This was our second visit to the Shangri La and we will definitely be going back at some point - its perfect for a bit of winter sunshine to banish the UK cold weather blues :-)
This time we were in the main hotel rather than an apartment block and we have to say we have no real preference - the apartment was lovely but then so was our 3rd floor room with a sea view too.
We arrived early in the morning and were pleasantly surprised to find our room ready for us which was a nice bonus - our room attendant Malek was very good and really friendly - he really couldnt do enough for us - even getting me some different fruit when I left a note for him.
We always go to the pools further away from the hotel as the ones near it can get very busy - its easy just stroll along through the souk - out the other door and just a bit further on are a couple more beaches and pools which are for use by Shangri La guests - very quiet when we were there but there is always an attendant there to get you your towels and some complementary bottled water in a cool box.
Breakfast is a delight - never have I seen such an array of food to suit everybody - not sure I could ever do the chocolate fountain or hot banana and chocolate pudding that early but each to their own.
We were looking forward to eating in the Italian restaurant in the Souk but it had sadly closed down - we tried the Lebanese restaurant instead - reasonably cheap but dont expect any pleasantries or even necessarily the right drinks !! - The Indian in the Souk is superb , pricey but worth it and also the Meat Co was good which was a surprise as I thought it was going to be a bit basic - we did eat in the hotel buffet one night and whilst again the choice was good be careful with your drinks - a glass of wine up in the bar cost us 35 Dirham - an almost identical one in the Sofra Bld was 65 !!! - should have queried it I guess but we were tired and decided not to bother - next time we'll buy upstairs and take them down if possible.
We did use the gym in the Chi spa this time and that is pretty well equipped - it also has a pool at the top which is a nice sun trap - we were the only ones there which was great but it has sun beds for about 15-20 people maybe ??
The only thing we found annoying were the jetskis ( not run by the hotel ) that charge up and down most days and early evenings - they can be pretty loud and a bit irritating if you are trying to chill out.
All in all another very good holiday at the shangri La - see you soon for sure.

Room Tip: A higher floor is better for a sea view room - we were on floor 3 which was perfect

I was only able to stay here for one night, but I wanted to stay for a week. My room was huge and beautiful with a huge terrace that looked out upon the Grand Mosque across the waterway. Staff smile, greet you and open doors, and even offer you Arabic coffee upon entering the lobby.

I tried the buffet dinner on the lower level and enjoyed it very much.

Highly recommended.

Again, Shangri La hotel is a scoop. Best value for money. Early arrival no problem. Given room at 5am, any better? Nice people, choose /upgrade to Horizon Club. Better, more relaxed, quite and beatiful people. We will return!!

We stayed at the Shangri-la residences for over a year and loved it. We were treated superbly and felt we were totally 'at home'. We cannot praise the staff highly enough. They even found my medecines and expressed them to the airport when we had an emergency. The rooms were fine, the pools gorgeous and the walking just terrific. You couldn't stay anywhere better in Abu Dhabi.

We had the most amazing time at the Shangri La Abu Dhabi. It was my parnter's "21st" birthday so our first trip to the Middle East was one to celebrate in style - and we did! I cannot recommend or praise the hotel highly enough, it was fabulous. Everything from the room the service the food the pool the man cleaning your sunglasses whilst you laid on the very comfortable sun beds with a cocktail - we could fault nothing.

The restaurants were marvellous (a little pricey but the quality was exceptional). The members of staff remembered our names from the moment we arrived, everyone was so friendly, doors opened for you, nothing was too much trouble.

Special mention for Diba, she looked after our every need from the moment we arrived, including a birthday cake to the gift of the book, Lost Horizon, when we left. We will definitely return.

Well done Shangri La.

Room Tip: Up grade to a premier room with a view over the magnificent mosque - you will not be disappointed
