From start to finish, everything was wonderful! The rooms, the staff, the ambiance - a really lovely place to stay while in Abu Dhabi! We would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to escape for a few days and soak up the tranquillity of the place!

Room Tip: We were in the apartments and a note for anyone staying there - if you would like shampoo/conditione...

My husband surprised me for my birthday and our wedding anniversary by booking us into this beautiful hotel for 1 night. From the moment we set foot in the lobby we were amazed. The hotel itself is beautiful and elegant. The staff is friendly, efficient and professional! We were escorted to the Horizon Club Lounge, were we where checked into our room. Again the same effectiveness and professionalism applied. We were taken to our room and what a beautiful surprise awaited us. The bed was decorated with towels and rose petals. Same in the bathroom. It was such a romantic touch. My husband had further plans up his sleeve with an afternoon booked at Chi the Spa. This was amazing! Once again the staff is friendly and professional. The atmosphere in the spa is so relaxing and everything that you would come to expect from a spa. Our therapists truly made our treatments worth while. After, they gave me a small cake with a candle to wish me happy birthday. What a special touch! Dinner was at Sofra, buffet style, and the food was good. Only point that might be worth looking at, from hotel side, is to have name plates at the various dishes. We had no idea what we were dishing up. The view at night time is spectacular. We had breakfast the next morning at the Horizon Club Lounge and it was really good. Checking out was done in a few minutes. The only sad thing was to leave after only one nights stay...

We have just returned from a magical stay at this beautiful hotel. From the moment we arrived around 0530hrs in the morning all the hotel staff provided us with exceptional service in a pleasant and professional manner. The hotel more than lived up to our expectations during our 10 night stay. Thank you to all concerned.

Room Tip: We stayed on the fourth floor in a beautiful room which afforded us a lovely view of the Grand Mosqu...

Reviewing the room options at the Shangri-La I noted that the Residence offered much more living space for less money than a regular room in the main hotel.

it turns out that there are three choices at this resort; the Main Hotel, The Residence and Traders Hotel; all are operated by Shangri-La but each has a totally different feel. The main hotel is opulent; The residence offers up-market comfort; Traders is modernistic [ more characteristic of a city hotel] .

Stopping at the Residence was definitely more relaxed ; our room was 100square meters divided between a kitchen/lounge area and a spacious bedroom. The kitchen was well equipped to enable 'self catering' should you wish but with the multiple dining options of the Shangri-La and the on-site souk we dined out relentlessly; however a proper fridge was great for having drinks on site and we enjoyed popping to Starbucks for breakfast but eating it in the room.

Being a guest of any properties gave full access to all facilities [the restaurants , spa , gym, etc. ] , the only exception being the main pool - but with two others in The Residence who cares?

The dining options are mainly linked to the main building but with golf buggy or abra [ boat] transfers - or a 5 minute walk - all is accessible. Every meal was excellent. The buffet dining in the main restaurant is overwhelming and wonderful quality; Pearls and Caviar was sophisticated but still relaxed ; poolside dining was always good food and good value though occasionally slow.

Every experience was positive ; the staff were obliging and smiley; the gym and spa very well equipped; the beach perfectly groomed ; and the location convenient - away from the bustle of the city but , thanks to cheap taxi fares, still enabling easy and affordable access to downtown , the airport and the 'entertainment centre' Yas Island

So unless you feel the need to be at the heart of this delightful resort hotel - or I guess if you are staying just a couple of nights and don't want to invest time to explore the total resort - I would strongly recommend The Residence

Here at the moment.
Had to write a review whilst still here.
1st class throughout.
Trying to find a fault but it's not easy.
Just book It and enjoy the beautiful weather service and staff.
So much better than Dubai in my opinion.
Check out the Emirates Palace and nearby Mosque. Amazing
