“An evening to remember at Spice Mela”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

Probably the very best Indian meal I've ever eaten and up there with the best of all meals I've eaten in any restaurant. The location, service and, above all, the food, are outstanding. The chef came out to meet all the diners and explained all about what we had eaten. I can't recommend any particular item because it was all so perfect.

Certainly not cheap but the quality makes it good value. If you can, just go.

“Syed Mujtaba: I claim this is the best Indian restaurant in town - what say?”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We have dined at Ushna (Dubai and Abu Dhabi), Indigo (Rotna Abu Dhabi), Rangoli, and a few others.....and thought we have already tasted some of the best dishes Indian restauants had to offer in Abu Dhabi/Dubai.....but we were taken by surprise!!

Spice Mela at the Rosewood in the Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi is the best Indian Restaurant in Abu Dhabi and perhaps the UAE as well!! Each dish on their menu is a signature dish and is the tastiest Indian food you will have in a 5 star and/or a non-5 star property in town!!!

We were there last Sunday, 15/06/14 for dinner.

They are ideally located inside the Rosewood and they boast one of the best Indian Culture inspired interior - the ambience is very good/pleasant, lighting is perfect and we sat in a secluded or slightly private dining area for families which had spaciious seating and we also got fre wifi during our short time.

We walked in late for dinner and though they close by 11 PM, they stayed on until 12:45 AM, patiently, until we finished, not once letting us feel that we were overstaying for a long time!! Kudos, to their customer service!

We let the waiter guide us through their speciality and ended being more than satisfied with what was served. Unlike in other restaurants, the portion sizes were not overhwelming, but were fulfilling and it was really Quality over Quantity.

We had the Kebab Platter for startes followed by Curry Platter (I SIMPLY LOVED THE LAMB CURRY...) with Roti, Chilli Cheese Naan and Garlic Naan. The startes was just the right serving and the maincourse too was the right serving size and not overwhelming.....and the food was just too good to taste and so was the presentation!!

The taste of the food and the presentation - both had a significant "WOW" factor making the dining experience truly enjoyable and memorable!!

Then we came to the dessert were we had Gulab Jamun with Chocolate and Rasmalai - boy oh boy! - that was the best Gulab Jamun ever with Chocolate filling and the Rasmalai was too good....once again the presentation was simply too visually appealing to be real!!

A special mention to the drinks we ordered at the beginning - The Coconut Lime Lassi - I have never seen this on the menu of other restaurants and was very delightfully delicious....

Overall, this restaurant truly deserves a 5 out of 5. Though this was pricy (in comparison to other similar options) with the bill at Dhs 1,380 for 3 heads......it was well worth it and they made every penny count...all the way through to the dessert....simply awesome!!

“Delicious Food! Superb Service!”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

I read multiple reviews about Spice Mela before making the decision to try it our and I was really gald I did! The restaurant has a nice cozy setting and ambience. We were seated at a table by the window that gave us a beautiful view of the city. We were the first ones there for that evening and the service staff were all well dressed and well groomed. They were also very courteous and had the warmest and most welcoming smiles.
The menu is not very extensive and also not very traditional but that is precisely the beauty of it. Many of the options looked good and we were having a tough time decising which is when our wonderful server Ciril stepped in and made some great recommendations. He was very knowledgeable and was able to make recommendations in line with our expectations.
As from previous reviews the first dish that arrived at the table was the complimentary homemade chips basket which was fresh, crisp and delicious. This was accompanied by 3 sauces, a lemon pickle, a rose petal powder and a mango chutney. They were all delicous but the sweet potat chips and the mango chutney were the high lights of this dish.
This was followed by our starter, the star fried calamari. This was a good dish and had some great flavours but we personally felt that the calamari was not up to the mark and was a bit chewy. Easily our least favourite dish of the evening.
On our server Ciril's recommendation, we both ordered the curry tasting platter for our main course. This included the Calcutta Prawn Curry, The Konkan Chicken Curry, Chukandar Ghost (Lamb), Bhindi Singhara Do Pyaza (Okra) and Aged Basmati Rice. This platter exceeded our expectations and the some!! Each curry was scrumptious! The prawns were huge and cooked perfectly in a rich and flavourful coconut base. It was my favourite of the platter. My friend's favourite was the lamb that was so succulently cooked in a tomato base. The chicken curry and the okra was also wonderful and cooked in the freshest of ingridients thus giving us a burst of flavour with every bite. I have before enjoyed such delicious Indian food anywhere else in Abu Dhabi.

At the end of our main course we were so full and barely had any room for dessert but looking at their dessert line up (best described as classic with a twist) couldn't help indulging in one to share. We decided on the Chocolate Wattalapam which was simply divine! The cubes of chocolate tart, topped with a scoop of coconut ice cream and a burnt sugar wafer was the perfect end to our perfect meal! We left completely satiated and with a vow to return soon!

On a side note, I have to also mention that the cutlery and utensil selection at this restaurant was beautiful. Most top notch places that I have been to before have the standard and classic all white fare whereas the utensils at spice mela such as their intricately carved curved spoons and their lightly patterned flowered bowls was definitely a nice little touch on the finer details of this resaturant.

Our sincere compliments to the chef and the service staff especially Ciril.

Thank you Spice Mela for such a memorable and scrumptious meal!

“Stunning food scenery and wine”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

One of the best meals that I have had to date in Abu Dhabi - and I have been to some of the other highly rated restaurants on here in AD, but as an all-rounder Spice Mela wins hand down. The food, service and wine was simply faultless.

I had the tasting menu and accompanying wines when I visited. Each course of the food was stunning and the wine perfectly complimented it. We left Spice Mela feeling content happy and full and will definitely be returning!
