards who seemed conscientious in their jobs. (Hooray! Too often in the M.E., "guards" turn a blind eye to bad behaviour.)

Pleasant small-ish rooms with lots of extras; water bottles, fruit platters, chocolates with turn-down service, prompt (but not always accurate) room service, tea-and-coffee making facilities, flutty towels sculpted into "elephants", bathrobes, safe, hair dryer, make-up mirror, internet access.

Fast lifts, good choice of restaurants onsite, gracious 1970s 5-star lobby and water views.

The not-so-good points:
Badly-fitting curtains which left the rooms flooded with green light all night from the (green) spotlights lighting up the front of the hotel. Surely they could do better than this!!!!

Traffic noise despite double-glazed windows, although nothing a pair of earplugs couldn't cope with.

Very small bathrooms - shower over bath, with a fabric shower curtain. No matter how hard you tried, the bathroom flooded when you had a shower.

The fridge was locked shut with a cable tie, so unless you wanted to risk debating whether you'd used any minibar items, you couldn't use the fridge for your own milk etc, which was a minor nuisance.

These are quite minor points, however. All-up, this is a really nice, gracious old (by Abu Dhabi standards, i.e. 1973) hotel, with to-die-for beach club. My elderly parents, who had stayed in Marriotts and Hiltons around the Middle East, declared it their best hotel yet, and if there was any annoyance with the room noise/light, it sooned vanished when the family saw the beach club. All of us would happily stay there again.

I booked this hotel on the Cornice in Abu Dhabi having read the reviews on Trip Advisor especially about the wonderful service, and we were really really pleased with it - so "well done" all those other guests and thanks for helping us.
We booked Executive rooms which entitled us to use the Executive Lounge which was a real benefit to us all. As previous reviews mentioned, it is really good value for money as it provides breakfast, and virtual all day lovely snacks and beverages, and in the evening cocktails and excellent canapes. Excellent and charming service. It also proved a good meeting place for various ages. The hotel has many different areas within and outside at the beach club and lots of swimming pools as well as its own beach, so you never feel crowded.
We thoroughly recommend it and hope to go back.

(Our cab from Dubai airport at 5am to the Abu Dhabi Hilton cost just 280 AED, which included surcharges for the Airport pick-up and night rate - nothing relevant to the hotel review but I thought I'd tell you anyway :-) )
The receptionist was keen to sign me up to the Hilton Honors program but wasn't so keen getting my luggage sent to my room and we waited 45mins before I went and collected it myself - not the best welcome from a 5* hotel. The room itself was also a bit of a disappointment. It looked quite dated and smelt a bit fusty/smoky although the views of the Corniche and the breakwater were good. The bathroom was quite a shock - the shower head was on a loose pipe over the bath and, although it was generally clean, there were multiple shades of tile grouting all over the walls where it had been patched up - it was in need of a complete refurb.
Breakfast was always a strange affair as a small number of diners were tourists, ready to hit the beach, but the majority were business people in more formal attire. On one occasion, after spending too long at the toaster, we got back to find our table had been cleared by the waiter - fruit juice, coffee and all. This happened to a number of diners during our stay and in the end my wife and I took it in turns going to the buffet whilst the other guarded the table - the staff were friendly enough but a bit too keen!!
On the plus side the pools were fantastic, the Arabic cafe by the beach was nice of an evening and the concierge was very helpful for booking trips and giving local shopping advice.
It wasn't a really bad hotel but I don't think we'll be dashing back to the Hilton or Abu Dhabi - Dubai offers a much higher standard of hotels for a similar price.

I am a travel agent in Brisbane and have stayed in 229 hotels in 97 cities in 37 countries, so I feel I am a good judge of a hotel.

We stayed here for four nights mid November, in an Executive Club King Room. Upon arrival at Abu Dhabi Airport, our booked and confirmed transfer to the hotel was not there to greet us. This was not a problem though, as the company they use for the transfers quickly organised us a car and driver, and we could still charge this to our room.

Upon arrival at the hotel, at midnight, check-in was friendly and efficient. We knew that we were coming to quite an old hotel, so our expectations were realistically not that high.

The Executive Club King Rooms were the same as all the others, the only difference being they were on the higher floors, and they allowed access to the Executive Club Lounge with complimentary breakfasts and evening drinks and nibblies. The room itself was very comfortable, with flat screen TV, and as we were in a sea facing room, the view was spectacular. The bathroom was quite small, with the shower being over the bath. This is to be expected from an older hotel, and there's nothing they can do about it.

Housekeeping were great, and each afternoon we returned to our room it was spotless. On a number of occasions we required room service, such as ice and champagne glasses, and this was always fast and efficient.

The Executive Club Lounge was a bit hit n miss. On our first morning we ate our breakfast in the Lounge, and all the pre-prepared hot food was stone cold. The range and choice of the buffet in the Lounge was quite good, but not great. We were advised upon check-in that we could also use the main breakfast restaurant, and we did this on our next three mornings. Here the range of choice was far superior than the Lounge, and the food was hot. At least the hotel gives you this option, as many Executive Club arrangements in other hotels do not give you the option to have breakfasts in the main restaurant.

The actual Lounge itself was pretty ordinary by todays standards, but one must keep in mind that this hotel was built before Executive Lounges came into vogue. It appeared that the Lounge was converted bedrooms, with their walls knocked out to make a decently large area. Apart from the evening drinks and nibblies, they also put on Morning Tea snacks, Lunch time snacks, and Afternoon Tea snacks. As far as value for money is concerned, the complimentary evening drinks and snacks could not be beaten. Most hotel's Executive Lounges offer this for just a couple of hours, usually from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. The Hilton's goes from 6.00pm to 11.00pm. Five hours! Considering the price of wine in the UAE, this was amazing.

For the leisure traveller, it's the Beach Club that makes this hotel. Accessible by an under road pedestrian tunnel, at the front of the hotel, the Beach Club has three swimming pools, two restaurants, a beautiful beach, and never a shortage of deck chairs. This club is not just used by hotel guests, as members of the public can pay an annual membership to belong.

The hotel has quite an array of restaurants, again depending on not only hotel guests, but also the outside public. Apart from the all day dining restaurant where we had our breakfasts, La Terrazza, we had a dinner in the Thai restaurant, Royal Orchid, and a dinner at Vasco's, which is a fine dining restaurant, down at the beach. We are both very keen on thai food, the quality and authenticity of the food here was fantastic. Vasco's, specialising in seafood, was also great, although quite expensive. The casual restaurant at the Beach Club, the Coconut Grove, where we had our lunches, was quite good, the stand-out being the size of the servings. All the meals we had there were huge. We did not eat in the other three restaurants, another fine dining restaurant called BICE, a south american restaurant called Hemmingways, and a lebanese restaurant called Mawal.

Finally, despite its age, we would not hesitate in reccommending this hotel. The staff were all friendly and efficient, and our stay was most enjoyable. The restaurants we ate in were of a high quality, and the staff in the restaurants also friendly and efficient.
